Hi Everyone
Welcome to California Time!
We (Will, Sarah and Lucy the collie) are here to share our VW California experiences, reviews and support with all of you wonderful people.
This video shows me (Will) installing a new rear bumper protector on our T6.1 California. This equally will apply to Transporters and Caravelles too. This protector is from Vanstyle and fits both T6 and T6.1. It is available in four finishes but we just have the plain black plastic.
See here for the exact one we bought: bit.ly/3ttz3YL
Thanks for watching and please share your comments below - we'd love to hear what videos you'd like to see, and any help you want to lend to us to make our RU-vid content better too.
Take care, sit back and grab yourself some California Time !

I’d pull the stickers all off and place carefully. May have issues squaring if off and not being close enough to the edge of the bumper.

would there be any issues in removing it i.e. would it damage the paintwork on the bumper?
@CampervanTime
@CampervanTime 2 года назад
No, I can’t see any reason it would. The tape holds it slightly away from the paintwork so that should mean there aren’t scratches under it. If removing, I’d use a hair dryer or (lightly) a heat gun to warm the tape up so it comes away nicely.

@@CampervanTime heating is good, but the tape is very strong so i would also pass fishing line underneath to speperate the tape and then clean off what is left on the bumper with a glue remover

Must get one of those protectors. Good video. I see you have abandoned the California. Are you missing it. A bus & beyond got shot of their van too.

Yes we miss it, but more having a change in rather than abandon we’d say. We have had one for 4 years now as we had our T6 Ocean prior to the T6.1 too. We still love them to bits!

Just about to fit mine to my 6.1. Would you recommend using the primer provided? Mine came with no time instructions? Many thanks
@CampervanTime
@CampervanTime Год назад
Yes, definitely use it. You need that glue / Velcro to stick very well given the temperature fluctuations that the can will experience- you don’t want the isotop to fall down in hot weather! We did it 24 hours before fitting.

Did you put the adeshive over the whole top of the bumper or just the taped sections?
@CampervanTime
@CampervanTime 2 года назад
All I used was the taped sections - no need for any more than that as the 3m VHB tape they use is STRONG!
@willsvanadventures
@willsvanadventures 2 года назад
@@CampervanTime ok thanks! So just line it up where the tape will go and then put the adeshive on that section? Sorry for the dumb questions haha. I've just had my bumpers painted so don't wanna mess them up.

@@willsvanadventures There is no need for any separate adhesive or anything like that. The solution you see me using is just isopropyl alcohol to clean the bumper, nothing else. Then it's just the tape on the back of the bumper protector, that's all. Cleaning your bumper with the alcohol just takes away any traces of grease, traffic grime etc so the tape will stick properly. That's all !

Absolutely perfect - hasn't moved at all and hasn't faded or warped etc. Very pleased with it.

I’m just about to have this removed from mine as the bottom of the door rubs on it and is now rusting.
@CampervanTime

Oh no! We didn’t have that problem with the one on our T6 so will keep an eye on this one now

@@CampervanTime it seems to bridge the gap between the door and bumper and rubs when driving

Hi Will, Further to these comments regarding the rub on the rear door, I wonder if now 12 months down the line you could confirm if yours is behaving as Diane's did please?
