He-Man to Mattel is what Superman is to McFarlane Toys. They just can’t or don’t want to make a perfect head sculpt for him. If you have a MOTUC He-Man, you can also use its head.
It’s definitely a similar sort of situation since both characters are instantly iconic yet generic in their square jawed superhero guy good looks. However, I would argue that Mattel hasn’t missed as wildly as McFarlane has a few times with Superman. Some of those are just impossibly bad.
I just tried it this morning, perfect! I almost passed on this figure because of the chin but when I saw this video, I bought it and gave it a try. Now he's my favorite He-man in my collection.
I personally likd how it looks outta the box, but I've seen more than a few people have the same gripes as you do so I how those people see your tutorial so they'll be happier with it. Either way I can't wait to see your review of this guy! He's my favorite Masterverse and my all time favorite He-Man action figure by now (yeah I'd argue he beats out all previous Masterverse and even Classics!), so I've been excitedly waiting for my favorite MOTU reviewer to talk about him!!!
it looks ... different, I don't know if it looks better or not, but tbh I really like the new head, I think he looks great and is overall the best Masterverse He-Man and for me on par with the Classic He-Man.
Yeah I personally feel like he's corrected the gripes I had with the original Masterverse release(s), the usual "oh if this, this and this were different it'd be great!", New Eternia made many fixes, 40th & Savage tested out new torsos, New Adventures ensured he had the right hands, and movie (as well as 40th I suppose) finally sorted out the correct head size, which lead us to this He-Man which isn't just damn great but even seems to have become the new Masterverse standard as New Eternia Thunder Punch seems to be showing! Hope we get a 200X and comic based look out of this mold too!
I was skeptical about this trick, but it does look much better after! I think that fixes the only flaw with this figure and I'm glad to know it's an easy solution. Thanks for sharing!
This is impressive. I was not convinced enough to buy this new he man because of the shape of the head, but after seen this fix im very interested, thank you!!
Oh yeah I did that with a hairdryer when I got my Rev He-Man beginning of March. I'd done it to some figures before, but yeah several Masterverse ones, such as Movie 1987 He-Man and New Adventures He-Man who both had weirdly long faces too. :) I haven't done it to my second Rev He-Man yet (I bought another cos I accidentally broke the neck of my first one) cos it seems oddly less an issue on it (as well as a couple other issues fixed, such as the harness took an HOUR for me to put on my first figure when I first got it, but on my new one it was simple) so perhaps Mattel have made some small changes.
Excellent solution👍🏿. But I think the Mold Release explanation may be too generous. In my opinion, it is more likely that the sculpt is a direct response to the horrible Revelation He-Man figure and the chin is an overcorrection. As stated in the video, botched He-Man sculpts are nothing new. The issues with his sculpt have more to do with being easy to get wrong than hard to get right. Not because there is one definitive likeness, but because things can go south when the purpose is not sound. There have been problems communicating "who he is" since the 80s, at the same time there have been many instances of it being done seamlessly. Funny enough, things like "high end" vs "affordable" or custom vs factory are not the determinate factors.
does the boiling water damages any paint, wash or glue that may be on the head? And does the process of "fixing" the head somehow also warp stuff luke the hair or the overall head shape?
Nope. I’ve boiled and reshaped stuff like this for years and never once has this trick actually damaged anything. As for the hair, I mean you could sort of influence its shape a little but I doubt it very much.
Thank you for the tip fanboysforever, it really works...however I do appreciate He - Man's Aaron Eckhartesq chin...so I decided not to squish it too much, just enough so that his face doesn't look 'puffy' and I'm amazed it's holding its shape and didn't revert back into it's default form. You have the Power and have a great day ☕
Even thoni do like the new headsculpt. What you dod make it so much better i do the hot watrer trick when i want. To re mold hands or make a fist out of a gripping hand didint accour to me that could work with heads. Thank you so much
