Zoro isn't actually racist, he just is smart enough to be aware that black people are just generally stronger and faster cause of their heritage so he enjoys fighting them to challenge himself
The funniest thing about hordey is that he actually thought he was strong enough to conquer the surface. He was actually going to attack reverie. Dude really had no idea what was waiting for him.
To be fair, no one else has any idea whats waiting for them either. It took everything the Marines had to take one fleet. Based on that showing it might have been doable. If that was truly all they had…
@@mrbubbles6468, being the Pirate King means that you have to take down all of the Yonko, and since Hordy Jones couldn’t even take down Luffy before he became a Yonko; it’s very obvious that Hordy Jones plan was a failure from the start.
And Arlong thought all he needed was sea charts. Those two don't realize that to beat humanity, they have to deal with Aokiji, Kizaru, Fujitora, Greenbull, Akainu, Sengoku, Garp, Mihawk, Shanks, Big Mom, Kaido, Blackbeard, Rayleigh, etc. Any one of those people could solo literally every fishman in the One Piece universe, and only Jimbei would give them any degree of difficulty.
@@kaijuge6934 You may be forgetting that Jack from Kaido's crew is also a fishman, also Namur one of Whitebeard's commanders. While we have little scale on either of their total capabilities we can assume they would be comparable to Jimbei based on their status. Not saying they could win against any of those characters, just that they could probably put up about as much of a fight as Jimbei.
In theory (!!!) they could sneak-attack any ship. Who and how is a crew able to defend from attacks that come from the deep sea directly below them? btw. I am still waiting for the day that DF users actually drown ... it makes zero sense that Luffy + BigMom somehow dropped into the sea/top lake in Wano and survived by being washed ashore
So true, but it's clear he was prepared for it, good setup, good microphone, pumping out tons of content, this man has been ready to explode for a while
Luffy isn’t a buccaneer Pirate the pirates most people assume all pirates to being, but he’s a peace main pirate which is a pirate 🏴☠️ that just wants voyage the world without any government involvement whatsoever.
@@RoronoaZoro-ur6hrhe’s really more of a mix of both. Luffy wants to be bothered by the marines, he wants bounty hunters to come after them, and he wants to be in danger. He is truly the most batshit insane person in the one piece world, and very few people know how truly dangerous this man is
@@TheThugnificantbut every person always underestimates him or they’re super arrogant (or both) until they hear his bounty (and usually even after that) like Caesar
My favorite Luffy moment from this arc was him telling Jimbei how he doesn't want to be a hero, that heroes share their meat, and that is one of the last things Luffy wants to do, and then we hear Zoro say the exact same thing but with his booze. I love them.
@@GSSAGE7not really, they have big parties but they are usually very selfish in how they party. Luffy and Zoro are usually hoarding all the meat and booze, Usopp trying get all the attention at the party, Nami trying to steal everyone’s money, etc. They aren’t really sharing much less just having fun with everyone.
I actually like Hody as a villain. Not for him himself, but for what he represents. That scene where the prince asks him what humans have done to him to make him hate them so much, and he just honestly answers "nothing," it's a scene that gives me chills every time I think about it, and I feel it's seriously underappreciated in the community.
@@stoplookingatmyname8200nah, I think that was pretty real. Lots of racist people I’ve met either had only 1 or even no accident/situation with the people they discriminate against. Maybe they read something, or were told stories. But if pressed, what group X has done to them, they either can’t name something or it’s really far fetched (like „they took our jobs!!…and I can’t get one!“) Hatred and bigotry do not need a reason to exist, people sometimes just *are* that bad without reason. It does make Hordy look stupid and superficial, but what do you expect from someone who has stayed, relatively speaking, inside a small bubble and didn’t venture out in the world? Hordy was taught a specific mindset, and he only ever met people crossing through fishman island. He’s like the „racist hillbilly“ meme, just in merman form.
Ive been watching OP for the first time, and just made it through this arc. Hody Jones. One Dimensional as a character, but a very *real* and believable character. That kind of bigotry and hatred exists in real people, which is why a character like Hody is kinda scary. Not for his strength/power, but for the ability he had to spread his hatred within the Fishmen of the Fishman district. This arc is actually one of my favorites
Goofy's version of Jinbe bribing Luffy with meat is great because it's literally just exactly what happened with zero embellishment. There's no way to frame that to make it funnier than it already is.
