To the story about the inflation, in my Hometown (Singen, Hohentwiel) is a bridge that was build due the inflation in 1923. It is described as "The most expensive Bridge in the World". The Building costs are carved into the sidewalls of the bridge. It were exactly 1.520.940.901.926.024 Marks (1,5 Quadrillion!) The official Name of the Bridge is "Scheffelbrücke" named affter the German writer Joseph Victor von Scheffel who's Roman "Ekkehard" takes Place on the Mountain Hohentwiel besides the City

@@peterg.8941 How? the Weimar Republic is colloquial used to refer to a time period, what the US calls the roaring twenties or the inter-war time. And as far as I am aware, things can hail 'from' certain time periods.
Another fun fact about the hyperinflation of the '20's: The notes, which by the end of '23 were being printed on one side only to save ink and printing time, became so worthless that shopkeepers were using them as scratch paper. It was cheaper than buying notepads!

Würde ja Genugtuung empfinden, wenn es nicht so traurig wäre. Wenn das ein Schüler voraussehen konnte, kann keiner sagen, dass es nicht vorhersehbar gewesen wäre. Die Politiker müssen uns da mit Absicht reinmaneuvriert haben.
I learned some of this in my AP World History class! :D My teacher was German ( he'd tell us all the time...)- maybe that's why he spent so much time on it ... Great videos! They're very informative. I want to study in Germany someday, and love learning about it.

rewboss Did not want to offend Birmingham. But I have the feeling that it is a benefit for Germany today, that the difference between the capital and the country is not like it is in other countries. Having only one center helped France and UK to become empires, but was it good for the people? Why does Scotland want to separate today? I am quiet happy with the structure the allies gave Germany after the war.
+mkmm60 Germany has always been decentralized, since it developed over millennias from several dozen small states, each with its own capitol, government and culture (with the according cultural centres). Not even the Nazis could change that, so their efforts to centralize everything in "Germania" (the new capitol Berlin was meant to be turned into) never really acheived it. So this is no result of the Allies doing, it has always been like that.

+Apokalypse456 Er hat den größten Teil der Deutschen Nation in einem Staat vereint und Österreich war damals wohl gar nicht so unglücklich damit. Wie dem auch sei, Mit Österreich-Ungarn hätte das Kaiserreich ohnehin nicht funktioniert, dieser Vielvölkerstaat hatte zu viele interne Probleme.
ÖU hätte niemals einer nationalen vereinigung zustimmen können, wie wirkt das denn, "wir 6 millionen wollen zu unserem volk gehören ! ihr anderen gefühlte 99 % des reiches dürft aber keine nationalistischen gedanken haben ! ausserdem war ÖU auch wie du sagtest weder interessiert noch in der lage zur nationalen einigung beizutreten, das einzgie was ichd enke ist dass das nachkriegsösterreich der 20er jahre gerne dem deutschen reich beigetreten wäre, es war allerdings gemäß der pariser vorortsverträge verboten.
Genau meine Meinung! Schon Friedrich Ebert sagte ja, dass eine Vereinigung von Deutschland und Deutschösterreich anzustreben sei. Es ist derzeit anders und das hat auch seine Vorteile. Seltsam sprechende Katholiken haben nun wirklich genug in unserem Land. ;)

