Great videos I'm also following your build. I'm a first time body rebuilder and I just finished with my 72' chevelle. I wish I would have discovered you videos first. I did how ever leave the rear tail panel and trunk filler panel till I decided too replace them at the last min. Good idea. I think in all reality, by leaving it, with the one quarter, I was able to use it as a guild too locate the new quarter panels. With out that all in place, one has to guess. the truck lid also gives you additional help. Great ideas saves a lot of time and trouble.

Thanks so much. . I really appreciate your kind words. . Yes, I did. Leave the rear trunk filler panel last, so I could line up my quarter panels. . Ran into some problems with the upper cowl panel. Good thing I save all my metal so I could compare. The new parts. Thanks again my friend... All the best.

You tucked the roof line first? How did you get the rear part to over the trucl rear panel? I am haveing a hell of a time getting mine aligned

@classicrewind2715 4 года назад
Hi Scott. I actually took the quarter panel under the roof line and if I'm not mistaken it gets tucked under the trunk filler panel. It was hard getting it up under the roof line. I had to lift the quarter-panel up by the wheel well, so I had enough metal to weld it. I hope this helps
@Zoniebaer

@@classicrewind2715 I got it! I was pushing the 1/4 panel from the rear as well as up to get over the Rear tail patch area just above the rear bumper . I had about 1/4 inch short every where. I took the panel ( jammed it) "tucked it" under the roof panel and lifted up as I swung the panel down. It just slipped on like a glove, every thing is aligned with one tack weld to by the rook and Clamps every where. I think I am going to do teh other side then weld it all in place. I should of watch this one before I attempted to install it . Thanks for the video!

I'm glad this video helped you. if you watched the last five minutes it pretty much shows you how that quarter-panel should sit. I did have a hard time, the first time . I must have taken that panel on and off about 15 times just to make sure everything fits properly.
@jamesdole7593

Did you have any fitment issues at the 1/4 panel, outer wheel house and trunk filler panel interface? I have replaced the rear wheel housings , trunk floor pan and trunk filler panels on my 68 lemans. The new 1/4 panel fit well enough everywhere except at this location.
@classicrewind2715

I think you are trying to explain that the filler panel trunk pan and outer wheel well is hitting . If this is the spot. Go to the 15:30 minute Mark of this video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DowD9p8Wk3c.html

@@classicrewind2715 Thanks for the response and I apologize for my late response. Further investigation, by a friend who works for a body shop, has uncovered the fact that this car was apparently involved in some type of collision as he discovered that the shell is not square. This is probably why there was so much bondo throughout and some really bad body work originally. Plan B is yet to be formalized. At any rate, thanks for your videos as your channel has been extremely helpful and saved me a lot of time and trouble.

I'm doing a 72 Chevelle now and when I fit the qtr on the car the area in the wheel opening where the outer wheelhouse and qtr meet, the outer house is sticking in 1/2" inside the qtr....I thought I remember in a video you saying you had to split and bend the outer to adjust the lip fitment....do you have any vids or pics of how you did it? I kinda know what needs done but would be nice to see it before I start... Thanks
@classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 Год назад
I think you're referring to the 6 Minute Mark of the video. What I ended up doing was cutting slits horizontally, every half 1/2" or so. It made it easy to bend to fit the quarter panel. It was only bad at the lower 1/3 by the rocker panel. I don't know where yours is bad. But you do have to tack weld the inner wheelhouse and quarter. You will have to weld then anyway. So if you cut 1/2 inch slits. To form it to the quarter panel, you can go back and weld everything after. I don't recall having a video on that. But I will keep looking. Thanks for watching. I hope this helps. All the best

I order a lot from OPG. Some came from eBay and some from Resto parts. I had issues with some of the panels. Firewall especially and the doors gave me a problem. The supplier that I have a problem with corrected it very quickly. It doesn't matter where you get your panels from they are all manufactured in three different plants. Yes some are better than others. Ames is very good as well. They give you a description on how the panels fit. I hope this helps. All the best

I don't know if that changes if you're overseas. All the best. good luck let me know how you make out with getting the parts.

