Car door lock jammed so you can't get the door open to take it apart? First try this shortcut to unjamming it before going to the hassle of trying to take apart a door that won't open.
Thanks so much for posting this video!! I've got a 1996 Toyota Corolla with the same exact problem. This looks so much easier than I thought it would be. Now I just need to tackle it when I have a few minutes. Thanks again!!
Thank you sooo much for this video; I opened my commodore back door for the first time in 3 years because I followed these steps on your video... cheers
Thank you so much! I had a rear electric door lock on 97 Geo Prism LSI, a.k.a., Toyota Corolla, that moved partially but won't unlock the door. I never got around to repair it until I viewed your video. I removed the door handle per your video and moved out of the way a plastic sheet and sprayed a few shoots of silicon based garage door opener lubricate with Teflon on the mechanism. The door lock is now working on what I call my "Moon Car" since it has over 320,000 miles and still running. The moon is about 250,000 miles from earth so this car is now on its way back to earth. My advice to you is to keep your car if you yet to sell it. Thanks again for the easy fix.
It did cross my mind 'faintly' but passed on in ignoring it. I had booked it in for the garage to do...then seing your video I thought why should the garage get my money...proberly costing me £175.00 when I could spend that on tools for my self!? So thank you for giving me a gentle nudge...say, "hey you can do this!!" That I will!!
Thanks for the content - my Mom told me her passenger door has been locked all summer. Can't wait to fix it for her. You saved me a ton of time trying to figure this all out by myself. Much appreciated.
This is happening to the back driver door on my 1992 chevy suburban.. Gonna give it a try. The unlock button works for all other doors except one. I cannot pick it up by hand either.. Thanks for the video. This was exactly what I was looking for!
This saved me! My daughters car door was having the same problem and I too searched all over the internet and all I could find was how to fix it with the door open. I finally got it
Hey thanks! I've got a Chevy Prizm (the same build as the Corolla) and I've had to replace the door handles a few times. Now my passenger door is stuck on unlock, but I'll have to give it a go. Thanks for sharing!
I'm about to try this on my Passat driver side door thanks man this was extremely helpful I'm trying a bunch of things to get my door to unlock and yours is the first one
this actually works for my 1998 Honda Civic where the door lock mechanism snapped off inside it so I can unlock it so I removed the handle panel at the sky said and then found the locking mechanism on the inside unlocked and now I can open my door from the inside and the outside! Thank you sir for this video
You mentioned the same search problems I was having even though it’s ten years later from your video! I have a 2016 Genesis with this problem. The interior handle looks a little different but I’m going to see if this works. Thanks!
brillant thankyou for shareing this had the same trouble worrying over how to get the door open tryed everything just watched your video and worked a treat many thanks :)
My Corolla manual lock stuck yesterday. Driver door so it locked me in. I finally got it open to work on it by taking the grommet-like trim piece off of the pull-up mechanism. This gave enough wiggle room to work the latch. Now I can take the door apart to fix it.
this is awesome, thanks for sharing this, for taking time to make this video....door lock is jammed on my hyundai...however, i can still move the lock thing-ie into position....but will do as you suggest here anyhow, eyeball it carefully, with wd-40 in hand, and see how things look...
Hi there. Hey, thanks so much for this video. I have a 2002 Nissan Sentra 4-banger beater that give me problems this morning after washing it and parking it outside. The temperature dropped overnight and in the morning I couldn't even put the key in the keyhole the auto unlock feature wouldn't work didn't work either. I'm going to try this to free things up. Hopefully it works.
I couldn't get that plastic plate around the inside door release to pop off. Felt like it might break. But using a pliers to grab the lock knob, I was able to pull it up. It now will open from the outside but not the inside. What to do next?
Cool, good idea when you're in a pinch. Wasn't 100% sure I wanted to try this incase I bent the mechanism but if other people are doing it might as well give it a shot! Haha I'll just use some type of lubricant rather than wd40 if I get it unstuck. Wish me luck!
I have an 08 Buick Lucerne with an issue where both rear door locks are stuck. I can unlock and lock them by pushing it up and down but otherwise all you can hear is the clicking sound and the door lock mechanism will not work on it’s own. It sounds like it is partially working but I don’t know what is causing not just one but BOTH of them to get jammed up.
i had this happening to my 2001 kia rio a few days ago it was getting annoying i had to have whoever was going with me somewhere ride in the backseat lol. i did what youre doing my passenger door was stuck in lock while closed there was no way to open it and i removed the panel and cracked a good size hole on the door frame but small enough so that the panel will cover it 100% and still be held in place basically did it cus different car than this one in the video and the the part seen in the video was located different but what i have found out is that when door is closed and in lock if someone tries to open it while locked it will get stuck but if they dont do that and only open it while not locked door works perfect only thing pending as of now is to clean it up with WD40 and give it a test im praying it works lol. i dont wanna have to pay someone who will lie to me and will tell me its bigger than it really is.
That would be helpful but mines the driver side I can’t see it I managed to get the panel off from inside but I can’t figure out how to unlock the lock
