Fishing the Bristol Avon at Saltford - Part 1 - A New Swim
Part 1 of renewed winter efforts to explore the fishing on my local river. My efforts to fish last winter revealed where I could consistently find bream, roach and pike, but my desire to find some bigger chub and one of the elusive barbel went unfilled. In this series, I move up river on the same stretch to explore new swims and pursue these bigger fish. I take a much heavier approach to tackle that becomes a theme throughout the series.

Really enjoyed the video, and yes, good to see the eel. I expect there's some biguns in there. Good luck with the chub hunting.

Thanks Joe. Nice to hear from you and all good thanks. Things have been full on and hectic this spring and summer though, so I’ve not had time to fish much. Enjoying exploring my local river and I’ll be following this up with vids for each session. Still got the eel slime on my coat

I think you got some coat on your eel slime 😂 do you pike fish this stretch? Carp and barbel are few and far between along here no? Roll on!

@@Joecoleman84 there seems to be plenty of barbel on other stretches downstream but I prefer the mystery, challenge and peacefulness of less fished spots. Especially when they’re closer to home.

I really enjoy your videos. I was brought up in Hanham and spent most of my younger days fishing the Avon between the Cottages and Keynsham as well as Claverton and Bradford. I always remember massive dace and roach but could never catch a Barbel. Eels were always plentiful though! I have moved away from the area now but your videos always make me want to come back to try some of the old swims. Thanks for uploading.

Comments like this make such a big difference, so thank you. Downstream of Keynsham, the barbel anglers are enjoying a bit of a renaissance, so never too late! Loads of roach in Saltford but I’ve yet to find the big ones. The number of dace in the chew, in keynsham memorial park is amazing.
