In this video, I am going to learn about a project taking place at Lower Kananaskis Lake, which is considered one of the few successful stories of bull trout recovery in Alberta. In the early 1990s, the bull trout population had dropped to just 60 fish. After making changes to sportfishing regulations and reducing fishing efforts, the population started to recover significantly, the last survey recorded over 1,000 Bull trout. Now, biologists are working on an instream incubation program to pilot a new stocking technique for Bull Trout in Alberta. If successful, this technique could be used to help reintroduce bull trout to areas where they have been extirpated.
