Had my 2011 from new and still love it. Reliable, easy to maintain yourself, and perfect for the long distance enduro riding my club does here in the Aussie bush. Lost count of how many other bikes I've towed back to camp.
@@marksmith7503 The only riding I do, and have ever done, is 2 to 4 hours enduro style riding with my club through 3600 hectares os Aussie bush. Always chasing, pathetically, at least five CR500's. So the answer is a yes.
I love my raptor it definitely pays for its self in easy maintenance an reliability an the power never gets old . An you are right about the plastics they skuff up easy.
Probably the best performance sport quad ever built. Be sure to run full synthetic 10w40 engine oil only! Mobil1 4T racing 10w40 is excellent according to Cuervo Racing & avail in automotive parts places for $9.99. Maxima Pro Plus is awesome too.
I have the new 2022 raptor 700r and I like it quite actually! Can ride around the neighborhood without complaints and can ride at night without being that annoying dude.
I had straight pipe exhaust that had inserts to change both power and loudness pretty much. Wide open was earthshaking but also made it wicked fast with the programmer.
You look to be about 180-190ish pounds. Try this suspension setup. It's what I use and there is zero bump steer, walk, etc. Works fantastically! Front- Rebound- 9 out, Compression- 18 out Rear- Rebound- 6 out, Compression- 14 out
@@howardroark9 Shock settings do nothing to change geometry, not even ride height. The geometry is determined by the arm length, spindles, arm mounts, tierod mounting. For minimal bumpsteer, the tierod and spindle have to move in similiar arcs throughout the travel, bumpsteer pretty much is what it is from the factory design, unless you start redoing the chassis engineering/build custom frame. On cars I have heard of shimming the tierod ends to reduce bumpsteer a little when ride height is changed. I think most quads have a small amount of it. Polaris used to have a design that pretty much eliminated it, called PRO steering if i recall right.
@@howardroark9 Preload settings can obviously change ride height, but also can affect the rake (angle of frame) which could change your effective caster a tiny bit. And could also change your swingarm angle a little and antisquat. How much that matters for most people, probably not much. Probably more important in supersport bikes with 100+hp.
If you want a good sounding exhaust without being absurdly loud go with the yoshimura RS2. I have one on my 2018 yfz450r that’s street legal here in West Virginia and I haven’t gotten any complaints or pulled over by the cops for it being to loud but it does sound pretty good!
@@FunGoingFast yes a vortex is almost a must have for these newer yfzr’s. The other fuel controllers like PC5 and MSD piggyback off the stocK ECU which is tune very lean to meet epa regulations whereas the vortex completely replaces the stock ECU. The difference from stock to vortex is phenomenal and it really makes the quad run like it’s supposed to. I was quite disappointed when I bought my 2018 yfzr but my mind was changed as soon as I put that vortex in the quad. No more low end bog and the throttle response is flawless with the vortex. It makes it a completely different quad! I know they are expensive but they are worth every penny!
Oh I forgot this was a video on the raptor lol. Either way when you start changing stuff that changes the airflow like exhaust and intake you should always use a fuel controller bc when you add air you have to add fuel or you’ll be running the engine lean and that’s one of the worst things you can do for these engines.
Wait you have a street legal 4wheeler lol I'm in wheeling btw was kinda wanting to get one my side by side was stolen but I'd like to get either 450 billet edition or a raptor 700 just trying to find a good year tho
@@dannyzavolta1231 yeah man totally legal to register and license quads and SXS in West Virginia. If I were you and you were only wanting it for street use only I’d go with the raptor. I love ripping my 450r around town but it doesn’t like to be going 55-60 mph for very long bc it has such short gears and runs at high revs. The raptor platform would be your best option unless your planning also riding/racing off roads also then I’d probably pick the 450. I’m planning on making a street legal raptor 700 once I get the money up.
Lol…yea tho’s are def a stretch for not to own one. I think some ppl misinterpreted the vid…doesn’t mean you hate the raptor. I can think of one more…not for beginners. I would never put my wife on a raptor to learn. I have a Z400, but would love to step up to a Raptor. I rode a 660 once like 20yrs ago, but that was it.
Thanks for understanding. And agreed, 100%. Someone bought this one as a first time atv to ride around their neighborhood. and realized that was a mistake. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I understand some people do not recommend these for beginners ,but I'm not exactly a beginner . I have a Yz250f i'm planning on getting rid of and though about getting one of these , i've ridden quads before but never owned one . What do you say ? Great Video by the way !
