Yay! New Jersey is the state I was born and raised in. Every AT thru-hiker I've seen is blown away by how beautiful New Jersey really is - it's certainly underrated. It may be the most densely populated state, but definitely has its wilderness and rural areas, and they are lovely. It also has the most black bears! Not surprised one was hanging around the campsite! I hope you get to see one, but be careful and keep your food safe!
You know I'm from New England, and I'm impressed from a guy that really is a flatland from. Florida you have really adapted superbly to the mountains and this trail. Since you are familiar with the water. That you will reward yourself and your family with a leisurely tour of the new England coast on the way home. Acadia nat. Park. Noble lighthouse in York, me. Newburyport ma. And plumb island., ma. And cape Ann or Gloucester, ma. Which is pronounced...(gloss) (stir)😊 Enjoy being along with you have a good day. I like these new camp sites also. Good idea.

I’m so glad the bakery is still there! The best pies, stopped there in the 90’s when our son was in a nearby college. And your squeaky shoe is history. I’m so enjoying your hike. Good luck in NJ! Although you’re probably in NY by now. 👏👏

So jealous. About a week and a half ago my friend and I wanted to camp at that spot so bad, but we really needed water so we went on. Good for you. I’ll see tomorrow how beautiful your sunrise was.
Looks like you guys had a great day. You met some nice people, had lunch, Leo got some food, you found a fancy outfit to wear while finally able to wash your clothes, seen some beautiful views, not many rocks. A great day❤ Its to bad you missed the bear though. I saw Sticks video of the bear he came across, walking right on the trail. Theyre probably afraid of Leo. I dont know about in New Jersey, but here in Wisconsin, they use dogs alot for hunting bear, unfortunately. I feel like thats to easy for the hunter, and its very stressful for the poor bear. Hearing all those crickets made me feel like autumn had arrived. They sound like that in September/October in Southwest Missouri. OMG, BEST place to camp for the night, gorgeous!!!!
Glad to see you're in my home state, i hope it treats you well. Stilled bummed i missed you guys, could have offered you a place to crash, laundry and a pool. There are a ton of bears here but it just occurred to me you are probably scaring them off with Leo's tags jingling. A lot of people here hike and bike with bells so it may be they here you coming and you pushed that bear to the campsite as it fled. If you aren't already past it, stop at the creamery in Bellvale. Good ice cream and shakes, water for hikers, bathroom and great views.
Such beautiful views! Seems there are some really awesome people out there! Leo seems so happy. And his weight looks good. Don’t you pay any attention to the nay-sayers… Every bear I have ever seen has squealed as bad as me and ran!!! lol
When you choose scenic places to tent, are they pre-existing. Or are you just making your own. Are there some states that allow more liberty than others.
Re: Bear Just past boardwalk section in Jersey you’ll start to climb the Stairway To Heaven to viewpoint. A Bear lives on the side of that mountain. Better chance to see her if early am.
