@@JeremyFieldingSr thanks for the vid! To get that "joy" of holding the DC Motor - you first had to buy a deep well socket set. I got the treadmill apart after I bought a used socket set and drill bit set ($60). Now to finally get the motor off - I need that deep well socket set. I suppose I could try finding just some old skool cresent wrenches.

@@voidisyinyangvoidisyinyang885 The good thing about that is that you only have the buy the tools once. Then you can use them to take hundreds of motors out of treadmills for free!

I made a clothes dryer with my treadmill. Basically all I did was take my still functional treadmill and place wet laundry on it to dry. Works perfectly. Not only does the laundry dry without using any electrical power but it also creates a barrier between me and the treadmill so that I never use it for its intended purpose. Because I never break a sweat this also reduces the amount of laundry I’m required to do. It’s a rather ingenious design if I do say so. Only flaw I can see is that my clothing appears to be shrinking... (btw, great video man, I love your stuff. you’re probably one of the coolest dads ever)

LOL.! About 15 years ago, the crazy ex-wife wanted a treadmill, so I went out bought a nice big & heavy expensive one. When I pulled around the back of the warehouse to load it on to my truck, the guy at the loading dock said to me, "That's going to be the most expensive clothes hanger you'll ever buy". And boy, was he right. I never seen her use it & clothes were always hanging on it.

I discovered your videos on electric motors for beginners a few days ago. I’ve watched several more since then including the one where you, uncomfortably, answered viewer questions about you personally. I’m so impressed with your teaching skills, subject matter expertise, and the fact that you are a totally self-made person. But what continues to impress me the most is how unselfish, humble, and generous you are. It really hit home with this video. Show me a person with great kids and I’ll show you a great person. You have great kids.

Lol. I made my wife watch your videos! I wanted her to see that I was not the only person who does/enjoys this! When the "joy detected" icon popped up on a disassembly video I said, "See! Somebody else gets excited by free linear actuators!" She just rolled her eyes and walked off. My father was the king of this sort of thing and I inherited it from him. I haven't been able to do much due to health in recent years. But for years our yard at Halloween was a scroungers paradise. Example. Old ceiling fans used to make ghosts circle under trees, Barbie jeep motors used to make flying crank ghosts, the mechanism from a shiatsu massager used to make moving eyes under a rubber mask, old laboratory vial agitators made spiders bounce up and down. Thanks for the videos!

Following a second head injury, I struggle with the things that I used to do. Some self-designed rehab had me helping in a cabinet shop. The owner told me to replace the bearings on a dust collector. I had no clue how to do so, but that was my entrance into the mechanical side of life. Most of his machinery is aging and needs TLC. Between using, fixing, and maintaining his equipment, my dream shop has ballooned in size and scope. As I looked at the price of the machinery and compared it to the knowledge I've gained, I'm astounded at what seems like a huge inflation of cost to produce to the sticker price. I've wanted to build a sander with my old treadmill, but my concept is to use it to feed the material while making a wide-belt sanding mechanism with a platten above. Belts are more expensive than wrapping a drum, but they are much less prone to snagging and tearing. In addition, switching grits is simple and quick. My question to you is, "How could you achieve oscillation without needing to resort to pneumatics and sensors?" I came upon your channel while looking to learn about electric motors. Wonderful information, practical, and delivered in a manner that leaves the watcher without any fear of the subject matter. As a 15+ year teacher with multiple degrees in education, I would commend you on your teaching style. Using RU-vid as your classroom is most probably a better venue than the public school classroom. You have complete control over your curriculuum, students who want to be there, and no administrator/political mandates to wrestle against. Keep your inquisitive drive and sharing nature. People like yourself are the path to righting the disdain for learning that has become entirely too commonplace. Best wishes going forward and thanks for helping me begin to learn again.

Very creative, never let anyone tell you that you can't do something... It will just inspire a guy like you to prove them wrong. The hardest thing is deciding what you want to focus on what the benefits will be opposed to the detriments because every invention is like a double-edged sword. It can be used for good and bad you need to take that into account every time you create something.

By far one of the most impressive repurposed videos I've ever seen !!! All I've ever made with a treadmill is a video riding a bicycle on in ( didn't fail ) . I'm 53 and have been a carpenter my entire life . I can't do any of these projects due to my electronic ignorance . You weren't bragging one bit and these achievements are nothing short of miraculous !!! The people who gave you a thumb down are angry about your rowing video game set up . While your clocks are my favorite , this way of playing should be mandatory for children under 16 !!!!!

That is definitely a challenge. In general If I can't think of at least 2 things I might do with a part in the next 6 months I throw it away. Not "ever do with a part"... Jeremy, could you show us how to remove the bearings to keep them in a usable state please? You showed in the video that they could be reused. I have looked for videos, but you haven't made one, and I couldn't find others. There are videos of removing seized ones, is it the same process. I would love it if you could make a video showing the process and how you reuse them. I personally need them for a wheel for my belt sander (that I made myself). I was inspired to make it watching you make all your projects. You gave me the confidence to try, and I was surprised how well it turned out.

Hi Jeremy, I wanted to let you and your fans know that I was inspired to check Craiglist where I found someone giving away their treadmill! I picked it up. I don't know what I will end up doing with it. I think one or more of the bearings that support the shafts for the belt is worn. It makes noises and the belt tends to slide off to the side. If it's an easy fix my wife will have a treadmill, and if not, then I have some motors to play with! :D Thanks for the inspiration!

Although my project wasn't quite as inspired as yours I made a wall clock from a 1948 Utah licence plate. I had several cell phones that I'd disassembled. I used an old battery powered clock motor and hands and with copper wire for the 3, 6, 9 and 12. I then made an abstract art deco clock face on the license plate. It was really fun and cool. I don't see this going as well as you think it will. 1 week later: "You row!" "No *you* row!" " *YOU* row!!" "DAAAAD *_insert kid's name_ * won't row!!"

I've always said we could close down all the factories for 5 years and just use the stuff that's already built and thrown away. You sir are doing God's work. Keep it up. You just gained another subscriber.

Just love how happy your family is rowing and playing the video games. True joy on your kids faces and they will treasure their relationship with you forever. There minds have been opened so much and will go far in life. Congrats. And the reuse of junked equipment is inspiring. Thank you for sharing your talents. How much electrical knowledge do you have that allows you to build the things that you did?

Best dad ever! That is so different than what I expected. I'd always wanted my children to use a stationary bike to power the television, but I never had children. You are awesome!
