You can easily substitute Jesus and scripture with Kant and Enlightenment philosophy - that is, the idea that human nature is imperfect (re: sinful), but through reason and self-discipline, one can strive toward moral and intellectual enlightenment. Your framework still applies: 1. Prayer: Substitute with practicing Kant's categorical imperative regularly (like you would prayer). “The moral law is a product of reason, and it is the foundation of all duties.” (Groundwork 4:393). 2. Three levels of scripture: Substitute with Kant's three levels of experience (sensibility, understanding, and reason). “All our knowledge begins with sense, proceeds then to the understanding, and ends with reason.” (Critique of Pure Reason, A:51). 3. Boredom: Substitute with proto-Enlightenment Stoic practices. “He who is not a philosopher, who has no idea of reason, is also in the company of a stoic when he is bored.” (Anthropology from a Pragmatic Point of View 18:4). 5. Productive relaxation: Substitute with Kant's practice of happiness. “One's happiness is an issue for duty because not tending to one's happiness could easily become a great temptation to transgression of duty.” (Groundwork 4:399).

@@nicholasangello you want to be an inspiration to young men, how about not trying to strike fear into the hearts of some of them and tell them they’re gonna burn in hell forever for something that’s not their fault and compare them to murderers. You have no idea what that does to a person’s mental health when chances are they’re already going through the worst time in their lives in adolescence and have no one to talk about their struggles because haters like you have them terrified into silence. And to do it under the guise of “morality” and being such a nice “self-sacrificing” guy. I asked this question because I often get stuck on the same number of reps for too long. The number of reps can even go down. What can I do to get past this? Change up rep ranges (instead of exercise variation) for a while every time this happens? If yes, (1) When exactly should I make the decision that it's time to do it? (2) If I change the rep range on one push exercise (for example), what should I do with my second push exercise?

Hey man, I was wondering what your take on developing narcissistic tendencies during the pursuit of fitness goals was. I myself have fallen prey to these tendencies many a time, to the point I noticed my treatment of friends and family had changed for the worse. My viewpoints of self-value also became more shallow. How can one balance this pursuit of self-betterment without making it all encompassing? Also, love the videos and your unique take on many difficult topics. Thanks.
@nicholasangello

@@houstonboostin5140 It’s pretty simple. If I met you in real life I would look you in the eyes and tell you that you aren’t special or better than anyone else. Lifting does not make a person better than another person, and having infinite resources available to you should exclusively lead you to help others . Narcissism just indicates you are prideful and in desperate need of a savior, because pride is one of the worst conditions of a man. Using your advantaged position to think you are better than another is terrible “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes,” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭6‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬ Repent, that’s my advice, otherwise sin will cause you to think you are better than other people

Many religious laws are arbitrary, from a particular historical context, some metaphorical. Why is a religious law? This is why we have science, it gives us an equals sign. If you commit incest, it may lead to emotional damage, as well as potential physical damage to offspring. Murder equals social collapse. The equals sign is what ancient man materialised and understood as an undergirding divinity. The equals sign for us humans falls down to human self-preservation which is why every divinity in every tradition appears to centre us. What we couldn't understand, fear, chaos, became metaphysical malevolent powers. If you eat crap food your body will be crap. Now, you can call it gluttony, a sin, but the rule holds true without religion and science tells you exactly how the food is crap. If you can't explain a rule or a view outside of 'this deity, book, or religious edict says so', or 'if you don't do this, then this deity is going to get you', then it is dogma, which there's no space for within the battle for human progression.
@nicholasangello
@nicholasangello 2 дня назад
You are presenting the idea that morality is cultural or evolved. I was waiting for someone to present this idea, the idea of self preservation. This isn’t to be rude, but don’t think this society has disregarded or proved God, because of something as simple as modern therapeutical practice. You point out dynamics that heavily indicate in a human that they have a programmed structure of correct living, such as clearly defined relationship structures, eating the right amount, murder as a detriment to society, why couldn’t a highly advanced society just test their populations intelligence and start slaughtering the dumber ones, that’s real self preservation. Having sex with as many women as possible, if you are good looking and intelligent, that is real self preservation, not self sacrificially giving yourself to your wife and children and helping the poor and uneducated. Self sacrifical behavior is the basis of human morality, the exact same type that a creator would have to have to create this universe and interact with it. Don’t be so quick to disregard God, it seems you have never questioned death or the condition of death, but merely assumed this is a fairly normal occurrence. Only one singular figure in history overcame death, and He also claimed He was God. If you believe in science, you could go study right now and find that all current documentation of his existence is historically credible and backed by modern practice, maybe look into that.
@J.O.Cringe
@J.O.Cringe 2 дня назад
@@nicholasangello We’ve developed our senses from hundreds of millions of years of back testing. We have gone through centuries of infanticide (like the Spartans), eugenics, believing in untermenschen, etc., it created social collapse. Sex could result in unplanned families = social collapse, not to mention emotional manipulation of sexual partners. Sporadic, safe, consensual sex isn't generally condemned by science. Humans survive through social cohesion, solipsism doesn’t aid human self-preservation, the ‘self sacrifice’ is to our society. (Is loyalty to a man-made country godly?) Family is the nucleus of human society. A creator sacrificing themselves centres humans. Life is made whole by death. Do you have a favourite film? Would you want it to go on forever? Why? Why should a day end, and not us? How would life survive a perpetual noon? Life has to be structured based on maximising the quality of your actions, living life in its purest (truth) in all seasons. Even the Jesus story contained an earthly birth and a consequent sojourning. His story was of overcoming the fear of death through a fulfilled life (for us as organisms, essentially, fulfilment is based on the survival and thriving of our group). Life’s works live after you. There are a thousand religious traditions with a central hero. If you listen to them (have you listened to others outside of your culturally Euro-American context?), they’re sort of saying the same thing, they just didn’t have modern science.

If a man came to earth claiming that He could conquer death, that He exclusively knew the path to everlasting life, and rose from the dead, would you pay attention? Because I’m presenting a man who most literally came to earth, and with credible eye witnesses is reported rising after a public crucification, with historical backing, if you can’t believe that, He was reported in His lifetime as having raised dead people back to life and healing disease and sickness. I have found one feasible path that leads to eternal life, supposedly in Jerusalem 2000 years ago a guy died publicly and was seen by 500 risen again. He was able to restore sickness and was attested as raising dead people, and there are documents indicating that many tens of people actually knew He was coming hundreds of years earlier, that are fully supported by modern testing. @@nicholasangello @nicholasangello hey nich thx for your explanations it's very nice you take the time to answer comments and everything. So when it comes to the fear of death you mention I can try to give an understandable explanation : so essentially as an atheist i believe that it's weird to be terrified by death because to me death sounds like absence of any sensation or conscience, pain or pleasure and so agony would be terrifying, but not really death in itself, because you can't be terrified if you don't exist, just as before we were born, we couldn't be terrified or happy. Christianity, having faith in christ tend to be a positive thing in people's life tough, and theists tend to behave more moral, or show more empathy towards others, stronger sense of responsibility or commitment in marriage for example. than I imagine atheists would. So I'm almost jealous I don't have faith, or wasn't educated on that due to my family not being religious or at least not talking about it, unironically.
