When you are renovating you never know what is behind a wall. What if you find electrical wires that are just connected together with wire nuts behind the wall? This is known as an open splice. It is not allowed by electrical code. All splices need to be in an approved junction box and accessible. In this video I show you how to use the Rack-a-Tiers Open Splice Junction Box to enclose an open splice, securely attach it to a stud, and make it accessible in a finished wall. Now your work will be code compliant. Thanks to @RackATiers for supplying the box for this video.

To the strongly worded negative comments: I did say in the video that the ideal solution would be to rewire and then cover it with drywall. But that isn’t practical in some cases. Yes, a junction box would work if you were left enough cable to properly do that. Unfortunately sometimes you aren’t left with enough sheathing to get 1/4” inside the cable clamp of a device box with both cables. This provides an alternative that many may not be aware is available. It is unfortunate that the cover needs to be large, but we haven’t been bothered by it in our house and if it is in a ceiling then it is even less noticeable. Thanks for watching.

Put an old work box wire everything in the box and put a blank plate on it. Significantly faster, cheaper, and is up to code. Correct me if I’m wrong internet.

True, but the advantages to this one is the metal protection plates on both ends, and you don't have to disconnect the wires to put them in the box saving some time. Those are the only advantages I can see.

Double-stick tape is not a long-term solution. I’d use glue.

Call a licensed electrician.....bs putting a giant plastic panel on your wall....especially if sheetrock is removed.....fix it correctly

This is the stupidest thing I've ever seen. If you can't re-pull the wire, why wouldn't you just use a single gang J box with a blank faceplate over it? Likely a lot cheaper, and doesn't leave a gigantic wart on your wall.

The more “advanced “ we become the more idiotic our solutions. Old work box with a blank cover would have been so much quicker and less obvious.

Holy shit this is the worst product ever. Why not just add an outlet instead... or properly splice them

This is a ridiculous solution to a simple issue!

TBH, I think the spliced wires were a better fix than what he just did. Personally, I would have used automotive butt wire connectors, some heat shrink, self fusing silicone tape, and then finish it up with some good quality high temperature electrical stretch tape.

You can't have spliced wires that aren't in their jacket inside of a wall if they are not enclosed in an electrical box.
