They are always big ones with you 🎉 love it. Hearing that drag scream makes me smile. I don't think I've ever seen you lose a fish but that shows how difficult the tarpon are with those bony mouths!
Thank you very much for watching and yes they are very hard to hook and keep hooked! At the end of every season if I've got an above 50% hook up to land ratio I'm happy!
Fish #1... See ya later alligator! Fish #2.... EPIC run!! What a beast. Fish #3... Stubborn "little" fella! Wow... that water looked so calm for a change.
Man, when I was a teenager my parents took me to Key West and I brought my medium action Walmart rod and a Quantum Snapshot reel with 12 lb mono on it to catch snapper and some smaller jacks...I was pulling in red snapper one after another off the boardwalk, until I hooked into a 4' tarpon...lol He spooled me in a matter of seconds, ripped the knot right off the spool too...😂😂😂 A charter boat captain and his first mate were sitting on their boat drinking beer and watching me. He yells, "you're doing great, want a job!?"
Is there any other way to handle a big tarpon? I'm pretty sure that I'm not bug enough or strong enough to do what you do. I wouldn't want use a gaff, even it's legal.
Not really. What you could do is start working out in the gym for a couple of months before tarpon season. This is what a lot of serious tarpon fishermen do! As for me I work out year round! Cardio is important also!
