How can I get my fissure to stop bleeding with bowel movements? I eat relatively healthy, drink a lot of water, and am taking the max dose of colace. Some days the colace still does not help. Miralax did nothing for me. What am I doing wrong?! I have tried hydrocortisone cream and am currently using nifedepine.

Dear Sir, Colace isn't available in my country but what we get is Cremaffin syrup, ingredients of which are: liquid paraffin, milk of magnesia, and sodium picosulfate. Is this similar to colace and would you recommend it?

@Nehal got to be careful with that.If you don't mix it well in plenty of water it will blow up in your intestines and make it very hard to go. This happened to me. Very painful. I suggest using a little miralax every other day or every day.i only take one quarter teaspoon.it softens very well .

Hello doc, I'm following ur advice on treatment for anal fissures, and eating a tablet of a stool softener once a day. I have diarrhea now due to the stool softener, but it's okay, because the pain for the fissure has decreased. Are there any long term side effects for taking a stool softener for weeks or months on end? For how long am i allowed to take over-the-counter stool softeners? What symptoms can occur that tell me i should stop taking them? As i said, they relieve the pain as the fissure heals, but how long is too long before these stool softeners can have a long terms fatal effect, if any? Maybe you can make a seperate video on over-the-counter supplements and the pros and cons for stool softeners/laxatives? Thank you.
@yourfriendlyproctologist
@yourfriendlyproctologist 2 года назад
The stool softener I recommend is colace (docusate). Make sure it is 100% colace and NOT mixed with something like Senna. Colace is safe to take for the rest of your life, but Senna is NOT. Your question is on the list for a future video! stay tuned!

Here’s my personal method for fissure recovery: I made sure to pass stool once every two days (because if you go everyday you’ll not give it time to heal.) On my “non bowel day”: no fiber, did water fast, eat only fruits and liquid foods to break the fast, and take one pill of stool softener (example is Colace) On my “bowel day”: Eat fiber food and take 1/2 pills of stool softener. Eat Apple. Do cardio to aid digestion of food you eat. Every day, I also applied a fissure healing cream (research and buy one.) Don’t directly touch the sore while applying else it will get irritated.) I hope this comment is able to help at least one person going through this terrible ordeal.

@pnwwander3292

I had a terrible anal fissure that caused excruciating pain and I couldn't function. I started taking a stool softener and stopped eating so as to try not having a bowel movement for a day or two while using OTC lidocaine cream and taking sitz baths to reduce inflammation. Once I got the inflammation to reduce my pain went down to a level where I could function. Once the inflammation reduced, I started using the anal fissure oil from Healing Natural Oils. I would apply topically to the outside and put a couple drops on a Hemorrhoid suppository before inserting it. Within a few hours I had no pain. I alternated between the lidocaine cream 2x/day and the fissure healing oil 2x/day. I didn't eat solid food for 5 days and used *regular colace stool softener once a day. I took a sitz bath after every bowel movement. I'm pain free now, but am still using the healing oil every day and keeping my stool soft to try to continue the healing process. Not sure this will work for everyone, this is just what helped me. I went from not sleeping for 2 days due to excruciating pain to getting a good night's sleep after doing what I described above. This is a pain I wish no one to experience. *Note: I tried using the Colace 2 in 1 stool softener and laxative and I feel like it made things worse for me because it caused my bowls to empty and was coming out like diarrhea and causing major skin irritation, which made the pain and inflammation worse. I switched to just the regular strength stool softener and I didn't experience irritating stools. That's just how I experienced it, not sure if it's the same for everyone.