In Defense of a crackhead, said Yonko only cared about the tribute, not the whole island. She snatched it after whitebeard‘s death to secure special candy. Where was big mom, when hordi came knockin‘? Honestly? Most likely having another hunger pang 😂
@@TheGosgosh Well, yeah, but the entire protection deal isn't a "If you're being attacked we'll come to your rescue"-thing but more of a "If you're being attacked, we'll go after those people and end them, so no one will dare attack you in the first place"-thing. This really makes Hordi Jones' plan even dumber, because if it weren't for Luffy preventing his dumb as fuck coup, he would've been murdered by Cracker or someone a week later anyway.
@@SCPInsaniaEven funnier is if somehow Hoady and crew won after using all those drugs they would be so old that any citizen of Fishmen Island could curb stomp all of them.
You missed the most important part with Van der Decken. He “fell in love” with Shirahoshi when she was a 6-year old child and is now a 16-year old teenager. This fishface is a certified child connoisseur…
He didn't even fall in love, he just saw her summoning the sea kings and thought "i want it" and then tried to marry and kill a actual infant for a decade straight
As a villain, Hordie Jones is about as bad as it gets it OP. However thematically, he is one of the most poignant and real life villains of the entire run. I said what I said
I honestly think he works. sure he's not as cool as crocodile or near as popular as the villains before, but he works with the story. We had fishmen who disliked humans for actual reasons that were warranted, and of course, that hate would be brought down to the kids who learn about it and learn to also keep that hatred going. It shows just how easily this hate is spread to the next generation and why Otohime was right in trying to get the humans and fishmen to live together and be equals and put a stop to this. and while I may not care for him at all, I think if hordy wasn't there, we wouldn't truly know how deep the hate goes. Maybe if he was put in a better arc, or this arc happened before marineford he might have done better, but he got the worst luck of being part of a "look how strong they got" arc.
Seriously, Hody was Metal Gear levels of prophetic. Why does he hate humans, what did humans do to him? Nothing. Not a goddamn thing. He’s the product of being raised by hatred to the point that ignorance and superstition has shaped his entire identity. He doesn’t even know why he hates humans. He’s the logical conclusion of an environment that teaches their children to hate, and we are seeing emergent examples of today. And it’s really no accident he came from the literal ghetto of Fishman Island.
The best part about Fishman Island is that the setup of previous arcs suggests that the Strawhats are going to be in a struggle that they barely get through, only to reveal "This is actually scaled for the Strawhats *before* the timeskip, so they literally all have techniques they don't even need to consider here"
@@I_am_box Gear 4th, bounce man. It was called like that by a friend and I can't think about it differently from that moment. He's "Mexican wrestler Luffy" now and for eternity.
@@mrbubbles6468 tbf Water 7/Enis Lobby was THE character development arc. The Straw Hats went in as a rag tag team of misfits and came out the other side as a legitimate pirate crew. Everything prior was necessary setup but the payoff is only apparent after the fact.
What I love about Luffy's argument against him being a hero is that it goes out the window come Wano arc, where he wants to give everyone food. When he fights Kaido, that's the reason he cites as to why he has to win. He's literally risking his life so other people can eat meat-and he'll take the chance he'll never eat meat again. In conclusion, Luffy is a hero.
People need to remember that we are not what we say we are, but what our actions say we are. Luffy may not ever consider himself a hero, but in the hearts and minds of the people he saves, the kingdoms he liberates, and the readers and watchers of One Piece, he 100% IS a hero.
i mean he want everyone to be able to eat their own meal without worry his own food stock on the other hand..... but even this get thrown out when he celebrate post water 7 where the crew paid for the party
"This crackhead has beat the YOUTH out of you and sent you straight to jail" just floored me. This series has been absolutely killing me by emphasizing the "what is HAPPENING right now" likely going through the heads of everyone who has gotten their ass rocked by Luffy since the time skip.
Well watch episode 1030 it’s one of the lessons Benn Beckman taught him. And he also realized that the history story was more for Nami sake than his own.
"every time he hits you you just start taking more drugs... At this point I don't even think there's a plan anymore. You probably just want to be high for whatever is going on" That was very nonchalantly a very funny line.
This is actually one of the most important arcs in the story. It’s unskipable. It tells us that luffy will destroy the red line, luffy learning that there are people suffering from racism and oppression. The friendship bonded between 2 races that hated each other. that the sun is a big aspect in everyone’s lives, the introduction of a man named joyboy. Poseidon, everything. You wouldn’t even understand wano if you didn’t watch alabasta, skypiea, enies lobby, fish man island, and dressrossa.
I honestly loved Fishman Island. It was never supposed to be taken seriously, it was literally an excuse for all the Straw Hats to just style on an army for a few chapters
Luffy: "Hordy, you sicken me! Eating something that gives you a ridiculous power boost? Using it in a way that reduces your lifespan?" Cut to luffy eating a devil fruit. Cut to luffy using early gear second. Luffy: "Disgraceful!"
