Not wrong about the old TLDs. I’ve got 4 of them for different applications. Cheap and bullet proof. Nice video mate. Harmer and Greeny say hi.

Yes mate - love the TLDs. I've got a couple of the 15s and the drags are still perfect decades later. Say hi to the lads for me

What an informative video Rob! Thank you. But I have a question regarding the mono used on the Saragosa 10000k. How much 10kg mono (Ande Pink) were you able to fit on the Saragosa? If the tuna decided to go for one of those long runs, would there be sufficient line to handle it comparative to the TLD20 with 10kg mono. Cheers
@robtaylorshotwater
@robtaylorshotwater 2 года назад
Thanks very much for watching mate. You can squeeze around 270 metres of 10kg mono onto a 10000 which is usually enough 10kg to pull up most longtails. If you’re chasing yellowfin then definitely go TLD or bigger.

Hey Rob. Love your videos mate. I've been trying to catch bluefin for years and haven't had much luck off the rocks but I'll keep trying. Getting even a run or hook up is rare for me unfortunately... LOL, and looking at your video it's probably because of shit drifts I get from going too heavy. Makes sense to go as light as possible with terminal tackle. Do you find you get line twist without the use of a swivel? Some live baits like yakkas go around in circles and i find I get line twist so I I've always used a swivel to connect the leader to the main line. I'll be keen to try your rig out. Thanks mate

@robtaylorshotwater Год назад
Hi Mal - yes mate, getting good drifts is the key. Try to use backwashes and line belly when getting a drift. I don’t use swivels as it’s more knots which means more weak points. Try maybe going a bit lighter on your leader? And pin the yakkas right in the shoulders to keep them from circling. Good luck mate. Just put the time in and you’ll bag one.

@Rob Taylor’s Hot Water hey Rob. Thank you for your reply. You are ab gentleman. I am definitely going too heavy. Ive been using100lb leader. After watching your video I'm preparing a lighter rig. Better to hook a fish on lighter tackle and risk losing it than fish heavy and never hook one. All the very the best

Hey Rob, how do you cast/lobyour float rigs with such a short overhead rod?
@robtaylorshotwater
@robtaylorshotwater 11 дней назад
Hey mate - it’s really just a lob cast out on top of a good size wave at the right time so when the water runs out it takes the balloon with it. It’s one of the disadvantages of a short rod but the pay off is fighting the fish
@AlejandroCello
@AlejandroCello 11 дней назад
@@robtaylorshotwater thanks Rob, how do you prevent tangling without a swivel?
@robtaylorshotwater
@robtaylorshotwater 10 дней назад
@@AlejandroCello mate I’m only running about 4 feet between the hook and balloon. So not really enough line to tangle and most livies will swim straight once they settle after casting. Longtails are usually always in the top couple of metres of water so there’s no need to fish baits too deep.

@@robtaylorshotwater Hi Rob, good mate, ended up with a 50cm trevally on Wednesday and a small dogtooth tuna this morning. The GT was good eating size, but I gotta try and empty my freezer of fish before the mahi arrive, so it was the GTs lucky day. The doggy - he wasn't so lucky! Looking forward to your next vid.

@robtaylorshotwater 3 года назад
@@owenphillips9166 Ha! Yes mate - can't eat a GT over a mahi mahi. That's still a fish I'm yet to catch - a dogtooth.

Hi rob is a mono top shot needed for longtail tuna fishing in the nsw central cost, because I’m planning to get 300m of 30lb on my talica with 200m of 15kg mono on my talica 16 or should I just get 700m of 30lb braid, which one would be better
@robtaylorshotwater
@robtaylorshotwater 2 месяца назад
Hey mate - I’d go with the 300m of 30 for off the rocks down that way.
@intensehotdog

What length are these rods? Around 5"5?
@robtaylorshotwater
@robtaylorshotwater Год назад
Yes mate - most of the rods are under 6 foot. I've got a longer one if the swell is dodgy but I keep most of them pretty short.
