Lamont/Steynmeyer would have been my first rec. as well. All Jim's history books are great. Ah, you beat me to it. Also, all of the Ricky Jay histories.

Thanks Alex, great recommendation. Amazing books, some already in the list, others pending. The one i"d add is the illustrated history of magic, which somehow is similar to secrets history of magic. Great content as usual, keep it up.

Thanks Marco! "The Illustrated History of Magic" was the first book of magic that I bought and I still use it for my research. It is a great source of information, but a lot of things have to be double checked + it is not always clear where some facts or stories come from as there are no references. So I think it is definitely a great starting point especially if one reads it together with other literature.

@@ArtofImpossible agree my friend, same for me, was the first history book I read and as you mentioned it has a lot of information that needs to be double check. My second book was the secret history of magic. I think it was a nice thing to do, as this second one is more accurate and then help you to clear things out.

Hi Alex, great video! I loved reading the book: Adelaide Hermann Queen of Magic. It's so fantastic that her "book" written in draft was found so many years later. The detail in her book is astounding! As a magic historian I would love to see some of the original pages. Do you know if these have been scanned and posted on any website?

Hi Jody, Thank you for the comment! It is interesting because I have bought this book just a week ago! I wanted to start working on a video about Adelaide and was looking for books about her and was surprised to discover that her lost diaries had been found (moreover, printed and made available for a little price). Great book indeed! Could not find any scans of the original pages yet, unfortunately, would love to see the too!