Sanji defeats a Fishman under water* Nothing happens* Zoro defeats a fishman under water* “This must be the first time this has ever happened in human history.”
@@honkworld9405Right. The idea is that if you pass your hatred to next generation, they’ll be people like Hordie who haven’t suffered at the hands of anyone, and don’t even have justification for their prejudice, and thusly just hate for hatred’s sake. An empty, soulless, grudge. I think he did a fantastic job to be honest.
Hody is like a parallel to Demalo Black and the Fake Hats during Sabaody, trying to emulate the Hats and falling short. He’s got the crucial traits: Obsessed with drugs, racist, Hawaiian shirt, and a dude on his team who really needs a restraining order for everyone without a Y-chromosome, but he pales in comparison to the unrestrained havoc of the true Captain Crackhead.
Objection: Neither is Vander Decken part of Hody's crew nor does Fakehat have a crewmember that needs a restraining order. Sanji is a true Strawhat. And Brook can't help himself, he has a permanent bone(r).
Jimmy is officially a world hero, even more than Garp. Luffy explicitly reiterating that he doesn't want to learn anything at all (well, more than usual), specifically into the middle one of the biggest lore drop is the finest touch.
I ADORE that you kept the whole hero shpeel between Jinbei and Luffy. It makes me cackle so much cuz hes really THAT dimwitted, "you can have your meat" "Oh okay, cool!" godammit Luffy
Fish man island was super hype at the time bc it was the first real arc after the time skip. We all wanted to see the new and improved crew at full power.
The funniest thing about this is that people often look at Zoro and say "This guy is so badass that he'd never serve anyone.". And then the trauma sets in as they realize "What kind of monster the Captain has to be for This guy to serve him."
I honestly think that fishmen island being more relaxed was needed. Sabody was big, impel down was quiet serious and exciting, marineford was wrll, marineford. A bit chilled arc helped to pull down the tension
I actually really like the idea that Arlong has become an martyred figure within the fishmen community, holding him up to be this mythological rebel leader that he never truly represented.
The Dedication of Jimmy tho. Dude got arrested by a mob, then released and still went into a city currently occupied by a bunch of human hating fishmen in order to take them pictures! He might not be a Captain but he 100% is a Crackhead as well!
I think by far the funniest part of this arc is Luffy’s conq haki wiping out such a huge portion of Hody’s army. Imagine the perspective where you have no idea about that and a dude just standing there, menacingly, knocks out half the people around him.
I thought the Fishman arc helped flesh out the world. Learning about Fisher Tiger and Queen Otohime, as well as the effects of the World Government on other not-quite human societies is really driven home, and it shows how pointless racism truly is.
Little addition to the ass kicking that zorro gave. Hordy the fishman was fighting a human underwater while on super steroids the human let you hit him a bunch of times, and then got one-shot. Well done hordy!
one of the funniest genuine jokes of the Fishman Island arc though was the fact Neptune actually guessed where Weepyhoshi went. Like they only know she is missing and they have seen Megalo swim out the palace. So he suggested that clearly she hid inside her pet giant shark and escaped with Luffy. Everyone just laughs at him thinking no one is that insane that they would try to do such a thing.
I reread Fishman Island recente and yeah, the pacing is kinda whacked. It's like Oda was rushing to get to the flashback, things kinda happen one after the other.
@@LoganWH8honestly give ussop enough prep time and he'd probably get hordy is a trap and then Goliath his ass , as for nami shed probably just drop lighting on his ass and he'd fry
It’s funny how he says this in the fishman island arc how “a hero would share all of the meat with the town”, whereas in wano that’s exactly what his purpose is; ending hunger and disproportionate poverty
The Hordy Pirates are just Black Lives Matter/Antifa of One Piece, so if you’re saying that you hate his character for those reasons alone then you should hate those movements too.
@@lipeeefl , I’m not wrong is the thing because I’m a centrist liberal for the sole reason of me studying various different political ideologies, and why they do or don’t work from Ancient History to now.
@@RoronoaZoro-ur6hr nah what you said was just stupid and I'm not even a leftist. You should study more then. While there are some extremists in those movements you mentioned, those are outliers, as the core belief propagated in blm and antifa are racial equality and anti authoritharianism, respectivelly. Hody Jones is just racist. Even tho he represents a minority, he is more akin to groups like KKK, believing in a "superior race". I'd dare say Jimbei views are more in tune to what BLM is supposed to represent.
