Go to icarvum.com/ for more information on Lona and her wood carvings.
Lona has lived her entire life on the banks of the Snake River in Southern Idaho, where she spent the greater part of her life on, or under water. She is primarily self taught and because of her inquisitive nature, she has experimented with many different media to incorporate in the process of her woodcarving.
Not only has she done most of her research and studies independently but has worked with such artists as friend and mentor, Floyd Scholz who is universally recognized as the most famous raptor carver in the world.
Throughout her career, Lona has received many awards, both nationally and in the Ward World Championship. She`s been carving professionally for 15 years now, and is represented in private collections as well as national museums and galleries throughout the U.S. and Canada, including The Kneeland Gallery of Sun Valley, Idaho; Horizon Gallery of Jackson, Wyoming; The Mountain Art Gathering in Keystone, Colorado; The National Hummingbird Society in Sedona, Arizona; the Bronx Zoo in New York; and The University of Tulsa Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

I went to school with Lona....she was my best friend back then, but I was from SD, so after graduating I never saw or spoke to her again! I just found out today that she passed...I find myself sad, even tho it's been over 40 years since I last spent time with her! She would have me draw a line....and she would make some really good artsy thing with it...she was amazing from way back!

I 1st heard about her when I was taking my 1st seminar with Floyd Scholz in 2012. She had even then left a great wake behind her in her loss. What an abject and senseless tragedy. I found your video a few years ago and periodically I still pull it up to become immersed in several moments of inspiration and artistry. I find that I actually learn while watching and listening to her. It's a great production and a great memorial to her, too. Thank you, and thanks to Lona.

the detail and accuracy are astounding. When one human witnesses another doing such work they are at once inspired and humbled.

I miss her very much as well, and am absolutely broken over this tragedy. Her spirit is emanated in these carvings. I also lover her, beyond measure.

Stumbled upon pictures of your work today. Decided to google you. I had no idea you had left us. A brilliant light, taken from the earth too soon. I'm just...

And I thought I was the only one that got out the snorkeling gear and spent hours watching Bluegill in the creek as I did my impression of a prune :-) More informational videos, please.

She is my great aunt. She got hit by a car while riding her bike. This was in 2011.

Not impressed by process. You keep frozen birds? It's funny that you mention not using an actual pinecone because you feel that it's plagiarism, when all your doing is copying. Power carving is bullshit too...