Thanks! I think you would be fine. And you have a concept of what too much throttle can do. Its certainly not uncontrollable. But it would certainly get someone in trouble who wouldn’t respect it. Of course any machine can do that. But the low end grunt and ergonomics make it pretty amazing on the trails and really comfortable. I grew up riding dirt bikes and once i switched to sport quads I never wemt back. Good luck!
Bought a brand new 06 back in the day. Put it on its side once and it cracked to subframe. They were 7000 back then and were still easy to break. Apparently
I did the clutch, exhaust, tires, rims, handle bars, siding, shifter, air filter, tuning, sprockets, and many other performance upgrades. Some don’t believe me you can get a little over 100 MPH out of a Raptor 700R. Yea I built the engine on mine also. Thing is extremely loud, rips dirt in the air like when a speed boat accelerates splashing water high up in the air. Fuckin fast!!!!
sounds like a honda 50 step thru..why don't they put the MT 07 twin cyl motor in them they sound cool & then you could have twin pipes hanging out the back that would look awesome & sell them new with those axle & suspension mods you recommended already fitted ..Now that would be fun right ?
@@FunGoingFast lol thanks, I was quite shocked when I found it honestly. I scratched my head and was like "man who would leave something like this here and why?" And I pushed it out to the trail cabin and the guys there said nobody reported it missing or that they were looking for it so I brought it home and cleaned it and fixed it up
Am really wondering if I should extend my rear axle ; I think it’ll be better for hill climbing , but I think it would be bad for tight trails.. Anyone please comment ..
I agree with those results. Unless you are doing really steep climbs I would be reluctant to do that. Raptors can be a bit tippy already and this would decrease handling and turning ability and make it more of a one trick pony. most people widen them verses extending to improve the handling. Good luck.
Aside from reason 3, the only other legitimate reason to not buy one which i dont know how you missed is the discontinuation of a digital speedometer, considering how many states and local municipalities are now legalizing atv use on roadways i'm surprised that the fed govt hasnt mandated them to be built with speedometers and turnsignals
I have mentioned the digital speedometer in other vidieos, including comparing my 2009 that had one with this one. If you read about it, in 2013, they tried to drop the price a little bit and one of the cost savings was getting rid of the Speedometer. I agree it should be brought back. And I would say the legitimate reasons vary depending on the person, so this is my opinion of things people should be aware of when purchasing it.
This is the first time i have ever heard dont wash something when its cooler out. So for real it needs to be 70 degrees or the fairings will turn white???
Ive had 3 blue Yamahas, 07 Wolverine, 09 Raptor and a 2020 Raptor that would all get white streaks if I washed them when it was low 60s or cooler. It was sunny and 50s in this video and the red plastics did the exact same thing. Ive never had that problem with any other manufacturer. Weird but it is consistent.
Good point. I may do wheel spacers on the front and an extended rear axle at some point. I had an extended rear axle on my 09 Raptor and it was a significant improvement. I really like the extended front A arms but I dont ride enough to justify the cost.
So is there some sort of new plastic material or something that don't get scratched when a stick hits it? Kind of pointless to complain about something that can't be fixed or is the same as everything else out there unless there's something you know that I don't?
@@FunGoingFast go whack a stick on any motorized vehicle and it's going to get scratched maybe complain that if a nail goes in your tire it will make your tire flat? That's a good one
You forgot the "unboxing and assembly fees and on top of ALL those fees they make sure they tax you".. more like 13,500-14,000 OTD. I just bought mine.
There is no way in hell I would pay that for a raptor or any quad for that matter. Resale sucks ass so does trade in . I was going to buy a 700 or 450 but I really can't see paying that for something that is only for woods .can't use them for nothing else. Paid 6000k for my 400 ex back in 09 ..I know things went up but Holy shit
Fair question. The other ones Id owned were from 2009 and earlier. I figured by 2020 they had figured it out. Plus Yamaha blue is the best color in my opinion. Ive owned yellow (suzuki), red (Polaris and Can Am) and black(Polaris) and have only ever had that issue with Yamaha blue. So its something with their manufacturing process specifically.
