I am a native Floridian and about 10 years ago I started keeping a box fan or a tower fan going in my bathroom almost all day everyday and it reduces how much I have to clean and my towels don't get stinky

I finally had some spare evening time to come and watch your new video. I'm glad to see you again and looking no worse for wear! You say you've taken a slower pace in life but you're working on the house way more than 30-years-old-me does 😂 what a cozy environment you built for yourself, I especially love those stained glass windows. This is a really pertinent subject and something I've been looking into, the whole energy efficiency vs ventilation subject seems quite complicated and new solutions are emerging all the time and (sometimes) getting cheaper and easier too ! I was about to say how smart your new Red livery was, even though I loved the previous cream & green, but then you explained the change, good for you, nice to have a refresh ! Just bought this one today. Seems good deal and great reviews. Generally, for a bit of clay, electronic board and cheap fan, these devices are criminally expensive (often 500 EUR)

That's very curious, I've never seen a heat recovery ventilator with only two ports (one indoor and one outdoor). Usually the ones I see have four ports (two indoor and two outdoor) so as to support a continuous, pressure balanced flow. With only two ports, you'd have alternating high and low pressure within the conditioned space, which would cause drafts to leak conditioned air out and pull unconditioned air in, respectively. That would really make it only 50% efficient at best.

I am glad to see you are back Harry. This winter has been extremely rainy in the eastern US. In the area where i live many of us are overwhelmed with water issues. It is best to stay on top of those issues. Best wish to you and Happy New Year to you and your family 😊
Great to see you again. A useful idea, I will get one. My workshop is so damp, brick & stone, no damp course and the dehumidifier can't keep up, tools rusting.
Hi Harry! It's always so very good to see you!! 🎉 You've been keeping yourself busy! I love the red you painted your workshop/shed ❤ Did you use marine grade paint? It's super glossy! Thank you for this video! My house was builtin 1930. The bathroom 6'x9' (6' is along north side center of house). The only ventilation is a small double hung window over the tub which runs lengthwise across the north 6' wall. Opening the window in winter is ot/ an option! I didn't know there are apparatus's out there like this heat exchanger. It makes sense! The hood/ventilator inside your bathroom looks minimal. Is your heat exchanger on an outside wall, and if so, did you need to build a box on the outside of your house to accommodate the depth of ventilator like you did on the inside of your shed? Never mind the silly last question.
Great to see you back Harry. I deal with a lot with mechanical ventilation heat recovery systems at work. The company who makes the one you've installed claims to achieve up to 90% efficiency. In my experience even the very expensive commercial systems only claim up to 75% efficiency. But whatever you put in will be worth it regardless of the true efficiency - a regular extractor fan is 0% efficient of course.
The temperatures at which the heat recovery efficiency is rated are important too. We used to deal with a recuperative-type HRV that was rated 80 per cent efficiency between an indoor temp. of 23degC and an outdoor temp of -20degC. But over the actual typical winter temperature range at which it was being used (9am to 4pm: indoor 20degC; outdoor typ. 10degC) the measured heat recovery efficiency was less than 10 per cent.
40y ago our Lancashire factory made cooker hood extractors. I did see a design that used aluminium foil that had a concertina pathway folds so that the extract air was kept separate to the incoming air and the foil transferred the heat across; sorry I have no data about how effective it was, but it was cheap to make. Here is ENERGY loss thought I have had for many years, toilet cisterns fill up with cold water and they warm up the water to room temperature and the tank sweats and drips THEN you flush out that warm water SILLY but I suppose it is better to have a faster flush rather than waiting for the tank to fill and then flush.

Hello..yes it is so much better and I an very pleased I did this. I do slightly wonder what would have happened if I had simply installed air vents to get air flow...a lot cheaper, but I am very happy with the result.