:D Ja. wir haben auch noch eine Rolle Inflationsgeld rumliegen. Sieht gut aus. Ist wirklich interessant, wie viel Mühe man sich mit so was wertlosem noch gegeben hat. Ich meine - wissend, dass es nichtmal das Papier wert ist auf dem es gedruckt wird und trotzdem stellt sich jemand hin und graviert die Druckplatten ordentlich - für die zwei oder drei Tage, die's benutzt wird...
Bezüglich der Geldentwertung - es gibt Bilder, wo Leute ganze Geldschubkarren herumfahren. Außerdem habe ich gehört, es wäre dann billiger gewesen das Geld zu verbrennen, als vom Geld Feuerholz zu kaufen.
+Clemens Kindermann Liegt auch daran, dass es kein Österreich als seperaten "Staat" gab... Österreich war eines der ethnischen / kulturellen / sprachlichen (wie auch immer du das definieren willst) Deutschen Territorien im HRR. Die Geschichte Österreichs als separate Geschichte von der Deutschlands beginnt letztlich also erst damit, dass Österreich (~1867) nicht dem Norddeutschen Bund unter Führung Preußens beigetreten ist. Zuvor war Österreich (wie auch Luxemburg und Liechtenstein) eine der "deutschen Nationen" im HRR. Berühmte "Österreicher" wie z.B. Mozart, die vor dieser Zeit lebten, bezeichneten sich selbst als Deutsch. Das Österreich heute kein Bundesland der BRD ist, liegt wohl in erster Linie am Vertrag von Saint-Germain nach dem 1. Weltkrieg, der den Anschluss Deutschösterreichs (so hatten sich die Gebiete des heutigen Österreichs selbst getauft) an die Weimarer Republik verboten hat. Aber ich bin sicher... Wenn die Österreicher endlich Vernunft annehmen und wieder ihrem eigentlichen Vaterland beitreten wollen, dann würde das heutzutage kein großes Problem mehr sein ;-) Vor allem müsste ich dann kein sch.... Pickerl mehr kaufen wenn ich nach Italien will :-D
das war ein bisschen komplizierter. große teile österreichs (wie auch ostpreußens) gehörten gar nicht wirklich zum reich. das waren einfach territorien von deutschen fürsten, die unter anderem auch länder innerhalb des reiches hatten, was sie aber keineswegs zu reichsterritorien machte. man kann sich das ein bisschen wie kolonien vorstellen - auch wenn der vergleich etwas hinkt.
Ich rede ja auch von Österreich in den heutigen Grenzen. Also dem deutschsprachigen Teil. Die Habsburger "Besitztümer", z.B. auf dem Balkan, beziehe ich da nicht mit ein.
Copy & Paste Productions die Bezeichnung "toll" wurde früher auch als kurzform für tollwütig benutzt da das wort tollwütig geschichtlich gesehen jünger ist. Deswegen heißt es auch "Tollkirschen" nich weil sie toll sind, sondern weil man davon halluzinationen bekommt und manche auch in einen wahn verfallen dabei ;)

"toll" hieß früher auch "irre", weshalb man Klapsmühlen auch als "Tollhaus" bezeichnete. Die Tollwut als Krankheit war im 16. Jahrhundert wohl noch nicht bekannt, weil man ja damals keine Ahnung hatte, was eine Krankheit eigebtlich ist und was sie verursacht. Von dem her hat man die Hunde vielleicht nur als "durchgeknallt" angesehen.
The representation of Luther's translation of the Bible and the German peasant rebellion(s) seems to me a bit too simplified. There was certainly a connection with the rerformation, but apart from the rebellion that took place in Thuringia, the rebellions had no specific religious character. The peasants rather demanded the restitution of their traditional rights in a time, when their burdens were extented by the nobles. And does the Bible contain a kind od of devine warranty that everyone should have enogh food and did the church and the earthly authorities did lie about this? This would be new to me. Luther - apparently rather well fed - was more preoccupied by the question how to gain God's mercy and was convinced that, among other things, strict obedience to the powers that be - but apart from the doctrines and religious practice of the Catholic church - was necessary for that purpose and didn't care so much much about the amount of food that would be left to the peasants.
To be fair - it was a list of interesting historical facts - not an in deep history of the reformation and the subsequent 30 years war... But on the other hand - if rewboss did this, I certainly would watch it in it's entirety :D He's a crazy good storyteller.

Very well explored and described. For those who want to read read in in the full detailed scale - i would advise: Germany and the Holy Roman Empire: Volume I & II, Joachim Joachim Whaley, Oxford University Press 2013 (Each part has over 700 pages but is actually a standard in english university scholarship on european history).
Your selection of the "historical facts" suggests to me that you assume your non-German viewers have no real interest in German history. However, I must admit that this is likely to apply to many of the German audience. If my English looks like a rape of the English language, then I regret that deeply. I have always been at war with the English language. :(
+rewboss Well, it's a very subjective impression. For example, the story of Karl "der Dicke" and his succession problem is about as relevant to German history as the name of Otto I's boot black. In my history lesson, as far as I can remember, his name was never mentioned. These facts seem like they were randomly selected and you do not go into detail for my taste. Well, the video is not a professional history lesson, but it still seems too arbitrary. However, I confess that it would be very costly to explain the political system of power distribution in the Holy Roman Empire in connection with the royal election. Especially since it does not fit into any category in its form and is basically unique. I do not even say that I could do that. I noticed it, because in your other videos you explain things much more accurately and I was a bit disappointed.
Well, this was a light-hearted video. It's good to do that from time to time. And there's nothing wrong with obscure or even trivial facts. They were arbitrary, but I said so in the video. All knowledge is good. And I think sometimes it's very important to remember that behind the Big Important Facts in your history books, there is far more that is strange, weird, and funny.
+rewboss I agree. What do you think of the idea of telling more about German history and how it shaped our culture. For example, why the Holy Roman Empire (German Nation) was not a central state and how it developed late. Why federalism is so important to us and we do not want to give it up, although a centralized system would have some advantages. Even many Germans do not know this and probably do not think about it because it is natural for them.
