I suggest starting with the deleting cache files first. If all else fails I also have two videos on how to make a Kaspersky antivrus boot CD or USB key to help disinfect your computer. This guy is a god. I have spent days trying to fix this problem and all of the so called fixes were just the same process regurgitated by a different video presenters. This one actually works.

1. Go to Start> All Programs> Accessories Right-click on the Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator 2. Copy and paste the following command into the window: sc create BITS binpath= "c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs" start= delayed-auto 3. Once it finishes, go to Start>Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Services Find the BITS service and start it Reboot Windows Update should now be able to find, download and install updates with no errors.

I just want to thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! 20 years I have had a computer service and during that time I have always counted on the help of people like you when a new frustrating situation comes up with a computer software program. I did a new install of Win 7 Home and before I knew it Update Agent 7.6 had install but there is no way to remove it and no updates would download no matter what I tried in my huge folder with fixes for update hangs. The permission tweak did it!!! You are the best!!

every time i got a problem, i always come back to this video for the tweaking link. don't ask me why i don't just save it, because it always seems to be a after fought, after solving the problem. this time it was afterburner saying the side by side configuration error. so used that repair tool again to fix the visual c+. although i end up here when i couldn't do updated on a fresh pc build. since then its had 3 reinstall and i not had the problem again with my 1tb hard drive

Richard, have been working 3 days on this same problem. I have deleted all the cash files in c:\windows\software distribution. I have run the tweaker to set the registry permissions. I have run the 50202.msi fixit. Still not working. All my services are working, bits, the 3 diagnostics, windows update, and are set to delay start. I have rebooted after all fixes. When I run the Update readiness tool (windows update standalone installer) I get error 0x8000247. Also the from the control panel, the troubleshooter, indexing services, system search (which depends on the indexing) is not working. Any other ideas? This is a toughie. Robert Rand

On my windows 7 hp pavilion, I can't do ur BITS fix because it doesn't allow it to work and neither does this tool or registry. The windows update service is there not bits because it never works when I add it but my first bits said a error like it doesn't work because it's not a window product.... Please help

I couldn't download from the computer im trying to fix, it gives me " program couldn't be downloaded ". So I used a different computer to download the fix it and Registry permission reset tool and transferred via flashdrive to the computer that needs fixing. The Microsoft fix it tool ran fine as expected like the video, but when I ran the registry reset tool it says " Failed to load setup data file". HELP PLEASE..

Hi, I don't usually comment on videos, but I have this problem. Instead of the BITS service that failed to start, its the "wuaserv" that failed. It also needs the sufficient privileges. I've been trying the tweaking.com fix, but the Easy Fix tool still keeps picking that up as a problem. Any help? (The BITS in the registry is started, and the Windows Update is there, just can't start it due to Error 5 Access is denied) Also, this is a good video. Very clear too :)

Usually that means you are using an incompatible driver. Usually that means your are using a 32 bit driver when you need a 64 bit driver or vice versa. Or you are trying to use vista drivers in win7. Thanks.

Hey man, i tried this and when it done, instead of stop, it said start. So i clicked, it started again.I also tried to closed it by clicking the red x mark and run Microsoft Fix tool, although it said done, i still didn't have permission. Notice that it just took 30s to finish all every time i used it. U have any ideas?

Check the description. I have 6 or so fixes for this same issue as it is caused by many different things. If none of them work more than likely you have some malware in your machine. I try your way did not work I recently updated from a 250GB to a 500GB hardrive and now upon performing a recovery I can not longer get Windows Update to work. I get the response Error Code 8024A000. Does this works on win8 aswell? Since my windows store cant connect to internet, even tho. i have full connection, so i thought my windows updater could help me, but i cant find it in service.msc and so on. So this is a possible solution, but i see you run win7.

I can only tell you that this works on windows 7. I have no idea if this will work on windows 8. I don't have a copy of 8 so I would say be careful and use a solution that was tested on 8. Thanks.

hello, I kinda install windows a lot, and everytime I have to download over 1 gb of windows updates on a really slow internet connection, it takes over 3 hours, and I wonder if there is some way I can save the downloaded updates in a folder of my choice so I don't have to download them again?

You can use a program called windows updates downloader www.windowsupdatesdownloader.com/ or you can use this process Windows Update - Download Standalone MSU Installer File www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/147150-windows-update-download-standalone-msu-installer-file.html if you are handy with computers (linux or windows) you could use a caching proxy server (squid) to speed up this process wiki.squid-cache.org/SquidFaq/WindowsUpdate There are many other options available for offline windows updates as well. www.raymond.cc/blog/offline-windows-update/ Good luck.