Do you have to brace up the structure before removing the old quarter panel?
@classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 3 года назад
I braced the inside of the inner quarter panel. I only removed the quarter without interfering with the inner wheel well or trunk pan. I tried to keep as much of the car together and I only remove the part that I need. I hope this helps

Had a couple of camaros that I had to put quarterpanels on, (both were on the passenger side) and I got the aftermarket panels that only extend to the top crease of the original quarter. The metal beyond the crease was in good condition so I saw no need to do a full quarter on either one and, and both turned out great. Some guys don't like the partial quarters and then there are those who prefer them because they don't have to deal with the trunks area or the rear window. Also they only cost about a 3rd of what the full quarter would cost. Do you have a preference between the 2 or do you use either one based on the condition of the original quarter?
@classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 4 года назад
Hi Jeffrey. That is a very good question. It comes down to preference. I have a 68 Chevelle that leaks in the trunk because of the window Channel. It is a very bad design from the beginning. That is the only reason why I did full quarters. There was a lot of work done to the previous panels as well. A lot of body filler. They were skins. So replace that whole 1/4. I did not want it to give me a problem in the future. All the best my friend. thanks for the question..

These kind of detail oriented videos are awesome. Watching the real-time issues that come up with rebuilding a 51 year old car is priceless. When I first started a few years back I thought I had solid problem solving skills. An A body panel replacement project using reproduction sheet metal will teach you about how much more you can learn. I’d add that pre fitting the window trim (along with glass) while the welder is still out will help. The angles and arc of the quarters did NOT match the trim by as much as 3/16”
@classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 5 лет назад
Oh yes, definitely there is a lot to learn. Every car is different, every panel is different, for instance. I have a gap between my door and quarter panel up top. it's good on the bottom. Therefore I will have to weld a bead so the reveal is equal across. I'm sure every car is different because of movement placement and fitment of the panel. Thanks for watching. All the best my friend

I have a question.....what is the best starting point for a restoration? The front cowl area?...floor pans?...or the back section? ie: trunk..inner/outer wheel wells...tail panel...quarters etc. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
@classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 4 года назад
Hi, Donald. That is a very good question. If you're doing a full restoration, like I am. I would start at the floor pan. The previous owner installed floor patches and when he did that he cut into the firewall. So I did not want to keep patching metal on metal. So I decided to replace the whole floor pan and firewall. . What I did first was the floor pan. That included the rear area. I went to the trunk pan, quarter panels.,Firewall I just finished the cowl panel. now I'm working on the window Channel. . I hope this helps? If you start watching my videos from the beginning. I show you all the problems that I run into, Doing my restoration. All the best and good luck.

@classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 4 года назад
Hi Tyson. The trunk filler panel goes between the inner wheelhouse and the trunk pan. The filler panel is pretty much flush with the floor pan on the inside and that area normally gets seam filler after you weld it from underneath. I hope this explains it. all the best

I had the same problem with my passenger side quarter meeting the outer wheel house. It looked exactly like yours, but mine is a 71 Chevelle. I'm using AMD sheet metal all around. The drivers side fits fine. I ended up beating on the outer wheel house a bit but still couldn't move it far enough. I'll have to weld it where it is and smooth it with a little filler so it doesn't look bad. Plus, the wheel house opening trim should mask it a bit. Great video!
@classicrewind2715
@classicrewind2715 5 лет назад
Hi Joe. Yes, very difficult to fit. the problem I had with the passenger side as well, is where the door meets the quarter panel. it's open on the top end so what I'm going to do is probably weld a bead on the door, so the Gap is closer. I don't want to cut the quarter., so there's no chances of it warping when I weld. I bought my metal from OPGI. The quarters that they supplied me came from overseas somewhere. I can't remember the name off the top of my head. If you would like I could find out and respond to you later.. All the best. Good luck with your Chevelle!! I'm going to be taking my Chevelle out soon. I should be posting another video of the driver side quarter in the next day or so. Take care my friend!
