Five Reasons Why You Need to Grow Sunflowers In Your Garden

In this video, I delve into one of my absolute favorite plants to put in the garden. Nothing says summer to me like seeing a big, bright sunflower open from the middle of the garden. I highly encourage everyone, if you have to space available, definitely grow these. The type shown in the video are the Mammoth variety. I grow for seeds. You dont have to grow the 12 foot tall ones though, you can absolutely grow dwarf varieties that barely break knee high or also different color varieties that are meant to be looked at, not eaten.
I got my seeds here:

Yes!! Sunflowers will rejuvenate worn out soil! It is a great cover crop! I grow them all over my farm, amending the soil with my horse manure compost. They not only attract bees, but also attract aphids, which keeps aphids off of other veggies where you don't want them!

Great video! I love growing sunflowers and buy black oil seeds by the bag full on the cheap meant for bird seed. They also are delicious and lucrative to sell as baby micro-greens at farmer’s markets or on your dinner table. So many wonderful uses for these versatile plants, from food and fats to cut flowers and pollinator attractors. They are a fantastic addition to any garden but make sure to verify compatibility as some veggies don’t make good companions. Nice job, thank you for posting!

First time grower of Mammoth variety sunflowers. You aren't kidding about the pollinators they bring into the garden. I have loved seeing that! I heard that you can burn the stalks at the end of the season and you get potash for the garden. Have you heard that before? Semper Fi !
@PalmettoPrepared
@PalmettoPrepared 10 месяцев назад
They do collect a ton of minerals as they grow because of the deep taproot so if you burn or compost, you'll see those minerals in your soil. Burning almost anything plant wise will increase potassium and phosphorus to some extent but sunflowers will only mine so much. You're better off adding a few hardwood logs in the fire too. Semper Fi!

Trying sunflower stem flour this year. I'm using a tupperware lettuce cutter to extract the white foam from inside the stem, drying, grinding, ready for baking. Also, the flower head holds more than the stem. Just another resource, to better utilise your food growing.
@PalmettoPrepared
@PalmettoPrepared Год назад
Sounds like that would that just be cellulose. Like eating straight up sawdust. Probably not the best for your gut but not overly harmful. You'd be better off feeding the stalks to a ruminate animal or even a pig as they can actually get the nutrients out of that

🌻🌻It is often seen as a symbol of faith and devotion, radiating positivity and hope. In some Eastern religions, such as Buddhism, sunflowers are considered sacred and represent spiritual enlightenment. Their ability to turn towards the sun is seen as a metaphor for the human quest for enlightenment and self-realization.🌻🌻
