I had been suffering from really bad lower back pain. I believe it was muscle related. I would get terrible shooting pains if I walked a lot and literally collapse in agony as if I had been stabbed. Started rowing just over three years ago and after a few months felt definite improvement. Within 6 months totally pain free even if I walk all day. Put it down to the Concept2 rower. Best decision ever to take up rowing. It gave me back my life.

I had a herniated disc, might be commonly due to weak core and lack of spine flexibility. So I strengthen core AND stretch my legs, hips, core, and shoulders! This is of course after my health care professional says its ok AND strongly encouraged!

Thanks Shane for ALL the content (I've watched >50 videos so far!). Finally got a C2 last Friday and logged 6 sessions for a total 80 minutes already (4 days later) and really learning the form/teq and stretching. Really appreciate it!

Damn! Are you reading my mind?! I was just going to research rowing with scoliosis/lower back pain after following you for awhile now. I’ve been doing a lot of lower back release/correction exercises prior to all my workouts but can’t wait to help my back while rowing. Strong core is key! Thanks!

Great video - I love the drills and positioning explanations - it really makes sense! Cut the Cake drill is my new favorite! Thanks for the great videos ! I wish I could get my husband on the rower as I really think it would help his back. :)

Thank you for putting this out. Without a trainer next to me, I had no idea whether or not my technique was good. I’m struggling with mid to upper back pain. I assumed it was because my muscles weren’t built up enough yet. No mid or upper back pain with this workout… we’ll see on my next 20 min row if I’m good to go!

I've been doing your beginners 20min workout and the intermediate 30min fat burning workout, but finding my lower back pain was getting worse and worse, so grateful for this video !

Always be smart and let pain be your guide. Anything that causes pain should be analyzed and corrected ASAP. So happy this is helping.

@@DarkHorseRowing Do you know anyone who's had a few back surgeries and are still rowing? This looks perfect for me but I do have some back pain, I'm thinking that any *extra* pain is bad but what I'm living with is ok. I need core strength and have used an erg (concept 2)before and want to do it again. I'll be checking with my surgeon to be sure it's ok, but do you know anyone who's had surgery successfully row again!

I have very tight hamstrings, and when sat on the machine with my legs straight I can't get any further forward than the 11 o'clock position. This video has been useful as I realize I've probably been leaning a bit far back during my normal strokes, but I assume when I'm doing my strokes and in this drill I should allow my legs to bend a little to be able to rotate my hips forward, rather than bending my back. Is that right?

Lately, I have been rowing with my feet unstrapped. Is there any downside to this? Obviously, I'm staying on the rower and I believe I am using good form.
