Fix Aftermarket Dpads Easily!

I use Post it notes. Stack up about 4-5 pieces of 'post it' note papers then hole punch the adhesive part. They all stick together nicely, without being overly sticky and the bottom piece sticks the punched out stack to the circuit board. Test and punch out as many as you need for your desired thickness, depending on your preferred sensitivity. Although I am sure the paper may wear after awhile, so far I've used it for a few months and it seems fine, plus easy to replace when needed. Also made paper donuts with post it notes under the dpad ring, for added pressure sensitivity. Works effortlessly like the OEM dpad did back in the day.

I've seen boards that were really worn down from that little ball on the dpad...the gameboy that I have is fairly worn down too...I wonder if doing this just to fill in the crater in the board might help the feel of the dpad on mine....hmmm

What I do is get gorilla glue or a dab of super glue and put it on the DPad nub itself. Let it cure for 24 or 48 hours and then reinstall it. Basically making up the additional space and its still a rounded blob on the end. Feels exactly like the OEM and then you don't have to modify the original PCB :D

Realizing this is a few years old at this point, but still relevant. I don't think that the cause of this is always the D-Pad specifically. It can also be from a custom shell or after market housing. I've used stock D-Pads from OEM Gameboys in after market shells and this problem still exists. So in case someone is running into this issue and is actually using OEM D-Pads, the case itself is probably the issue and not actually the D-Pad.

like your videos man, I have a problem with my gameboy color. You know the cross button, well I don't know the name of it but the right arrow doesn't work. I open it and I clean the connectors and that didn't help. you think I need to replace the board?. thank you

Great video! Works great with GBC, but I have issues with the aftermarket dmg D-pads too and this doesn’t help. The diagonal directions aren’t working and I can’t figure it out!

Say I wanted to make the dpad digital or clicky like on the gba sp, how might i mod that into a gameboy?

I saw your previous video. The aftermarket D-pad issue was the only thing that kept me from buying the limited Pokemon shell. Question, does is feel OEM, or does the fix make the D-pad stiff?

You have so much impressive mods and stuff but there are weird stuff fixing a. Game boy colour with corn starch and giving game boy colour a double screen what is impressive but also a bit weird as well like I’ve seen people make. Double screened game boys like the um, double screened gba!.

Why not just use the original dpad instead of altering the pcb like that... I never had a donor board that doesn't come with dpads or broken dpads anyway.
