It's so relaxing to watch your videos. I actually got my father out today and taught him how to cast on my rod. When he was a kid, he made some small wooden ladybugs, but never got to fish with them, so that's what we spend the day doing. We only caught one trout and one shiner, but it was still a great day!

I think this aspect of your videos is a real strength - really adds to the realism, but also helps everyone watching to continue fishing and learning with patience. Everyone on occasion falls, loses fish, gets stuck in the trees, etc. - it's important to accept these little bumps and move on calmly, which you model very well :)

I purchased my first tenkara rod a month ago but haven’t had time to travel to the places I intended to use it in northern Arizona (I’m in Phoenix). I was at Bartlett lake today and the bass weren’t really biting but I made my way around to a cove that had a ton of structure and looked like a prime bluegill bed so I ran back to the car and got my rod. It felt so good to finally find out what a bite feels like on one of these rods. Caught 20+ little bluegill in an hour. Those hungry little guys will bite anything but still had fun. BTW my first rod is a Tenkara USA Iwana. Maybe a bit pricy for a starter but it seemed to suit all the ways I intend to use it.

The smaller 9’ rod by the same name as your 11’ you started out with is ideal for the small tight waters you fish. I call it the “Magic Wand” you will regret not getting it long ago! Get it. Will become your favorite go to rod, and fish waters to suit that rod instead of a rod to suit the waters. Cheers, enjoy your new magic wand. Kurenai HM30R 9’7”

Losing a fly gives the fish, and the fisherman, time to bleed off adrenaline and reset so not all bad. I have the Sato (10'8", 11'10", 12'9"). It appears the Rhodo (8'10", 9'9", 10'6") would be the perfect compliment.

The Suntech HM33R is the first tenkara rod I bought and my go to. Granted I only have two, one for me and one for the wife. But I love that rod, it’s completely changed the game for me coming from western fly fishing. I’ve caught up to 20” browns and cutty’s on it. I’ve had to shorten the leader a bit for right quarters, but it works well. Definitely give it another try.

I used to kind of hate the idea of zoom rods before I got the Dragontail FoxFIRE and started using it more. It's so powerful being able to collapse it down to 6 feet when needed, then extend it all the way up to 9 feet if it's possible. Those were some beautiful cutthroat!

Another great video. One thing, you mentioned that the 2nd rod your using is the Tenkara USA Rhodo. Are you sure it's not the Sato? The Rhodo has green accents (the Rhodo happens to be my go to favorite rod). The Sato has the red accents. It doesn't really matter. I have both and they each are great rods. I'm a big Tenkara USA fan.

Bought my first tenkara rod a little while ago after following your channel and I'm in love with it! Got a question hoping you or others can weigh in on - I got the Dragontail Foxfire and love how it feels with tiny brookies yet can also handle quite large stocked rainbows/browns. Obviously though, accidentally hooking into a monster triploid is not what that rod is meant for and I lost the biggest fish of my life. What's your favorite rod that has a bit more backbone if needed, but isn't overkill for the average 13"-18" fish? Zoom rod preferably. Thank you for the awesome weekly videos!!

Just got into tenkara and am doing really well... About 200 so far on my tenkara USA iwana. My only issue is that I once got snagged on a rock and didn't know what to do since I didn't have enough slack to grab the line and snap it (just waded in to get it but I won't always have that option) how should I go about that in the future?
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 2 года назад
You've got to pull the line to snap off the fly one way or another if there's no other way to free your line. Ideally you can reach the line and pull it. If not, you can orient your rod in line with the line (i.e., straight) and pull on the rod. You should eventually be able to grab the line. Either that or the rod tippet will break before you get to the line. I've never encountered an issue where either one of those didn't work.
