I am Dr. Alex Romanoff and I make documentaries about the history of magic.
I create videos about the history of magic and its role in culture and art. I have written a PhD about history of magic and have been performing magic for the last 15 years. Apart from that, I work as a video editor and motion designer. I combined my passion for magic and visual storytelling to create this channel and explore biographies of outstanding magicians, tell about fantastic inventions and impossible illusions. I believe that learning more about the past of the art of magic can help us make its future better. Send me an email of find me on Instagram if you want to chat.
David Gerard said a similar thing during his lecture at The Session 2024. His friends implored him to lower his energy during his show but one of David's mentors said that his high energy is his superpower. So David amped the energy in his show and now most of his show looks like David is on 10 lines or coke. And that is exactly what makes him stand out.

I have seen , up close, the copy of Kellar's fake head that he used in his Decapitation illusion. It was part of a private magic collection here in my city of Nashville. David Price kept this museum in his home. David Copperfield, while on tour in Tennessee even stopped by David's house to see all the amazing original magic artifacts. He had magic wands from MANY famous magicians. He had Nelson T. Downs coin ladder. Many original large magic posters. Just to name a few. If I'm not mistaking, Price owned an original poster of Chung Ling Soo's bullet catch. Copperfield owned the actual gun and wanted the poster to go with it but Price would not sell it.
very good questions ... and Andrea is a very nice man and really interested in magic - however, the answers are not really inspiring ... where are really new ideas to enhance the art of magic? I have been trying for years to persuade those responsible to include "Theater Magic". But the competitions have remained more or less the same for over 70 years: 10 minutes and no more. I think that's far too little for an art. One should also get rid of 1st, 2nd, 3rd price. That is sports ... not art ... Eric Eswin introduced some years ago the new idea of handing out a Valentine-Award. Named after the real name of Cardini ... this great magician. Valentine Award could be then similar to the "Oscar" ...
This is not an accurate history, but a populist, patriarchal, and Euro-Centric sermon. He dose not even nention the Tarot, the return od the Fool card as a Joker, and the Travelers. A false "sleight of bland."
The content is just too good brother. So happy to have stumbled on your videos. SMall question: was there something wrong with your microphone? The volume kept peaking and your voice is too beautiful to have those robotic spikes in the video.
Here are some other magicians turned actors that come to mind: Passed: Fred Keating Carl Ballantine Orson Welles Harry Anderson Ricky Jay Johnny Carson Cary Grant Still living: Neil Patrick Harris Jason Alexander Steve Martin Steve Valentine There are more: might be a good topic for one of your videos which I enjoy very much. Thank you for creating this content.
In order to accept Evans' candidate, you have to toss out Marshall Smith's testimony about meeting Erdnase. Not gunna happen. Smith, who was 6 feet tall remembered looking down at Erdnase, a fairly short man. Evans' candidate was about 6 feet tall as well. He was not Erdnase.