The humor and lightheartedness you bring to this series really makes us remember that one piece at its core is a goofy pirate story with ties to serious issues but shouldn’t be taken so seriously always, it’s a fantastical entertaining adventure and your videos bring us back to that point.
I like how in Goofy’s retelling of every arc luffy is just becoming more and more self aware of the fact that he’s the main character. To the point he recognizes there’s a bad guy he needs to punch and bof he beats up the bad guy he gets food.
Fishman island always felt like going back to the story mission after finishing several series of optional side quests. They were so overpowered compared to everything, which makes sense. Barring any fucky-wucky events, this place was essentially at their power level for the first time they showed up.
it still is crazy how Hordy was strengthened far, far past his normal limits, and the fight literally took place underwater where Hordy is at his best and Luffy is at his absolute worst, and Luffy still absolutely ruined him effortlessly
I can't sit through video's where RU-vidrs theorize and say what they think is gonna happen I just get lost but your re-telling of the arcs is really engaging and awesome every video is a banger and your like My only one piece channel I follow!
Unlike with your past videos, with this one you had to change almost nothing from the canon - just exaggerate some personalities and change a line or two and you can call it a day. This means that the Fishman Island is, at least of the arcs you've covered so far, objectively THE most hilarious.
I'll say it we should appreciate fishman island more for being the showcase arc for the strawhats letting us show off after two years of hard work cause I mean look how good the strawhats looked during that whole thing. Also appreciate Hordy for being the punching bag for us to test some of the new skills we will see further in later arcs evolve and change. So thank you fishman island.
Dont let the hilariousness of fishman island distract you from the fact that Vander Decken took one look at a mermaid who was a CHILD, not some curvaceous mermaid with the body of a 18yr old, but a CHILD, and decided: yep, I'm going to marry her no matter what.
I love the videos man! But at this point, I think Jimmy D. Scoops should be the last member of the straw hats and use supreme king's haki whenever he says "Now this is big news!"
Still think that this is the best version of One Piece Abridged out there. Love it. Literally telling my friends who don’t watch op to jump on and watch the vids. Great stuff
Man, I'm so happy I found your channel. I've been cracking up each time I've watched each arc video. I know you're gonna blow up soon and I'm happy to be part of that ride.
Funny thing was, prior to certain spoilery events, I just assumed that having armament haki allowed you to cause your attacks to have fire. Luffy, Zoro and Sanji all have it and all of them have done, at minimum, one fire based attack up to the end of Fishman Island.
Honestly just the way you managed to put together all the memes that have been coming from the older vids is just too funny, and finally someone that gives this arc the relevance it deserves! Fishman Island may have been a bit undertone but it was a blast
YEEES!! just finished this arc. Hordy poppin percs and Decken being the biggest pedo was wild!! Edit: honorable mention to Sanji needing a fucking BLOOD TRANSFUSION from resting his head in some mermaid tiddies 😂
The fact that goofy consistently does these Hilarious videos while leaving out the funniest part of the arc every time is great. Allow me to elaborate, this is a 30 minute video on how Fishman Island is hilarious and there is not one mention of Sanji.
Never forget that Hordy really thought water would be his trump card against Zoro…. The same Zoro who already bodied a fish man in water over 2 years ago at Arlong Park…while he was still healing from a wound that should have killed him from Mihawk. AND the same dude that gave Zoro the wound just so happens to be the same man who has been training this green haired psychopath for the last two years…. But yeah water was definitely gonna stop him 😂
In my personal opinion Hordy was a bigger threat to fishman island than crocodile was to alabasta. Hordy literally almost destroyed the entire island with a big ship. Crocodile used a budget CP-9 to do his dirty work and had it all crumble. Even his backup plan for his backup plan for his backup plan didn't work but Hordy just went with the flow and if it weren't for Shirahoshi and her seaking speaking powers he would have destroyed all of fishman island just cuz he grew up thinking humans were bad
I think Fishman Island is pretty damn good on a rewatch. It has some really heavy themes, I think it's kinda dope that they really make you wait for the crew to pop off and show off what they've been doing. I've been going back and watching episodes with my girlfriend, and it's been really cool revisiting these arcs knowing what I do. We're about to do Punk Hazard, I cannot WAIT to hit Dressrosa.
You need to do romance dawn. Crackhead pops out of a barrel and beats up your crew. Then switch the Morgan. Crackhead comes out of nowhere, frees a prisoner and then topples your rule of tyranny. Then syrup village. You're captain Kuro, youve been making an elaborate plan for years earning the trust of the people, and right when you want to execute your plan a crackhead teams up with an annoying dude and kicks your ass
