I'd like to thank: Misha for the incredible experience; and Mat Armstrong for ripping the splitter off his Cayman so we had extra time for this lap. Gálffy-Tuning and Poll-Tom in Hungary for refreshing the car after the little crunch on the Hungaroring. And of course PEMAC Fahrzeugtechnik for the setup. Many shops have no idea how to set up a mixed-use car, but they do.
@@mgcharoudinhello Misha I’m a big fan of yours. Is there a way I can get a ride along with you, asking because I’m disabled and going to Nurburgring has always been a dream. I will be visiting Germany in September.
At least Mat Armstrong made it round the track , last time he broke his Audi in the states . 🙄😃. Didn’t know the wheelbase was 300mm shorter than an E46 , do s it turn in better or is it a bit twitchy a high speed ?
@@newagetemplar6100 the difference in wheelbase is 230mm and the total length is is actually more like 400 --- the whole car is more lively and it loves to hang its ass out... a bit too much actually :)
I have only the 2litre e85 z4 convertible and it still has plenty of go! They so light..& still comfortable for long drives with heated leather seats.. Great cars next is the 3 litre coupe z4
Was thinking exactly the same. I have a Z4M coupe and I’m sure that with KW V3s and upgraded brakes would be a stiff challenge for many more expensive and “fancier” cars. Hope Misha gets his hands on one
The z4 M coupe is 200lbs heavier in the front than this 3.0si coupe, making it much faster in a straight line, but the extra weight also makes it less nimble.
My track experience says you’re so so wrong. The weight difference is vanished by the different M suspension. Even with suspension upgrades on either, on most tracks the difference is 2-3 seconds average. So you stick with you base geometry on the 3.0 I’ll stick to my s55. All day any day
@@KeynSongwdym base geometry? The suspension geometry is the same. The M just has different tuning and maybe a few different components (apart from engine obviously)
They are amazing cars with great chassis balance and solid drivetrains. Surprisingly practical too! I did a road trip of 2000kms in my 3.0i and it never skipped a beat or felt claustrophobic. My dream is to own the M coupe eventually
@@kanaric I argue the only track mod you need for the Ring are proper uprated brakes and new fluid. You can have fun with a stock suspension but you'll burn up your stock brakes.
I’ve had my Z4M for almost two years and gearing up for a mountain run; an old boss I looked up to had the clownshoe M coupe which is how I was introduced to the platform. I test drove one that had some alpina wheels and this is the first time I’ve seen anyone have them on the Z4 chassis. This has reignited my desire to do the combo. Thanks for the Z4 love and inspo!! This car looks like almost nothing else on the road is so underrated.
I have a Z4M Roadster! Sorry I'm not in Germany. I drive Watkins Glen in upstate New York. I was supposed to take it easy this year but Misha is giving me bad ideas.
I've had a Z4 coupe, the challenges with these cars are most of the owners just seem to want to clean and polish them, and so finding and fitting track oriented parts is a struggle. I got some buckets in mine but not without a lot of fettling, almost nowhere to fit harnesses, no off the shelf half cages, etc etc. Otherwise it's a great and under-rated platform. N52 engines are great and take loads of abuse but this is widely known. I ended up switching to a 330i as although it was 100-200kg heavier, I could fit a full set of track tyres on the rear seats and a jack and tools in the boot.
I'll be treating myself soon to a Porsche 718 GT4... To sit right alongside my ALPINE WHITE/Red/Black/ Brushed Aluminum interior 2006 e86 Z4 3.0si Coupe in my Garage. I will NEVER make the same mistake of Selling her as I foolishly did when I sold my 1998 Z3 2.8 Coupe!!
There is an "si" missing in the title, the coupé was never built with the older 3.0 engine since it came out after the facelift/LCI of the E85 Z4 Roadster.
14:00 that BMW 540i G31 is meeee holy fuck, hope to meet you in April when I go again lol I'm wondering if there's any point asking if you want to drive it. It's just a stock touring with 333 PS, but Luxury Line instead of M Line for a change 🤪
Misha, I think in such videos, it's better to display the tachometer instead of the speedometer. Speed can be shown, for example, through GPS. It's just that the sensations of seeing how the engine operates at high revs convey adrenaline more strongly)))
Hey Misha, absolutely love your channel. I always recommend your channel to every car guy I know. Just asking, is there any way we could enjoy these videos in 60fps? I think it would be truly an experience to watch the rides in the buttery smooth framerate if possible.
Z4's are kind of a pain to drive with super firm suspension, and less than ideal driving position. I'm glad it held up so good on the track. I have an 06 3.0si alpine white with 80K miles. I used to drive it in college and it's been maybe 5 years since I've used it. I gotta get that thing back up and going again
I have always loved Z4's amazing lap thank you Misha!!! I hope your taking flying lessons because we all know your going to win the freedom 500 (as long as you get a good car) 😂😂🏁🏁
@@AI-Records24 One can hope! 😆 plus then Misha can just fly to the ring when someone has a car for him to drive he will never have to worry about the track closing anymore 🤣🤣 jk
@@big-R so with decent tyres on it, it doesn't really have the power (and the N52 isn't really tuneable) to need an LSD for traction in any road or track day environment - they also have a staggered setup as stock anyway and an extremely stiff chassis so breaking the rear isn't actually how these cars are set up, yes they will oversteer like any car will but it's all perfectly controllable without the diff. Sure if you wanted to drift one you'd need an LSD - but I've never seen one built specifically for drifting - people just use e46's instead because they are cheaper, longer wheelbase and then just weld the diff up.
Obviously depends just how hard you are driving it, but if you are running semi slicks, with the pressures set right, and you're *still* wheel spinning at corner exit, sure, props to you for being that committed in (probably) the rain - but in my experience the cars just have way more grip than power.
This'll probably will hurt the purists but would love to see some z4 from this gen swap with an m67 340hp diesel v8 with straight pipes and a zf8 gearbox 🤤
@mgchaurudin Misha you are invited to do the same in my M54 3.0i Z4 Roadster which will get 21 years old this year. There are also brakes mods from M240i, ST-XTA, LSD etc.
M135i Performance calipers + Z4M discs on the front, 5-Series discs with X3 calipers (essentially M3 just cheaper) in the back, Endless MA45B pads all around.
My modified Z4M "roadster" used to be my Nürburgring car before the M2 came....loved that car :) > ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-piOSgbM1G4E.html
You cannot compare the roadster with the coupe, the coupe is much stiffer and therefore drives much better. But good choice, I have had an E85 3.0IS for years. Open ride is so nice!
@@johanslecht2636 notes taken 📝 thx man. My first car was a 99 z4 2.8 which I loved! Can’t wait for another Z . All above a great platform and weekend warrior!
@@johanslecht2636"Much stiffer". Are you sure? For this model (E85/86) first has been developed the spider but with the cope in mind with the target to reinforce as less as possible the chassis. Bad experiences BMW had with Z3 experience, ruled...
