Dude! Sorry to hear about the setback, believe me when I say, I know this pain so well and it sucks assssss. Hope you're able to get it all back in action as painlessly as possibly my man! :) You gotta keep those beautiful visuals going!!
Mey man, I appreciate the effort. Always a bummer when setbacks happen, but I love it when people are doing this stuff for themselves. I see a lot of opinions in your comments, just wanted to say I love just seeing any of your work that you publish. Thanks for all you do as an aircraft mechanic too btw, I've had the privilege to work in an AH-64D unit this last year and you mechanics just grind like nobody's business.
I AGREE - NOTHING "hits" like Red Storm Rising. By far, best WW-III type novel ever written. And it'll always be hard to beat the audiobook's narration. I think you WILL like Red Phoenix very much.
Well, buddy.... It's cool to hear your own voice for a change. And I'd like to tell you that your own therapeutic videos are a big help to ge the rest of us to decompress! I'm sorry to hear that so much of your work got lost... Updates are a bitch sometimes. I really hope, for your sake and ours too, that you get a lot of it back. Have a nice Christmas and a very good 2024!
If you haven’t put it on your list yet, I would check out The Sixth Battle by Barrett Tillman. Set off the coast of South Africa, it puts a US Carrier group in a 1v3 aganist 3 Soviet carriers in the early 90s. Great book (and perfect to re-create in DCS!)
FWIW, I think the Ryanverse kind of jumped the shark around _Debt of Honor_ . Ryan becoming President was a step too far for me. And you have no chance of being allowed to depict a civilian widebody slamming into The Capitol. The problem you have with Clancy source material is that there's not a lot of air combat that happens again until you get to _The Bear and The Dragon_ (which is a pretty ludicrous scenario even when it was written, let alone these days). You might be able to do _The Hunt for Red October_ using one of the sub sims like _Cold Waters_ , but that's more of less it.
Red Phoenix is a great read. A bit lacking in the realism department from Lieutenant Little’s perspective, but still a well spun story with a credible plot you could easily see play out in the real world.
Oh man, I hate to hear about your challenges. Sounds like you've had a good year nonetheless. You must continue the Red Storm Rising series. I love that!
Yeah, Team Yankee was focused on armour, a very low-level view of a potential WW3. Not much strategic viewpoint, which makes it entirely different to most technothrillers.
Maybe try checking out Larry Bond's Cauldron? It's prob been close to 25-30 years since I last read it, but I want to say it involves a war between the US and the EU, I just don't remember what caused it.
From what I remember, I thought _Cauldron_ was the weakest of the three (Vortex and Red Phoenix). Might be time to dig them out of the pile and have a re-read.
