Man you was burning that thing. Need to slow that retrieve way down and let that roll right along the bottom. Ive also had success using a retrieve where I reel slowly then pull back slightly with rod then pause for second and let it fall then reel slowly then pull back then let it fall gives it more of an erratic up and down combine with varying levels of speed and also covers a little more of the water column. Another tip put a small dab of super glue on the hook keeper before you slide your soft plastic all the way up and it will keep your bait from sliding down on hard casts or when fish hit. I like the loctite gel super glue for this and you only need a little drop it will make your plastic last longer too because it won't get torn from sliding up and down the hook shank. Ive been using underspins for a couple of decades and it all started will the originator the Blakemore roadrunner bucktail which is a killer lure that catches just about anything that swims.

try an in-line spinner for the heck of it some day.

I normally always have an underspin tied on. You really need to fish them more often, especially this time of year. I’ve stuck so many giants on a little underspin. Not to mention giant smallies too.
