Despite attempting this reset method over 25x, my display continues not to work. It will vibrate indicating it's on, but the smiley never comes up. The app says it's on and charged. It's incredibly frustrating!
Maddie your watch is broken, if this fix does not work. Please use your warranty to get a replacement or purchase a new watch. I'm sorry that this did not work for you.
Same for me. Even worked over the phone with a fitbit tech. Only have had the charge 3 for a little over two years but am beyond warranty. They did offer me a discount for purchase of a new devise.

Same boat as you all. I saw my fitbit2 face dissapear in front of my eyes from backward number to leaving the screen and Fitbit offered a discount as well. It does everything on the app but the screen is blank. ☹
Just bought my charge 3 about three days ago, had read reviews on sync issues but took a chance. Today found it wouldn’t sync and my choice exercises had changed all to Pilates. Just tried this method to get it to sync and return my choices of exercises and it worked! So thank you!
I just did this for my charge 2, my screen was all messed up showing like a backwards mirror image. It fixed it. The smiley face did not come up when I held the button in while on the charger, but the fitbit symbol came onto the screen. I unplugged it and it is all showing correctly now.... Unfortunately I did this, as well as the longer reset (where the bar pops up and it vibrates about 7 times.) It did not fix my 1 year old Fitbit Charge 3. =( I still have the grey screen with lines on it. I hope this helps others though! Thank you for the video!
Reviewed the video and held in the side button for approximately 10 seconds. Didn't get a smiley face but instead the fitbit icon appeared and after a few moments the clock face appeared after that. Worked like a charm! Thank you for such an easy simple fix. I was just about to throw the fitbit in the trash but decided to go on RU-vid for help. I love RU-vid.
Unfortunately, your fix did not work for my fitbit. I also tried changing the clock face in settings as was suggested by another YTer. Dang, I am so disappointed. I am just over the 1 year warranty by 2 months. Part 2: I tried using another charging cord after reading your suggestion below and still black screen--no smiley face! It does sync info to my phone app so, I guess I can still wear it, and use my phone to monitor it, unless you have any more suggestions. I will keep trying. Thanks for the suggestions.
Update…can barely see the screen in very low light. Maybe mine is getting old? Your information was so simple and easy to understand!! Thank you soooo much.
Thank you so so much. I recently got my Fitbit 3 for Mother’s Day and I love it it just stop recording my heart beat not anymore because this reset process that literally took about 4seconds resolved my problem😊
Yes that does works however my screen is FADING and there is only two settings of brightness, auto and bright. The bright is really low. Can only see it in very low light. You were so clear and easy! Fitbit should hire you!
My Fitbit displayed it was charging, but after hours it still wasn’t charging and had a frozen display. Did exactly what you said and it’s working. Thanks a lot, saved me from buying a new one!
OMG .. My Fitbit 3 had not functioning for more than 1 and 1/2 years ... and thought it's won't work ever. But watching this video I pulled it out from archive box where I throwed my fitbit 3. Surprise to me. It worked. Thanks so much for great tip.
Yea I've tried this several times. Sometimes the smiley will pop up sometimes not. & when it does, I still have a black screen. I got a black screen after it froze during an update.
This didn't work for me. My screen isn't working at all. There's still haptic feedback (vibrations) but the screen has not come back. I've also tried changing the clock face as well

Thanks, but did your steps directions and still can't see a Smiley face. I can feel vibration and green lights on back. Syncing to my Fitbit app, just can't see screen lit up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have a Fitbit Charge 3 two and a half years old.

This did not fix the black screen issue (really very dim). I get the smiley face in bright light, but the fix bit itself is still black. It is impossible to read
I have my fitbit charge 3 issue. I already plugged it in its charger. But nothings happen. When im pressing the side button, it vibrates as long as im holding the button. I really don't know what to do. This really means to me. 😩😩
Not that easy for everyone. I've been doing that for two days now it still is not discoverable on iphone's bluetooth. I reset fitbit many times, toggled bluetooth on and off, rebooted iphone, updated to the latest ios 15.4., did network setting reset a few times, tried to ask help from fitbit customer service. Nothing worked for two days now. I will try it on the laptop later if it can be discoverable.

Very interesting but this does not work on a charge 2. My screen is reaching the point that you can barely read the time . Have set it to normal as well have tried automatic screen brightness. Still not working. The watch is only 2 years old. I have tried this method a number of times but still no joy. I even did a factory hard reset. Still not working properly. I can see why people are giving a 2 or three. Won't be buying a Fitbit in the near future.
i've reset my fitbit so many times, followed all the instructions fitbit gives as what to do to troubleshoot this issue, nothing literally works - the synching I swear keeps on unsyning all the phones
I have tried everything and my Fitbit still unsyncs constantly. Also I have black lines going through my screen and I have only had it for a year and 3 months. Fitbit tells me they can't to anything else and I should look into a new one. I will not buy a new Fitbit every year or so. That is just crazy. I did not spend so much money for it to barley last past warranty.
I had setup problems with the charge3 . The screen was on for a little bit. The it turned off and i couldnt. Held the button while it was plugged in and i felt a vibrate and a smiley face. Setting the charge up now. Thanks heaps
Nothing that I have tried has solved my Fitbit Charge 3 Issue. I’ve been doing the “screen reset” I also just did what someone else recommended, changing the clock face several times, and I tried resetting right afterwards. My issue is when I raise my arm my screen stays black and I have to manually press it to see my heart rate.
I tried your fix as well as the changing clock faces fix, and neither one worked for me. I still have a blank screen. It has worked in the past, but this time no smiley face. Any other suggestions?
No, smiley face means your not doing it right. Smiley face means it went through, no smiley means keep trying or find a friend with their power charger and see if it works.
This is my second Fitbit and it have the same problem than the one before. I try to reset it many times too. If I go in a farm room I can see the numbers but hardly. I am done with Fitbit. Did not wanted to spend the money on an Apple but after partying for two Fitbit I am done here!
I have a black screen. When I do as the video tells me to, I feel a vibration after about 10 seconds, but the screen remains black. I never saw a smile face. Not sure what to try next.
I have tried all of the things you are saying and my screen is still black...can not pair it...not able to get pairing code cause my screen is BLACK....can't get the damn thing to turn on....
I continue to try this. Even did the hard reset and I still have lines all across the screen. Can’t make out the date or barely the time. I’m getting notifications but can’t read those either. 🤷🏻♀️
If it doesn't work you need to see if it's still under warranty or just get a new watch or try it with a new power supply. Sorry, your watch is broke if this doesn't work.
Just trying to get mine to recharge. I’ve cleaned the prongs, I’ve tried other outlets, I’ve tried to get it to reset, I’ve tried to change the clock face. Nothing works.
My Fitbit screen went all weird earlier, had white lines and stuff and was very hard to read the text. I was able to reboot it, but now it’s just black. The button still works and I’ve reset it about 6 times now and it’s still black

Thanks for the video, but this still did not save my wife’s Charge 3, screen is so dim, it is bearly readable, tried your fix three times,it did not work….I had owned a Versa 2 had too many issues to mention and now this issue with my wife’s Charge 3….sorry Fitbit…but I’m out, bought another smartwatch from another competitor. I really wanted to stay with FitBit, but it was not to be 😢. My wife is now looking for another smartwatch herself.
We followed your instructions and we got the smiley face, although our iPhone XR won't recognize or sync and it did before ? Any hints and or tricks you know would be greatly appreciated.
Reinstall app, if you got smiley then all should be good. If reinstalling app does not work, go into watch settings reboot device and if that doesn't work go to watch settings again and clear user data starting up fresh.
