Mine is brand new, about two months old and it's froze up twice on the recommended setting. I changed the setting to two and thawed out the ice like shown in the video and it's been working fine. Good luck
I fixed my frozen ice maker water line with hot water in my waterpik and I cleared it in less than 15seconds. The waterpik is awesome and cut right through the ice like cotton candy.
I had just mentioned to my daughter that the line coming in looks and feels frozen so tomorrow I was going to take the hair dryer to it plus I dropped the temp from 3 to 1 hoping it will melt by late tonight. Then, I went to RU-vid and found your video. Thank you for this video and I’ll try the hair dryer tomorrow.
Hey, I had to thaw the water flow funnel coming into the freezer recently and read this. After reading the comments and deciding to use hot water, I wanted to pass along that I used an emptied out (and rinsed out) 20oz French's mustard squeeze-bottle filled with hot water. Worked great to squirt the hot water directly into the funnel and melt the ice. As there was no visible ice at first, I used a wooden skewer I had on hand and fed it up it into the tube, where the tube goes into the back of (inside) the freezer. I noticed a small round plug of ice came down and then a bit later a larger cylinder of ice (about 3" long) slid down into the funnel. That's when I used the hot water squirting to melt that sucker. Now there's water in the ice maker but I guess that's from what I just squirted and the ice plug that melted in there. I'll have to see after this cycles through if the water now refreshes on its own.
Yeah, the fill tube is a real problem with built in ice makers. Adding a funnel on the end of the full tube and aiming the hair dryer into the funnel is a good way of directing the airflow from the hair dryer. They do sell aftermarket fill tube heaters will keep that tube above 32F and tap into the existing power supply of the ice maker.
Thanks! This worked for me. Took a hairdryer to the ice maker water outlet in the freezer for 10 min then did the same on the outside water inlet, turned the water supply on and off 3 times to try and get a surge of pressure then everything started working again!!!! :)
Thank you thank you I tried this now waiting for ice maker and ref to cool back to temp this was the most helpful thing I been searching u tube I’m glad I found your post again thank you my ref only 9 months old fingers cross I hope I get ice
Mine freezes every so often. I just remove the tube and run water over it for about 60 seconds and a shaft of ice poops out. It's two screws on the back and it slides right out but desings can vary. Takes about 3 minutes total and you aren't heating up the freezer. I still tweak the settings each time to see if I can get it to stop. My side-by-side freezer has a cold control and an air byass control. Still trying to find the no freeze tube but also no exploded fridge sodas setting, but the fridge is 24 years old so don't really give that much of a crap but then again all the newer fridges really suck. An infared temp gun can be very helpful with the tweaking. There is also a theory that the ice maker valve has a tiny tiny seep and the very slow water has time to freeze and build up.
As others have said, the hot water method work faster - less than a minute. Easiest way I’ve found is get a cup of hot tap water and fill up a large syringe like you would inject butter into a turkey. You can direct it exactly where you want. If no syringe then a baster thing with the squeeze bulb on the end works. Even a squirt gun would work. Make sure any ice from the chute doesn’t fall into the cup where the fill tube directs water. If it clogs up the hole into the ice maker the cup will fill up and freeze and water just overflows into the freezer and freezes on the walls and shelves.
Thank u! Ive been poking mine with an ice pick that I heat up. But the blow dyer is genius! Thank u for this video and tip of leaving at “2” I sure did now. Ive done this 3rd time 😅
This work also for me couple weeks ago I turned it up higher and all of a sudden I got tons of ice around my icemaker and on the side wall of the freezer! 👍
A bad water valve will cause dripping which builds up into a frozen blockage. If dripping continues after melting blockage replace water inlet valve assembly.
Pretty sure this is my issue too. I just wish you’d shown a little better where that location was in the back of the fridge. I haven’t pulled mine out yet lol
Where is the other side that that tube comes out of? Your camera moved fast and I couldn’t see what you were doing. I’m having the same problem with the same freezer and my water supply line is frozen with ice. I got a screwdriver and kept dipping it in water and got the opening melted, but it looks like I have to do more. I understand the hairdryer in the first part, but I don’t understand, where you put the hairdryer coming from that other part is
Hmm... dat's a good idea right there.... wife just cleaned the freezer but did not let it completely thaw... problem is that there is no other place to store all the useless stuff elsewhere while it thaw... the result is, still no ice. I'm gonna try that. Thanks !
I have the same problem, how did you get the ice bucket out? There is not a single video on RU-vid or even on the Whirlpool web site that even shows this model of refrigerator.
When u thaw a fill tube please as a repair I ask to refrain from use a hair dryer to thaw anything on a fridge cause if u bubble the liner it’s not repairable...it’s easiest to use a water bottle filled with hot water on it but the bottle needs to have a nozzle on the end of it...me personally when I run calls and I’m thawing fill tubes I use an old zoom spout bottle that I cleaned out and then just run it up in the fill tube squeezing water till it’s clear only take a second
