Fitting a COLLINS PERFORMANCE Roll Restrictor to my ST150 | Torque Mount | POWERFLEX | MYTHBUSTED

After the clear difference the Powerflex rear axle bushes made to the car I decided to install a Collins Performance Roll Restrictor (made with Powerflex bushes) and I've heard a lot of hype about these in the Fiesta world, particularly on the MK7s but it's the same mount for the MK6. Also known as a torque mount it replaces the original lower gearbox mount and is designed to reduce engine movement under acceleration making the car feel more stable and reducing wheel hop. Whilst it's not claimed by the manufacturer, there is a lot of talk online of people saying their car felt more powerful with one of these fitted, presumable due to the reduction in torque lost to engine movement - meaning more is transferred to the wheels.
Instead of just talking about how it feels I purchased a GoPro and mounted it to the underside of the car to show you the difference in engine movement before and after fitting the roll restrictor.

Omg mate! I just changed to this mount. I was able to rock the engine by hand with the old mount, it fell apart while removing the bracket, with the new mount i cannot rock it by hand 🙌🔥 loooks so good too 👍😎

I was gonna do this and then I got under my car to see the previous owner already put a fresh powerlfex version in. Mint it makes me happy that the extra money I spent looking for a mint st150 the little things were done. Suprised how much the engine was moving and so glad myne is already done.

I have the Collins mount, love it. I'd definitely recommend changing the upper engine and gearbox mounts too, made such a big difference to mine as the original ones were absolutely dead, upper gearbox mount fell apart in my hand when i took it off. I replaced them with Febi ones. Also eliminated a very annoying knock i had for a couple of years which i was really pleased about 😂

Can you please tell me more about this knock? I have one when engaging clutch from standstill, even after powerflex inserts for top two mounts and purple poly for bottom torque mount

Are the gearbox and upper engine mounts just the inserts?

@@thomas9434 yes, yellow with some purple powerflex inserts for those two and a whole purple torque mount

Great vid mate, really well made. Actually surprised how much it moves with the standard mount! I once had one for a brief time with a 4-2-1 header, but factory mounts --not ideal, that movement translates to a lot at the end of the header, down next to the cat. this one didn't have a flexi-joint either :( I have a purple Powerflex, quite a bit of vibration, but then it is used for motorsport :) Response is the word.

Your original was defo worn Mike ..mine had gone the same more so on the smaller bush , swapped mine out for the mountune ..and ye vice makes life easier getting that dam bracket off ..great idea on the GoPro for engine view 😎😎…

More than likely it's due to the fact that the original one you had on was still doing the job. I'm sure I would be saying there is a big difference with my 2004 VW Passat Wagon 1.8T 5speed once I get to mine because of the wear. 228k when I got it. Motor still strong and soo quiet. Even though she is one of those lucky ones that just goes and goes without many issues I'm sure the engine mounts, snub mount, and trans mounts would help alot to replace. Im watching cuz my mah has a 2014 Fiesta Titanium. Anything that may make my mahs ride safer and more controllable I'm down to do for her

Another great video mate. I have to say. Your homemade ramps make me nervous every time because they don’t have a block to stop the car from rolling off the end if the handbrake fails.

Thanks mate, yeah I know what you mean, I did mean to make something that was either fixed of at least slotted in to keep from rolling off the end. My girlfriend saw your comment and was like “LISTEN TO THIS GUY” 😂😂

I was actually impressed with your ramps (no catching the bumpers) -just chock the back wheels? if the car was to roll forward, the sills should land on the ramps anyway... :)

no idea how il get my bracket off as i have the bassics of tools, a few screwdrivers really. no vice of massive wrench like you had. Is this a garage job for me?

Nah you’ll be find mate, my mate did his in 6 minutes once he got the car in the air 😂 and he’s literally just got a socket set, axle stands and a ropey jack 😂

My bad I got it wrong 👍 someone installed the powerflex upper right gearbox insert I thought it was you. 21 on the powerflex diagram.

With tigerseal 😂😂 I’ve seen videos of people making their own DIY polybushes with liquid polyurethane set into the original mount 🤯

There definitely is a difference but the experience was very underwhelming compared to what I was expecting after all the hype lol. Maybe my fault for expecting too much. Depending on what brand you get of course I really don’t think they should cost as much as they do, as when I bought it and saw it in real life I knew they did not cost that much to produce. Put it this way, I bought a trolley jack and jack stands for half the price I paid for the Mount and way more metal was used so I don’t get why the Mount is over £100😂 Overall I do think it improves the car, but for the difference it actually makes it should be like £50 max. As like you said it doesn’t blow me away. But that’s my 2 cents.

Hi mate great video! I’m looking to upgrade mine as when I let the clutch out fast it makes a knocking sound like somethings loose but isn’t so I’m guessing it’s a bad mount

Only happens when you let the clutch out fast so I have to ride the clutch to make it not bang 😂
