The desert in the middle of the driest continent on earth and Fishing...the two don't exactly go hand in hand, but thanks to record rains this crazy idea just might have some merit. Join Rob on a wild goose chase with a purpose as he tracks down some local characters who just might help him track down some fish...
Along the way, Rob engages the help of publicans, farmers, jackaroos, pilots, cops and other colourful locals, visits Lake Eyre, Cooper Creek, the largest cattle station in the world...and the smallest town in Australia - permanent population of 3...and a dog.

yellas will absorb their egg sack in tough times to ensure their survival. and will spawn later on when conditions are better making them surprisingly tough species. this is also why they don't have a closed season as its too hard to determine when they will actually spawn. so as long as there is a perminent body of water like this there is a good chance you can find yellas.

Beautiful fish , great eating , similar to redfin which is also a perch or part of that family of fish. Shame they are not as plentiful in our waters as they used to be, not since the dreaded carp seemed to take over our waterways.

Very interesting, we don’t have these fish species in the US but these kinda look like a mix between our large mouth bass and our crappie

I am Australian also, but it's just crazy to imagine how desolate most of our country is inland, it makes you wonder if we could somehow with technology create at least flourishing pockets out there, because just seeing all that land as just sand, it kind of feels like wasted opportunity, especially when you consider some small island countries would love to have just a little more land.
@doriankeating1963
@doriankeating1963 7 месяцев назад
I agree and was thinking the same thing, it would not be that hard to redirect some of our wasted waterway run offs inland , its ridiculous that it hasn't been done or the other alternative is to pump it inland, before the yanks destroyed the great water project that gadaffi completed that was bringing water to the whole of all the desert and surrounding dry countries , it would then precipitate and form rain clouds and start the greening process of our wasted inland.

on a handline it seems more sporting,,,but that's just my opinion( i like both, rod and reel or hand line)lol....

i agree man
@fuerstmetternich5935
@fuerstmetternich5935 10 лет назад
funny when i think about it, when i was a small kid, i saw two Turkish guys fishing with light hand lines with a small feather attached as a strike indicator and natural bait and they filled a whole keeper net, while other people with expensive fishing gear were just wetting their hooks...i guess that got me interested, LOL !!
10 лет назад
same here man, i have seen the exact same thing happen, these guys went fishing in a kayak with all the top of the line gear and lures and didn't catch a thing, and some little indigeonous kid and his brother were pulling up yellowbelly and cod frequently with just a handline and bait
@fuerstmetternich5935
@fuerstmetternich5935 10 лет назад
yes...a black fellow who owned a bait shop told me that too...the less crap you got between your bait and you, the less can go wrong...and he meant any kind of fishing in general, whether rod and reel or hand line.....