Windows updates will not install - Fix It will not operate - I get this when I try to run it - "Troubleshooting Cannot Continue Because an Error Has Ocurred". I have run an " sfc /scannow " and nothing was found. I've gone through a detailed fix that involved retyping several .dll codes - nothing has worked. I've run Malware Bytes, BitDefender, nothing shows up. My computer is also taking about 5 minutes to boot. Just don't know where to go from here. HELP!! Running Win 7XP thanks, judy

this error occurs when you are using a WLAN connection, the internet is working fine but cannot update defender or get windows updates. the solution is fix a router with an ethernet cable to your PC but should be non WLAN.

thanks! have a problem with updates vista32 and 64, after sp2, keeps searching, downloads updates, but does not appear at the windows updates windows to install something

I ended up running the program to fix the registry permission twice. Although each time it successfully ran to the end, I still get the "...BITS failed to start ..." message when I run Fixt it 50202. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Have you tried? BITS Service Missing Repair/Restore or Background Intelligent Transfer Service Missing Win 7: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kLAL0ZlyjTU.html There are many solutions to this same problem. Check the description for links to all the videos I have made for it.

Richard Lloyd Thanks for the reply. I ran through the tutorial from 2 of your videos, including the BITS Repair/Restore. I've got it to the point now where Windows Update shows up, I choose "install updates", but then when it switches to "Downloading updates" it simply stays @ 0% complete, until "Failed updates" windows shows up w/ error code 80246008. Btw, I'm running Windows Vista. thanks

Richard Lloyd That didn't work either. I got an error msg about 'file missing' when I tried to start BITS. I've gotten to the point that I installed my recovery disk to restore to factory settings, but even that failed to run ...arrrrrrgh. Btw, your video tutorials are awesome. I hope once I resolve this nagging issue(s) that I won't have to use them, but its reassuring to know that experts like you are willing to share your experience w/ others.

Found a Quick Solution to this problem: Run Msconfig, Select the Services Tab and look for Windows Update. If you see the service has a check mark next to it, Uncheck it and hit Apply. Restart your computer ....Once it's back Perform the same Task again.. Just this time Put The Checkmark BACK, Hit Apply.. Restart and when you log back in the Windows Service will Install and Update!! Hope This Helps You Guy'z OuT!!

More than likely if you don't have a virus checker but are getting a virus warning you have some kind of Malware or Virus infection. Check my videos for free AV and Malware Software fixes. Good luck.

Hi Richard! i have run into this problem but not only this so i concluded i ahve some viruses on my pc. Anyway - will buying and installing windows 8 delete those viruses? and could i transfer photos from old OS to new win 8? Thanks

Richard Lloyd Well at the start of that video you said that you should you this method if your pc is unbootable. My pc doesnt look to have other problem than with update so would avast scan be enough? or should i do kaspersky eitherway?

pikolda007 I recommend that you use the Kaspersky method even if you don't disinfect it. You can do a full scan and it will tell you what you have. At least you can then choose to remove or not remove the malware/virus at that point. Understand that either way Kaspersky or Avast there is a chance of data loss or corruption. Back up all your important files prior to trying either method.

Hey I just tried to do this twice and I still get the problem with the fix it tool that says. "Service wuauserv (WUAUSERV) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." ... any suggestions?

Just call microsoft and let them fix your computer by remote. That's what I did. My computer is running like a brand new computer. No need to go thru all of the things your video suggests. Thanks for trying to help. They found neccesary Windows Updates that are the reason why computers don't get Windows Updates. All the steps you point out here, are not nesscessary. Let Microsft do a live remote, and they'll fix everything FOR FREE!

A post script to original message - I think what I did was called "re-registering all DLL's" - most were successful, but many were not so the process really didn't do anything to help. Back in November I had the FBI/CIA virus that held my laptop hostage - had to pay to have it removed by tech support. But, that's when these problems began. After they were done - system didn't recognize CD's or DVD's - I found a fix for that - but wonder how many other things they messed up in the process. Just am at a loss for where to go from here.

I finally got windows update to work, even if there's still the red x, i can click on check for update. I wanted yo to make W. U to work because i needed to download Sp1, i downloaded it from a site, and after installation was done, i checked W. U and it worked. Thank you for help, for sure your programs helped somehow.
