I get pain with lifting sumo, but no pain with conventional.

Its likely you're in a less than optimal position then. Often times pain is a result of less than adequate technique.

Calgary Barbell You might be right. Every time I widen my legs and spread my feet to get close to the bar in sumo stance (even with no weight on the bar), there's pain in my left upper quadricep. I think it might be an injury from squating with my feet too wide once. I also train a lot for half-marathons, so i think that compacted the problem. As soon as I started conventional DL's tho, the pain disappeared, so I've been sticking with that ever since.

Could you make a video about hip pain when Sumo deadlifting. I get a sharp pain right above where my thigh ends when I have completed a rep, it generally goes away quickly but its always there after each rep. I don't know how common it is, but I have seen a couple of people complaining about similiar issues.

I can't really make a video about that tbh. If I did - it would at best be a shot in the dark. I'm not a chiro, physio, or am I trained in the specifics of injury diagnosis and rehabilitation. In my experience, the best way to help with pains and injuries is to improve technique. There is likely some sort of flaw in your movement that is leading to the pain.

Is there a specific reason you use pound plates sometimes and kilo plates other times or is it just bc that's what is available to you at the time?

Don't go overboard with the volume at first. Ease into it. Work on your mobility. Start out with a less wide sumo stance and over weeks and months widen it. Chris Duffin has a video on wide stance groin health you can check out as well -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e8JaC9SVQZs.html (maybe the groin isn't the issue for you at all jus throwing it out there) Love these videos, and all your other videos! Sumo trains all of the micro muscles in and around the hips, it hurt for a while cuz they're just not used to being worked so much if you pull conventional To start with I'd recommend sumo once a week and Stiffleg deadlift the other day - sumo as your main pull, heavy volume on sumo twice a week is not the best (depends on you though) Stiffleg teaches proper bracing and shoulder retraction when pulling I've added a solid 15kg to my sumo and Stiffleg in 16 weeks by alternating between the 2 - day 1 sumo, day 2 Stiffleg

How do you tell the difference between your hips being too inflexible to achieve the optimal stance in the deadlift vs. being physically unable to due to your hip structure?

If you stretch and it improves, I'd say you're inflexible. If you stretch and there's no improvement, then maybe you need to look at a more narrow stance.

Not often. The odd block I'll throw some stuff in, but honestly, just getting stronger and moving more weight on bench and bench accessories I feel like has put some size on my arms recently.
