I'm of course kidding!
It's now been almost 2 weeks of being an "independent" junior doctor. I now have a bed, a full fridge, and internet! I still don't have a couch but we're getting there.
I've made friends with some of the interns, I got my first pay check and immediately bought a med student coffee! I survived my first evening shift and my first weekend on. A lot has happened - that you'll see soon.
Orientation week(s) was harder than I thought it would be... yes there was a lot of sitting around and just listening, there were modules (some which I still have to do)... but there was also the acute awareness of doing this "alone". Of course I'm not actually alone but I am away from all of my friends that I had grown so used to doing orientation with through medical school. It really kind of emphasised the differences we were all experiencing and the distance.
Now I'm busy enough day to day I don't really notice it. But those two weeks without my own roof over my head, with no pillow, and not being able to cook at home... they were tough.
I am so grateful for the way the community here takes people under their wing. More than once strangers helped us move things, and I don't mean holding a door for us I mean hauling boxes. New interns offered me a couch or a bed to stay on, and many many rides. So even when I was missing my found family, I knew I was going to be held tightly here.
Anyway now a couple weeks in I'm starting to understand the ins and outs of this hospital, the tricks of surgical patients, and the "art" if you will of being a junior doctor. I'm still slow and have a lot to learn but I'm feeling alright!
