I just put the finishing touches on my go fishing bike and saw this little rod. Since I'll mostly be passing smaller streams I up and bought one. Yeah I know it won't be here anytime soon but I do like ultralight tackle so this will fit right in. Now I just need to learn how to cast it.

Glad you like the rod, Tristen. I’m 78 and can’t hike or wade streams anymore, but I can still ride a bike. I ordered this rod for bike-fishing some of my local parks for bluegill and bass; it should be perfect for that and very easy to pack. Beautiful meadow creek you’re fishing there; it doesn’t get much better than that. 👍

God I’m so glad you’re back and uploading Tristan, even if it’s only every other Saturday, so you probably won’t see this comment but I live in Nevada and I’ve already caught Lahontan cuts and next week I’m going to Great Basin to try for bonnevilles. I know you’ve fished Great Basin before and was wondering if you had a tip for which flies to use in that environment

The fish in creeks like this doesn't use to be so picky, stealth is key though so get in your ghillie suit 🤭 I'm soon up to successfully fished 20 different creeks with brook trout/brownies or grayling. I think the most fun with this kind of fishing is to explore new creeks😀
@HardRoad2Travel
@HardRoad2Travel 9 месяцев назад
I know this is coming late, but I'll second the stealth requirement. As well, the little creek I was fishing was so tight and overgrown, I was dapping with just the top two sections of a 10' 3wt. Crawling on my knees as sneaky as can be. True sight and stalk trout hunting.

Welcome back. I went fishing with my son and grandsons a few weeks back. Thanks to Tenkara, for the past few years I'd been neglecting my reel skills so I grabbed the old 5 weight. I found an ideal spot to cast, moved into position and then immediately lost my balance on some rolling rocks and started back-pedaling. Without a rear view mirror or any prior planning, my backside landed on the only round, sitting sized rock around. While I tried to regain my wits, give thanks for the ideal boulder placement and straighten out the sling pack, I tossed out the fly to get it out of my way and, Fish On! Only fish of the day, for any of us. It was an 8" cut, but after watching your video, I don't feel so bad about size. I'm glad I ignored my son's advice to use a parachute Adams on and tied on a Kebari fly instead. It had similar color to the parachute Adams with the addition of red at the head. That, plus the reverse hackle might be the secret sauce.

I've caught hundreds of sunfish and other species in the past couple months and it's been a blast. You're review of the Aventik rod turned the corner for me. Thanks again.

I bought the tenkara rod as a portable ham radio antenna support. Now I am hung on watching tenkara fishing videos! Amazing the parallels between trying to catch fish and using low power morse code radio to try make contacts on-the-air. Both require strategy, technique, and patience. Might have to try this fishing thing when the amateur radio contacts aren’t biting 😂

Oh my gosh I thought I recognized that spot, it's incredibly similar to a place I elk hunt. But the water is flowing the wrong way, lol. Anyway the place I'm thinking of I've seen multiple 10-12" brookies just completely stranded in pools in these micro streams. I pinky promised myself that I wouldn't go back without a rod.

Tristan, I’m so glad you’re back! You’ve been missed. Question: Do you have any ideas to increase the visibility of the sighter/line for the camera? I’m really wanting to see what YOU see for strike detection. It’s really hard if not mostly impossible to see the minute line ‘tells’ that a fish has the fly on your uploads. Thanks

Figured you wouold be doing a review...I busted a little toe and slowed me from Retirement speed to "I hope blood doesnt pool in my ass and starve my brain of O2.." condition. ..and we know one never busts a toe once and recovers. Oh no. Course not. Good news is waders, boots, fly rod and tenkera rod has been replaced. I think that might have been a signal to the Fish Gods to attack my toe. I dunno. coincidence?? mmm... You had a great day OTW...seriously envious.

When it’s windy, I tie a strike indicator. I know it is cheating, but it works even on a Tenkara rod. I’ve been fighting 20 to 35 mph wind gust while fishing a 3 foot wide creek in Colorado for the last 3 weeks. Tough conditions but I’m seeing success with a Tenkara rod.
