Selecting the right fishing lure can be tricky and sometimes over hyped marketing is misleading. Here is a quick rundown on my evaluation of the swig jig vs. the Chatterbait.

Thanks for the video man. I fish chatterbaits a ton, love them, but have not figured out jigs yet. I feel like a lot of the bite from the jig is due to the trailer, so I guess I have not realized what the benefit of them is over a chatterbait. I’d like to figure them out soon!

I wanted to get a lure to fish in my local pond that has really stained water. The fish are typically small (like around a pound) but there are a few in there that push 5 pounds. The pond also has a tough bite. Should I get a chatterbait or swim jig? I’m on a budget so I only want to get one. Also, Any suggestions for colors, size, and trailers?

Go with 10-12” worms or 7” lizards as well. A chatterbait will work but in a small body of water you can educate the fish in there pretty quick.

I have a question for you I fish from the bank I love the swim jig but for some reason, I can not get confidence in a chatter bait I have tried the jackhammer thunder cricket I have even gone out on days and just thrown the chatter bait it is just not getting bites for me I watch videos on how other people are fishing it I have even called up some of my buddies I just don't know what else to do to catch fish on this thing

I know this question wasn’t directed towards me. But I absolutely love the chatterbait. I’ve been using jackhammers recently but I used the original chatterbaits at first too. All white has been the color this year, in 3/8 oz, Florida bass love it. It’s what I’ve been throwing for literally most of my fishing trips. My guess would be that maybe if you don’t live in florida, then the fish won’t be super aggressive. Because the chatterbait has lots of flash and vibration, only active fish that want that commotion will bite the chatterbait. Or if you’re fishing really see through water or more lethargic fish, especially up north, more than likely they’ll ignore the chatterbait. Also maybe it’s the color/ or retrieval speed you’re using the chatterbait. Sometimes fish will be very picky with colors, but I usually use green pumpkin or all white and always manage to get bites with either. And maybe you’re reeling it in too fast for them to bite or too slow for them to get a reaction strike. I honestly love burning chatterbaits, it’s how I catch most of them. Personally your scenario is the opposite for me, my confidence bait is the chatterbait but I want to get into swim jigs more. Hope this somewhat helped man!

Good video Chad I love the chatterbait. Havent had as much success with the swim jig vs the chatterbait even though they are similar. Maybe I will try it some more in clearer conditions.

Hey Chad: Thanks!! Your explanation makes chatterbaits the BEST choice for me. Would there be any advantage to 4" Yamamoto Zakos on the back? * I have successfully used 3.8" paddletail swimbaits by themselves all season as my go-to search baits. But there are days when the water visibility is less than a foot and I can "search" for hours without a bite. I will instead be putting them on the back of chatterbaits next year for sure!

Here's my opinion, hope it helps: Scenario: Mid Summer, normal day, water is 4-6' vis. fish are feeding on shad or baitfish I like to start in the morning with a Buzzbait. Once the sun starts coming up, I switch to a chatterbait or spinnerbait, depends on if im fishing wood or grass. grass use chatterbait, wood use spinnerbait. Once it gets even brighter, say the morning bite has died off, switch to a swim jig, then throw a keitech, or alternate between the two.

Hi Chad - Great video as always. Do you ever use single tail grubs as trailers for your swim jigs? I’m in New England and I’ve head that grubs can be pretty effective the farther north you are.

I used a single tail grub for the first ever yesterday. Put it on the back of my swim jig and hooked a 2lber in no time. I'm in NJ so I'm not as far north but judging by the action of the grub, I'd say it would work anywhere a bass is.
