Tournament fishing has ruined what used to be decent fishing in most lakes.

Such anger and stress I believe these men missed the point of fishing. Sheesh.

Personally I cant stand "Pro" anglers. Fighting, speeding, crowding lakes, ruin fishing for regular people who enjoy a relaxing day. Turn everything into competition.

Lol in Canada we run aluminium boats and solve our issues by ramming each other until one sinks.

This happened to me the other day. I was in an established spot and had been casting for a bout 1hr, then my brother came up right behind me and threatened to use his fillet knife to stab me if I didn't move. I was about to pull out my concealed handgun glock 19 until my mother came in and unplugged my Ps3 because I didn't clean up my room

I've fished for over 50 years now I can tell you there's good and bad in both "camps ". I fished tournaments for 2 years. Never had any problems with " locals" .Fished recreationally and to get fish to eat , and have had no problems with " professionals ". I have had more problems with homeowners along waterways than anyone else. Telling you not to fish there like they own the water or something. So, moral of the story : Bad and good in every group. Just treat others like you would want them to treat you. This works MOST of the time.

Unwritten rule of prefishing is stupid. Oh I've casted here before its off limits to you. In fact I've casted almost everywhere in this lake so you might as well go home and not fish the tourney because I've already claimed the good spots and ill cry about it if you fish a few feet away.

I love how Greg was just a shitposter four or five years ago and now he makes the best, most straightforward fishing content on this website.

All the arguments are basically "its my spot" and "I was here yesterday so it belongs to me "

WOW.. I guess I didn't know the etiquette rules at all. This whole idea of calling a spot for an indefinite amount of time simply because that's where you want to fish, and everyone else is supposed to leave and let you have your way, that seems to be the standard. I always thought it was first come, first serve, and if you wanted to fish near someone you should ask permission first. But I guess the sport has changed.

I can't remember who once said, "I am not against tournament fishing for what it does to the fish.....but what it does to the fisherman." As a very successful angler I have been hounded for years to tournament fish. I have fished 4 tournaments in my life and found all four to be a miserable experience even though placing 2nd in all 4. I go fishing to relax, take in the beauty, the wildlife and enjoy the friendship of those I take with me. The competitiveness came first.....then the tournaments. The competitive fisherman is a tool of the industry.....but I digress, If they are willing to trade it all for dollars that is their prerogative and I assume they enjoy it.

Where are the fights??!! All I see is spoiled brats in a preschool classroom arguing over who had the Lincoln logs first.

I dont mind if they do that. I just go in behind them and catch what they missed. That usually pisses them off.

I like watching tournaments for these reason...the meltdowns. These are salesmen who compete to win the next trophy they can put on their shelf and acquire more sponsors...Have you heard them pitch a sale? "these lures are the best" and fish holds on to them longer"...

If I'm fishing on a lake, and there is a tourney going on, whether is just a local tourney or a league tourney, and some dude tells me he pre-fished that area, I'll move for him. It's not a big deal. Now, if this same dude starts telling me I NEED to move, or become rude, I'll keep my ass right where I am, or I'll drag motor all over that area...

The funny thing is that bayou is one of the most contaminated waterways in Calcasieu Parish. And is nowhere near Sabine River.

You absolutely have to do a bass fishing video where you go to private ponds and wear a shirt saying "I am deaf so please use sign language" and watch them go nuts trying to kick you out while you keep pointing to the shirt. Some will finally get pissed and write down on paper telling you to leave. That's when you pull up the top shirt and show the second shirt saying "Sorry, I cant read either!" I promise it will go viral if you do this prank.

I don't get why people get so protective over where you started the tournament. Great anglers make adjustments and change their gameplan throughout the tournament.

I can only afford to fish from the shore , I accidently casted the front end of my pole into the water, left it there while a boat passed, nodded at the boat and never complained once. Just laughed at myself as I reeled in the front half of my pole lol.

I can understand why someone would get upset if someone else who hasn’t fished an area the whole tournament suddenly takes ur spot but isn’t that just adapting to what works, swallowing your pride and taking “advice” or using knowledge to your benefit..?

It seems EVERY TIME I've ever heard a tournament angler say, "It's an unwritten rule..." it was when THAT angler was looking to screw someone else so THEY could win. If you want all those "Unwritten" rules to be followed then make them WRITTEN rules. If you can't convince the people running the tournament that YOUR unwritten rule is a good one, one they make part of their rules, then maybe it wasn't a good "Unwritten" rule to begin with. That's like telling a NASCAR driver that, "I was leading after the first 400 miles of a 500 mile race so the other drivers need to stay behind me and out of my way so I can win." First to the spot gets the spot and a spot is ONLY 50 yards on either side of you. If you need special unwritten rules to win then you aren't that good to begin with and don't deserve to win. You may have gotten to the spot first on the first day because of luck of the boat draw, or you could afford a faster boat. I NEVER hear any of the pros say, "I see you got a bad draw, near the last to leave, let's switch draw places." I NEVER hear pros say the fastest boats should leave last and the slower boats should leave first, that would make things fairer then they are now. YOU only care about what's fair when it's to YOUR advantage. Maybe if YOU weren't such an A$$HOLE and agreed to share the spot with him the 1st or previous days he would have been willing to share the spot with you that last day. If someone saw you catching fish and asked to share your spot what would YOU say? Would you say NO, I was here first?

Why are they acting like you have to claim spots early in the tournament? Is that part of the rules? I thought you could fish anywhere so long as you aren’t sabotaging someone.

Professional bass fishing is the worst thing next to jet skis to ever happen to our lakes and rivers. I've been fishing on the shoreline and these professional bass fisherman fishing tournaments will literally throw right over you . It's like during tournament time they think they own the damn lake.
