Fix Checking For Updates Continuously Windows 7 , 8 , 8 1, 10 

Thank you so very much! There are now 177 important updates installing on my computer. Been trying for 2 months after my last reformat. I'm running 64 bit windows 8.1, followed step by step and at first I didn't think it worked because the updates didn't populate like they did on your video. Looked away for a bit and low and behold there they were!! You're the best!

After 6 months of frustration, windows update is finally working thanks to you. I followed the first 4 steps, but it was step 5 that worked for me. Thank you so much. Subscribed!

Wow, after struggling for many hours, and even returning one PC which wouldn't update, I used the solutions here. This is an excellent video, which saved me lots of time and grief. Just be sure that you first turn off windows update, reboot, and then install the first three KB patches. I am very grateful for this RU-vid contribution. I am sure that there are many people buying refurbished PC's with Windows 7 who are really frustrated to the extent of returning their PCs because they wouldn't update.

I have tried fixing this for a few days now after a new install, most of the fixes from forums don't give clear details like this video. I was about to give up and install windows 10 which i don't like much....It worked, Thanks a million for this video!

406th Like!!! I've tried EVERYTHING you can possibly think of to fix my Windows 7 updates & absolutely NOTHING has worked.I tried 6A,, 6B, 6C & now my updates are finally working again.Bless you Britec09!!!

Thank you so much! You helped greatly! I waited 12 hours in vain for November 2016 updates. kb3172605 fixed the slow update issue. (kb3020369 was not needed, since already installed.) By applying kb3172605, win7 found November updates within 5 mins. After that, as a Precaution, I installed all separated, loose Security Updates at first (from within November's Choices). Then rebooted and finally installed the remaining 133.9 MByte file kb3197868 too, which is the monthly "Security+Quality Rollup Update" for November 2016.

It took me alot of tries to fix this but it worked, keep at it folks something has to give. Thanks for the video Britec, I subscribed to your channel!

worked for me after step 3. the win 7 install was a sp1 from 2014. Thanks for a great video that was easy to follow and fixed a nightmare problem that every other forum and site i visited couldn't sort this problem. Top job.

Had a laptop system messed up for about a year.. Tried stopping 4 services and clearing out SoftwareDistrobution and catroot2 nothing ever worked Ran through your listed manual KB installs... For the first time listed updates.. 153 updates 988.7MB Kudos.. You fixed me.

Thanks a lot for this video. I got this issue after a full restore on Windows 8.1 and WSUS offline fixed it up just nicely. Windows update found the leftover stuff WSUS left out and is now running smoothly. :')

It worked for me! Thank you soooooo much! Step 10 WSUS is what worked for me, it took 2 hours to fully install but it was worth it. The other steps in 6 where we had to install things never installed so I had to skip it and continue. Thanks for making videos for us, I hope you’re rewarded with good karma!

Thank You Britec, I suggest for installing new Update Agent, that the Windows Update service is set to manual before stopping it, otherwise sometimes it can start automatically again, before you can launch Update Agent installation.

Thanks, this solved my problem. The key thing is to stop the update service so the recommended updates install.

Thank you so much for this. I tried doing some of these steps from a different tutorial, like removing the items in softwaredistribution folder, disabling Anti Virus and Firewall, folder but that didn't resolve it. I think what resolved it for me was the installation of 2 of the 4 updates that you recommend to manually install (as noted, make sure the Windows Update service is stopped). After flushing the dns, installing those 2 updates, and restarting so no startup programs ran during boot (msconfig), disabling AV and Firewall just to make sure it wasn't interfering, Windows Update FINALLY downloaded some updates to the C:\windows\softwaredistribution\download folder and showed progress in the C:\windows\WindowsUpdate.log file. I HAVE SPENT MONTHS FIGHTING TRYING TO GET THIS WORKING PROPERLY. And I tell you, the updates downloaded promptly. I didn't have to wait for 24 hours to find out if it was fixed. Hats off to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I meticulously followed Brian's directions and although it took a bit of time, I was able to stop windows update from getting hung up on a Windows 7 laptop. Thanks. BTW, the background music is fine. I know it can go either way. I've certainly heard a lot worse. Cheers!

Jesus Christ almighty, thank you so much. Guys, just follow the steps and try more than once. Also, don't be afraid to restart your pc a lot because it helps. This is extremely frustrating but this does fix it.

One other thing. Make sure your BITS (Background Intelligent Update Service is set to Autostart (delayed) and that it is started.

EDIT: apparently just restarting my computer started the program over again and it fixed itself it seems, This might of finally fixed my entire issue with updating hopefully. Ok so I recently did a full reset on my windows 8 computer (that was 8.1) and then after reset immediately updated to windows 8.1 but now, it only has the two lastest I am assuming KB updates. when I checked for updates it got stuck on a loop of checking, I DID what you recommend for the troubleshooter, it fixed two issues but the update loop still happened. Now I am following this Offline WSU thing, and it gets stuck installing after checking the framework states at KB3191564 what do I do oh mighty computer Guru? yes this is an old video but it seems relevant to my current computer issue. I have tried so many things already.

I'm trying these tips. it's been on Windows update standalone installer for a good half hour. It seems to not be doing anything yet. It keeps searching for updates on this computer. So far, it's still searching.

I think my issue is Windows 10 doesn't seem to update anymore and the update history is blank in settings. I'm currently using the WSUS Offline Update to see if this fixes my problem
