Thank you! Took 10 minutes! For anyone wondering, you can accomplish this without raising the trunk all the way up, I used a ladder to set the truck open onto 60% of the way up and had no problems and it was very sturdy and didn’t need anyone to help hold it up. You just have to hold it up a bit when latching on the second part of the lift that goes on the lid.
00:59 was the most important tip. i learned it the hard way. after watching different vids that show people completely removing the clip and following what they did, it took us so long to replace them
After watching your excellent video, I replaced the lifts on my Honda Fit in just a few minutes while hubby held the hatch open. Showing the closeup of the clip was really helpful. The quote we got from Honda was over $200. The lifts were only about $45.
Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Sure feels good to fix this on your own doesn't it? Glad you were able to save money too. Please subscribe to our channel and share our videos to help our channel grow. Thank you for the support.
Thanks for sharing kind sir. It worked like a charm, Note: on the outlander you might have to take 2 screws of the "rear lights" for better access to the "bottom ball", it will make sense when you in the process.
Thanks for the info and for commenting. We didn't seem to need to take any screws off. Perhaps you have a different year/generation Outlander? What year do you have?
Thanks so much! Luckily my trunk stays open if it's opened all the way, but I was annoyed by it slamming shut if I didn't let it down gently. Watched your video and replaced mine for $18!
That's great. Glad you were able to easily do the fix yourself for only $18. That's got to feel good. Please help our channel grow by liking and sharing our videos. Subscribe for more good stuff to come. We appreciate your support!
Cars 90 years ago might have had rebuildable shocks, but it goes without saying that struts and shocks aren't fixable. They're disposable like filters are. No one should have been fooled into thinking the struts themselves were fixable, and replacing them does fix the problem.
Great tutorial! May I know if there is any way to reduce the pressure of the gas strut? Coz it seems too powerful/high pressure for the new pair that I have installed for the front bonnet of my car.
Thank you. Unfortunately there isn't a way to increase or reduce the pressure. You have to get ones that are matched to you vehicle. In my case, the first time i did this I purchased two that were for too low a load and it resulted in the trunk not lifting all the way.
@@FrakkingCreations you are welcome, I see... problem of mine is actually an aftermarket product, but it's meant for my car model, and now everytime when I close the front bonnet, I have to use a decent amount of force to close it(couldn't just simply drop it & let gravity does the job) due to the very strong lifting force Anyway, thank you for ur quick reply!

I'm with the others on the 'Fixing' not 'Replacing' lol I'm looking for a ghetto cheap way to fix mine without replacing... like spraying flex seal on it or some other cheap way of doing it :)
Thanks for your feedback. Though we are talking about fixing the hood/trunk/hatch of a car. :) I can't imagine a cheap fix that would only require repairing the seal of the strut. It has usually lost too much pressure and need some sort of recharge. If you find something that works, please share!
I think you will need to get ones that are matched to your vehicle. Also, i had bought cheap ones before that are the same length as the originals but were not able to lift the trunk like your situation. I just ended up buying ones that are stated to work for my vehicle and that are name brands. The ones in the video are the ones that worked for me.
It can work for a lot of vehicles. You need to check a few things though... It's easiest if you use the form to select the vehicle you have so that the correct struts are recommended. If you don't get the struts that are for your vehicle you may experience the trunk/hood not lifting fully by itself or the attachment ends not matching to fit your vehicle's attachment points. If you vehicle uses different type of attachment points instead of the ball type I showed in the video then the installation process will differ.
You're welcome. Glad it worked for you. Please like or share the video to help others with the same issues. Consider subscribing for more great content to come!
No. I used the brand shown in the video. You don't necessarily need to use OEM ones but don't use cheap quality ones. Cheap ones don't last and may not lift the trunk/hood up with enough force. Make sure the ones you get has the same lifting capabilities as the originals. It may be easiest to find a brand that has direct fit parts for your vehicle.
The struts/lifters you bought are not matched to your vehicle. Get ones that are for your specific vehicle as not all struts/lifters are rated the same. Plus some could be cheap ones that aren't that good.
Though there are ways you can find to prop the boot up, it may not be safe. It's up to you if you want to take that risk. Best if you could ask someone to help hold the boot up. It needs to be held up all the way. Maybe ask the cute neighbor next door to help 😉
It’s funny you say that because I managed to fix the problem by holding the boot with one hand and take both struts out with the other hand all by myself with no assistance and it took me five minutes to do the job so it depends on the individual and your skills
@@FrakkingCreations Not sure yet...I'm going to take the part back to the parts store first and see if maybe he gave me the wrong part.I cant figure out how it goes on!I think it might be the wrong part I got the old part off easy! The top end of mine is made different than yours.
The prices will range from different brands and different qualities. I've also tried lower priced ones that weren't as good. Maybe you have found a good deal. Oftentimes you either pay more for the brand name or you really get what you pay for.
