Dear, Mr. P. I completely appreciate that you're trying to showcase a range of clothes from your collections and it’s difficult to appeal to everyone’s style. I also echo the thoughts below and have much love for this series, so please: show us outfits that we can actually wear in the real world. It’s a hard balance between inspiration vs. practicality, and that’s why we trust you to do it.
First of all, really happy that this series is back. More please, and also 'The Way I Dress'. Secondly, only look #1 for me. None of the others - at all. I had to laugh out loud about concern in that one look that the neck was exposed but unconcerned that the ankles were bare. But... glad to have the series back.
I know it's the fashion these days, but all the jackets are far too short. Not keen on many of the looks personally. Also, what domenico said, never ever wear a belt with a suit/tuxedo - basically says your trousers don't fit properly, and breaks up the whole flow of the outfit
While i don't mind the length of the jacket, i do agree that a belt should never be worn with a tuxedo. Your trousers should stay up without them, visit your tailor accordingly. Like if you ate too much during Thanksgiving and you gained 5lbs, lol.
I agree, never wear a belt. It may be a little old fashion but I feel if you are wearing a tuxedo, classic is perfect. someone may try a cummerbund, or suspenders.
+Mark Richardson The sad fact is that tuxedo trousers shouldn't even have belt loops, but sadly modern fashion houses seem to throw away the necessary rules of black tie. I completely agree about jacket length-a barathea wool tuxedo with the correct length could last a lifetime-these tuxedos will barely last beyond next season.
Tuxedos aren't really relevant for me at the moment, but I love that the series is back! My top 3 favorite on here together with The Way I Dress and The Way I Pack!
I love it. The next Jaqueobim Mugatu over here is wearing a white Polo shirt with a rolex sub......Really pushing the envelope with that "old white guy who shops at macy's" look eh dan? Although i can't see his pants - so he might be wearing neon chaps or something.
In some of the earlier "five ways to wear", you focused on their look from head to foot and showed what style of shoes would go with each outfit. You didn't do that with this one except whether to wear dress shoes with or without socks, how about a redo of this segment from a head to foot profile including what shoes are worn with each look. They do say shoes make the outfit.
Are any of these styles supposed to be Black Tie? If so, only the First style even comes close but still falls short with the wrong waistcoat design, use of a belt instead of suspenders and the jacket fit is off. The other Four "outfits" don't even pretend to follow Black tie convention, maybe that is your intention?
The leopard print and double breasted were acceptable, the jackets were too small on the other 3 looks. Shoes without socks may be fashionable, but it just makes me cringe.
I am a believer in the saying "You are the best dressed when you are not noticed for how you dress" .... Every one of these combinations are a joke. I will stick with a more traditional look
aww man, so much hate towards the looks. Guys, if you are familiar with this series then you would know that Mr. Dan May is very contemporary with his looks. He monitors the trends very well and is adapting to it. Yes it may not work for everyone but still it's a very modern approach. Change is the only constant.
+Zane Gan I think the issue with Mr May is that he is meddling with a concept that doesn't require meddling-there's a reason why dress codes exist, and it's because traditional black tie and white tie are the most elegant and sophisticated outfits a man could hope to wear. I quite like some of his more casual five ways to wear, such as the one featuring the navy blazer, but in terms of black tie, you have to follow the rules as close as possible to achieve the desired result. Yes, you can experiment in some departments, such as the pocket square and the material choices with options such as velvet, but a well-proportioned, traditional black tie ensemble will look good both now and in 100 years time -sadly his choices will not stand the test of time so well.
1st look: It's ok overall, but I don't like the sewn-on lapels 2nd look: Completely messed-up, who in the world wears a dinner jacket with a pair of sweatpants? 3rd look: A t-shirt? a f*cking t-shirt?!?!?!?!? 4th look: Not so bad of a look but it shouldn't be called a tuxedo 5th look: This guy should be fired! What the hell is that jacket? And the pants? Those pants are horrible!
