Hi Lee, I'm in love with the Irish Green. And I'm in agreeance with Kanon 08 below in that I would have painted the ducktail in the same colour as the car. It's enough that you know it's made from carbon fibre. Just my thoughts. Cheers Peter
Appreciate your sentiments, Peter, especially as such a long-time supporter of this channel. How to finish the duck was a real dilemma for me, as you'll see next vid!
More more more! I’m really into these posts. Loving progress on the most unloved of the 911’s and how you’re turning it around. Would love to know costs involved. Really tempted with going to drive one. Keep up the good work, and next video please :)
Thank you so much for the kind words! It's proving great fun improving a car that even I didn't like too much when I got it. Cost of the paint will vary according to the prep needed for each car, full pricing for the CSR ducktails is on the RPM Technik website (there are a number of different options so you can choose the one which bests suits you).
I’ve been on the fence considering which way to go with my own 996 rear wing and this looks fantastic. I have to admit that I am in total suspense as to the cost of the thing. Will you ever reveal?
Thank you! I'm so happy with the result, it looks beautiful. Regards costs, I'm reticent to discuss this so publicly. I'm old fashioned in that regard: I don't feel the need to throw around figures like a badge of honour, which seems to be rare for a Millennial. I've simply spent what I can afford, and implore others to do exactly the same, whatever that may be. What I will say is full pricing for the CSR ducktails are on the RPM Technik website - I went for the most cost effective option as you'll see. Paint costs vary depending on the amount of prep work needed. I hope that's an answer you find sufficient, apologies if not.
Hey do.you have som result or feeling about the downforce improvement?? You just said you hoped for improvement. So is it just cosmetic or do the manufacturer claims something about aerodynamics?? Thanks
Thanks for sharing and great to see the manufacturing process. I’m thinking of getting a CSR one and can’t decide between body colour (meteor grey) and clear coat.
My pleasure. With Meteor grey I'd be tempted to go full lacquer, if you can get away with showing that weave then it'd be a shame to cover it. It really is so beautiful to look at.
Nicely made bit of kit. Nice material. To my eyes anyway it looks like bits of so called 'go faster' black accessories we used to randomly buy in Halfords in the seventies and stick all over a Ford Capri. Personally I prefer the clean lines of the back of the standard car with the functionality of a spoiler that raises up when needed and tucks away when not.
That Carbon rear wing is 2k. I grabbed a original Porsche 996 Turbo wing off Ebay and had it painted Lapis blue Then welded 5" stand off 's on it. drilled through the Top plastic tray and secured through metal backing plate on underside. Factory Part and looks sick. $500 all in.
Any yellowing with the carbon fiber with the heat from the engine? That is what I’m afraid of. Carbon fiber is notorious for yellowing with heat. Thanks!
Hi Lee. As always, great content. Ive contacted RPM about their ducktail spoiler and they were really helpful. I just want ask you as you've had one installed for sometime, if the rear brake light under the windscreen is obscured? All the best.
Great video - can’t wait to see it finished! Shame we can’t know how much it weight vs standard deck lid. Also - did you remove the motors etc... that raise the standard lid? And what does it cost normally to order? Because I want one :-)
I hope you will be painting it in the body Irish green. If so, as a Porsche 996 C4S owner its a thumbs up from me. 👍 Ps. Left in Carbon fibre it may look a bit naff! Whats the cost?
This has been a dilemma for me, I can assure you! Costs vary depending on what ducktail you want, mine was the most cost effective hence no high-level brake light or back grilles (full pricing is all on the RPM Technik website).
Superb video, and a truly special part. Well done.. To my mind the all carbon look is a little "ricer" (I'm old) but I get you're desire to show that ultra high quality piece off in all its naked glory. I'd imagine that may lighten up your front end further at speed, so you may want to consider a front lip.
Love the ducktail buddy ;-) Been on the ropes of replacing my aero deck lid with one for about a year now Look forward to seeing it fitted And seeing it made must of been interesting too
@@9WERKSTV Fitted RPMs lightweight fly wheel and sprung clutch not long back too and cant fault the customer service ;-) Keep up the vids ;-) you've made some great content
Lee Hartshorn likewise, the rear aero wing is a heavy bit of kit and maybe something I will do in the future, I’ve not properly looked into it but I thought the RPM ducktail was a couple of grand.
I can't be the first to notice the video length can I..... 9:11? I looked up your other videos and found a lot of them are 9:12 (perhaps an homage to the 991.2? Am I onto something here or is this just an amazing coincidence?
I fully intend on swapping out the seats because a) the ruffled leather look is comical and b) they offer no comfort or support whatsoever. I'm open to suggestions on what to replace them with…
@@allanlai_ I had them in my first 911 (996.2 C4) and although they are better than the Comfort seats I currently have, I still don't think they offer great support, particularly at the shoulders, though they are more comfortable.
Carbon fibre should be fine until temperatures that exceed 200^C, which is perfectly fine for body parts that won't get to those temperatures in any way. Titanium is more heat resistance (600^C) but it's heavier and more expensive, also carbon fibre it's less shock absorbent but doesn't deform linearly
@@9WERKSTV I have to ask, is there any way to have made your ducktail "woven" with green? I understand, specifically why you left it bare, but wondered if it could get colored.
@@LeeePowers Good question! I've no idea if it could be done, I imagine it'd be very difficult to get a good colour match to the rest of the car though?