I disagree. And no new Raptor costs $10k. That is the sticker price and with tax and extra fees you are lucky if it's under $13k. If you are comfortable with that I say have at it. But my opinion is that is too expensive. As are a lot of things these days.
How come you didn't rev it a bit when you started it?? Would have been easy enough and given much more understanding to the viewer. Nobody really cares what it sounds like at IDLE but more important is the sound when riding with a few revs under its belt. Time for a vid re-do?
I actually have several other videos of the exhaust including a comparison with an HMF I installed on my 2009 Raptor, and comparisons on the Raptor factory to HMF and YFZ 450 to HMF if you want to check those out.
Well if your light weight , lower the suspension i did on my 2018 yz250f and it makes a world of difference for slow riding and turning . Lower the center of gravity and learn to lean , its a quad
Im well aware how to lean. And I dont ride slow. And lowering the suspension also kills the travel. Which is needed where I ride. Raptors are known to have a higher center of gravity. Its called physics.
What ???? Ok so why did u buy it if it's too much ? And it's and atv / ya ride off road it's gonna scratch lol.. and the white marks are from the fender being bent .. heat gun will turn it back to blue .. ya crazy man
1) I didnt buy it new so I didn’t pay that prixe. Im referring to if you did buy it new. 2) Those marks are from washing with cold water. This atv has never been rolled. I watched the mark appear as I was washing it and have seen it happen many times with other Yamahas Ive owned. It is a common thing and only happnes with the purplish blue (oem plastic color name).
Legitimate reasons not to buy the 700: It’s RWD which means is not great for rocky and steep terrain The rear suspension is not fully independent so it is not as comfortable There’s no room for cargo or additional fuel
Your clearly not a sport qaud guy. Bring up rwd? No independent rear suspension? Thats what makes it a fast and light. Manufacturers have try to make a independent suspension sport quads and failed (Honda , kawi, Polaris) raptor for the win!
This dude is just complaining besides the price. You don't Buy new shoes and expect them to be new expectantly if you wear them. The clutch throw is long but look at cuervoatv RU-vid and you'll know why most aftermarket clutch handle is bad for the raprot. If you want something for the track get a yfz450. The raprot does got a narrow stance and you should know what you want before you make this kind of investment
Im always fascinated by the aggressive negative reactions from this video. No machine is perfect and design is about trade offs. Making something good in one area will generally take away from another area. Its why we have emtire industries based on reviewing products. Cars, stereos, tools, bicycles etc. i love Yamaha and the Raptor but Im willing to acknowledge areas where it may not be perfect so people can be aware before dropping $12,000. Ive always heard Tesla fan boys were hostile to criticism. Thanks for watching.
If you did watch it you will see I did say that I love the Raptor and its my favorite atv, but its not perfect. If I named it “a few things to be aware of on a great quad” no one would click on it. And its not perfect so I just wanted to share my thoughts on some issues or areas of improvement”. I have a review of it that talks about all the strengths and it only has 5k views and this has 94k views so its clear what people are more interested in hearing about.
ITS A FOUR WHEELER, thdy are supposed to get scuffed up, they are rugged enough to deal with a scratch, and also its cheap to replace the plastics, that's why its plastic, if you have a problem with how a four wheeler is made, then why are you buying them? 😑😐😑
Where did I say they have to be dirt proof? There is a difference in havimg durability over time verses saying it cant get dirty. Its interesting how many people are bothered by my comments. You guys need to increase your standards. These things are $14k out the door now. That price comes with higher expectations. Or it should.
This Mann really made a video telling five reason not to buy a raptor 😂😂😂.. so what he expect gonna change after this ? So what do you want people to buy ? A damn grizzly 😂😂hell nawl
I never said it was hard to ride. If you watch the full video I said this is my favorite ATV and I sold my others because I liked it so much. Just pointing out some of the things that are limitations as all ATVs have them. Im fascinated by how riled up everyone has gotten. No machine is perfect. Thanks for watching.
Lets talk about the fact that your opinion was invalidated by the pristine condition of your raptor.... You have NEVER ridden that thing... Look at it... Its brand new out the box... LMFAO!!!!!
Because I take care of my machine it means Im invalidated? Thats an interesting theory. Also who said this was the only Raptor Ive owned? I didnt. Also, there’s nothing I mentioned that’s not an objective fact. It is fascinating the responses that I’ve gotten on this video. Thanks for adding to my engagement statistics. LMFAO as you said.
