I use as much home made and nearly-free material as I possibly can in my terrain. I've already shown you how I make my own terrain paint, glue, and use sifted soil or sand for terrain texture and strength (links below).
In this video I'll show you without cuts (well, apart from to grab a wooden spoon) how I make enough flock to last you a very long time using only house paint samplers, PVA, water and sifted sawdust gathered from the floor of my workshop.
This tip is ideal for beginners and established terrain makers and even those looking for basing tips for their miniatures. Almost every item of terrain shown on this channel will be using flock made like this.
I hope this tip proves useful and helps you save money.
terrain paint - • The Brown Stuff... Top...
terrain glue - • How about this for a s...
sand and paint - • Super cheap and effect...
sifting sawdust - • Free terrain materials...
If you are interested in making wargaming terrain for Warhammer, Age of Sigmar, Middle Earth SBG, 40k or even modern day games, this is the place for you.
The music over the intro to this video is my own, created in collaboration with a group of outstanding musicians in Reading, UK, who called ourselves Pooky.

Thank you for watching.

Nice one. I have loads of dried spent tea leaves but I use it un-stained as dead leaves underneath trees :) Thanks for your comment and support.

I wonder if a food dehydrator would be good for drying flock. One way to find out.

I just use paint and water, omitting the PVA glue. Works fine for me.

Nice quick little tutorial, exactly how I make mine. Are you branching into gardening videos now as I notice you have ‘green fingers’ 😁

Haha I did quite a nice little garden for Rosie's Hobbit Hole, yet I'm still building my confidence up to do the photo-etch sunflowers :D

Great video, what kind of paint are you using?
@BeardClipper

Thanks very much! It is normal water based acrylic house paint; I buy small samplers for next to nothing from the local DIY shop :)

Hi. Love all your videos. One question, why the PVA glue ?
@BeardClipper
@BeardClipper 4 года назад
Thanks man - appreciate the comment, and support. The PVA helps it to adhere to the sawdust, in my experience... so paint on its own stains but doesn't seal. With PVA (and if you can get water-proof PVA, all the better) you'll have far less bleed when you make use of the flock on your board and seal it down. I hope that helps?

@@BeardClipper Thanks man. I hope you keep making more How To videos. Specially this kind. I've been trying to make some decent mud without real success ...if you ever feel like tackling this one ;)

Yeah I have plans for lots of shorter "how to" and "beginners tips" videos :) i've got a few backed up already recorded... My aim is that Thursday will be mainly about those type of videos, with the longer ones on Tuesdays.. Hmmm OK I'll add that to the list and see what I can come up with :) cheers for the support and comments - much appreciated.

Wonder how that would work on duck decoys.
@BeardClipper
@BeardClipper 3 года назад
Hmmmm not sure; you'd probably want to seal it with non-water based varnish as the water based paint would just wash off? Give it a go! it may well work :) thanks for the comment.

What is pba ?????
@BeardClipper
@BeardClipper 5 месяцев назад
PVA? It's commonly called "wood glue" :)
@alistairbain6149
@alistairbain6149 2 года назад
Why do you add PVA? Thanks 😊
@BeardClipper
@BeardClipper 2 года назад
It seals it in and makes it slightly more colour-fixed so when you apply the flock with more PVA the paint doesn't straight away reactivate and bleed out of the flock. Thank you for watching and for your question.
