I can't believe I'm officially a Final Year medical student... it's wild! This video was filmed over my first week back to school. I started the year with 8 weeks of psych (divided up 4 weeks in hospital and 4 weeks in a community centre).
Overall I really enjoyed it but I really quickly knew it wasn't the speciality for me. In about the second week I was commenting to people I missed "touching" patients - which sounds really weird but hear me out. As a doctor (or med student) you're taught to use your questions to understand a patient and their symptoms and taught to use your hands and tools to physically connect to them and "find" those symptoms (and signs), and in psych there is A LOT of talking and connection but there isn't much physical skill... and I just missed that. HUGE respect for psychiatrists and psychologists, I definitely tried to learn as much as I could while I was there... but I just don't think I'll be a psych in the future. 💜.

Buy me a coffee at ko-fi.com/emmabmd
Just trying out a new feature - by no means is this meant to pressure anyone, I'm just a med student who spends way too much on coffee!
