OMG, this came at an awesome time. Brody had me up 3 times last night. As you know he is in his 8' kennel during the day while we're at work, and on WEDNESDAYS, we have church so he is in there even longer after I have him out for awhile to eat and play "a bit". Last night (Wednesday) he did NOT want to sleep. Also, we are very cautious about working him for awhile after he eats (2 cups of food) every evening about 5:00. So, on Wednesday's there isn not much "out of the kennel" time. We will have to up his Play/Work/Train time from now on. Thank you for this video, I have forwarded it to my hubby to watch and be aware of.
Thank you! My 9 month old "little" girl (62 lbs) will go on a running frenzy right after our 1.5 - 2 mile walk. She is beautiful to watch, but still had so much energy. I will have to encourage this more to tire her out. Thanks again for the great advice!
I so needed to hear this. We've had our puppy for just over a week now. Last night she kept me up all night long. Some nights she sleeps right through so I just thought we took a step backwards. We train and work daily. She gets to a point where she will lay or sit and just seem very enthusiastic. So we quit. I'm thinking now I just haven't worked her enough. I hate to use the term lazy, but the only time she ever gets really excited is when we show her love. Balls, toys, even food she just acts like it's no big deal. So it's hard to judge when she is truly tired out.
I love working my puppy morning and night. At night until after 9:00pm. She sleeps well. Always up at 6:00am. Work her before breakfast then feed her. After lunch we train and walk at park yo Socialize and work on commands. Back home for a nap. Then evening exercise. Comes in and goes right to crate.
Charles I'm a wildlife photographer well okay I'm a guy with a camera. But I like to shoot wildlife and bugs along with my dogs playing. Great story I was surprised to hear that you did that. I'm on Flickr if you're a photographer and you have anything posted let us know it would be great to see what you've done. Man that dog is sharp! You're taking it for granted but so dialed in.
Oh, one more suggestion, for Hank. Get yourself some young kids and teenage boys to rum around with the dog. If that doesn't tire him out nothing will!! I get exhausted just watching them all go crazy.
Let me tell you what everybody. My GSD gets a field run in the morning, a walk, and 20 fetches in the evening. Training throughout. He sleeps perfectly!!! It takes a lot of stimulation for these babies!
I need help with puppy biting and listening to no. I’ve tried pinning him down by his neck until he stops moving, but he gets right back up and bites again. He has been chewing any and everything and especially peoples toes. He is 9 weeks. Please help!
Watching your babies makes me so wish I were allowed a dog :( I can't where I'm living at the moment, it's probably a good thing as my finances are limited.
Hi German Shepard man. I have a 6 month old sabel GSD and i was told i couldn’t run him, is this true? Am i able to jog with him, without running risk to his joints? I mean, he does sprint when i play fetch with him. Thanks.
I can not get my 8 week old interested in anything. Ball. Stick. Bite rope. Nothing. I can’t get her to stop biting. I have used ur methods on the biting. Still bites. I can pin her down by collar she pops up right back at it. I tell no no no loud. It scares her. She stops. Then right back at it. I’m at my wits end. Not to mention the ankle biting. Same deal. No no no pin her down right back at it. I’m at a loss. How do I get her to stop biting and interested in playing anything.
I’ve been told mental stimulation tires them out more than walking and exercise. It’s tough right now because I have so much work but I try to mix training and walking. If I could get my boy to not react to every dog we see while walking he’d be perfect. Any tips for that?
So my puppy is 16 weeks old and I'm starting to work enter at 8 in morning and coming back home at 5:pm is that alright? Or there is something I can do?
I would have to see your setup to advise. Best to get someone to come let him out in the middle of the day so he can do his business and PLAY for about an hour. GSM
I can only imagine how awful all that pentup energy must feel like for that poor pup :( German shepherds are working dogs it's in their name. Gotta work em and it makes training so much easier.
