Nice video! FWIW, I've replaced the battery twice in my Mini Charge and, the second time, replaced the 5AH with a 7AH battery which works much better (longer) for busking. I used heavy-duty hook/loop to hold the battery down in place of the OEM bracket. IMO it's easier to remove all the battery clamp screws at one time with the unit laying on its back. When 3 screws are removed and 4th is loosened, if the battery does move, it's going to pivot approx 1/2" and rest against the back of the case . When the 4th is removed, the other end of the battery will"drop" that 1/2" onto the back of the unit. The first time I replaced it with the same size battery, the battery didn't move at all because the rubber surround in the bracket had "glued" it to the case. I had to 'pop' the battery with my hand to break it loose. In any case, unless you intentionally throw the amp against the wall, the battery isn't going to do anything when you turn the case upright to unscrew the 6 side screws.
Thanks! I just changed my battery and this was a huge help! Most difficult part was getting the head back in place. Might be good to show that in more detail.
Great video! Just got my Fishman working again. One screw in the speaker was stripped so I had a heck of a time getting that out. Other than that, it was easy peasy. Thanks!!
Thanks for the vid. Kinda ridiculous Fishman didn’t make the battery more accessible. Removing the speaker and electronic board shouldn’t be the design for the replacement process.
I agree. I cut a square access into the back......4 screws and I'm done. This after stripping the amp to a skeleton. Probably gonna get haters over this. Never gonna sell it, why not make it easier? Great video tho, thanks. Wonderful amp.
with the Crate Limo i only take the speaker away and change the battery,i have a Carvin 150 watts with 12volts 8ah battery ,i open the speaker only once and take change the battery, but this Fishman is too much screws out to take small battery
I can tell you it's definitely not good if the amp sits for a while. I had maybe 5 sessions max, probably 4-5 hours each on average. I usually plugged the amp in towards the end of each session and I think I only ever ran it completely out of juice once. The amp seemed amazing...then I let it sit for probably 2 years without playing it. When I went to fire it up again...flashing yellow light indicating a dead battery.
my fishman wasn't showing signs of dying, it just randomly won't turn on now (no green light). I plug charger in and the yellow charging light only lasts for 3-5 seconds before turning off. could this be a sign that my fishman needs battery replacement?
Awesome video! the exact same thing happened to me during the lockdown too. Lucky I was able to get it fixed for free by Gear4Music but it's great to now know how to fix it myself if the battery goes bad again.
Great video. I need to replace mine. Could you provide a link and/or model/catalog # on Amazon, etc? There are several different ones there, want to get the right one thanks very much.
This is a joke right? You seriously have to do all that to change a battery? Why not just put a door in the back? This is completely stupid. I'll stick to my plug-in amp.
Did you have to pay a licensing fee for Alvin the Chipmunk to narrate part of the video? Thanks for the info in this video on the DIY battery replacement! Much appreciated!!
Great, helpful video! My question is this: When attempting to charge my Mini Charge the yellow charge light kept flickering and the battery never charged. Does this mean the battery is spent and can no longer be charged? I let the amp sit without charging the battery for about 1.5 years, so I am assuming that killed the battery. I have not been able to contact Fishman for help with this. They don't answer the phone, and their message says to leave an email. I left an email and have not received a response. This makes me wonder just how reliable Fishman Support is. Hmmm...🤔 Now that I see how easy battery replacement is due to your great video I'll get a battery and replace it myself. Thanks!
As far as I know, flashing yellow light means problem with the battery. It could be 1 of 2 things, if u took the unit apart and a wire is off it will flash yellow fast, or if the battery is so exhausted, the unit will not detect a battery is even hooked up. You can open it up and attach an external battery charger (such as a trickle charger used for a motor cycle or garden tractor) to see if it will change, but if I was to guess, u need a new battery. They are cheap enough to replace and your problem will be solved.
Is this amp really sounding as good as the regular ac electric only Loudbox mini ? Where is it made? Mine was made in Indonesia. I appreciate the video as I had concerns on the battery replacement.
I was told by Fishman that they are acoustically exact, but the electronics are designed different. If you’re in the market maybe you can do a side by side comparison. I can tell you my ears love the tone and clarity of this amp, plus the size is just right.
@@jasper_north I bought the ac model so I don’t know how the battery one sounds like. I didn’t like the idea of taking the amp apart just to change the batteries which are lead acid
Great video. I was thinking to convert my old Loudbox Mini o run wth battery power The Tolex is Knackered anyway. Do you think that this battery would be good enough to run through a separate Inverter__ or would I need more Juice . Maybe I just buy the CHARGE! thanks again.. PS - How diid you get the acrade machines down the stairs??
Looks like it is this one: smile.amazon.com/Mighty-Max-Battery-ML5-12-Rechargeable/dp/B079ZCJYP3/ref=sr_1_5?crid=28ZU66KUJNX6N&dchild=1&keywords=12+volt+5ah+sealed+lead+acid+battery&qid=1595017917&sprefix=12+volt+5+ah%2Caps%2C243&sr=8-5

Great when you answer your own questions. :o) What's not so great is that I've had one of these great little amps for 8 1/2 months and already the battery seems to a problem. It has self-discharged a lot while I didn't use the amp for the last two months and now it is taking a long time to charge. The sound of the amp is great but I suspect that the battery is Chinese junk.
Hello sir, since I don't understand anything about electronics, seeing as you understand what you're doing and you have an amp like mine that I want to make lighter due to having to carry it on my back while i play/performing walking on the streets. I would like to take a question with you and ask if it is possible to apply a lithium battery to this amplifier? and if it is possible, what type of voltage and amperes would be needed (battery characteristics) to maintain the same power and autonomy.... And if charging would be possible with the same charger or would have to purchase/adapt another(charger) specific for lithium batteries? I would be very grateful if you could inform me and so help me in this matter (my spine would appreciate). I don't know anyone in my area who understands electronica, much less have an amplifier like this one. And searching the web I found your video on youtube. Thanks.
Great video, thank you! Question : is it possible to remove the battery for, say, winter evenings indoor gigging (when it's back), using the DC power supply, hence making it lighter to carry around? And putting it for outdoors playing only easily?
It’s worth a try, I would suspect the light on the front would continuously flash fast indicating a problem white the charming system not detecting a battery. I don’t know if it would work like this or completely not work.
@@brianweiner945 Thanks for your answer! I'm really tempted to buy it, but at this weight, every kilogram counts, and its most interesting competitor, the Orange Acoustic Crush is 3 kg lighter though less powerful but not sure I need the extra 30 W to be honest. For indoor gigs I use a Yamaha soundboard, and barely go past 12 o'clock on the board levels, and even less that 9 o'clock on my AER Alpha 40.
That can be easily done with a toggle switch to the tweeter line, but just curious why would you want to? The are low, mid, hi controls that can be adjusted.
Any idea if I can transform my Loudbox mini into a Loudbox mini charge by adding such a battery? Could I just connect a computer-UPS to have electricity while the power goes out?
When I called Fishman asking about these amps they told me they were designed differently. I would guess there is a way to power it without electricity using batteries and an inverter but I don’t really know much more about that.
no way that amp is 60 rms, looking at the battery 12v only 5ah ,probably is 30watts , i had a Fender can 25 watts with the same battery in the video..i'am disappointed ..my crate limo 50 watts TX carry an 12 volts 8ah battery bigger than the one i see in this video..
