@nica93

You can always make a dress tie ribbon in the same red fabric also to tie in all that red cohesively. 😊❤ cute nursing dress though!!
@annb6089
@annb6089 Месяц назад
When you were trying to add more red to the top I was hoping you’d add a thick red belt instead of the tiny waist tie. I think that would look stunning. Still a huge improvement over the original skirt.
@Loepsie
@Loepsie Месяц назад
I agree that would look nice, but the tie is what's currently making it work as a nursing dress. I wonder if it's possible to have both... 🤔

Or maybe you could wear an independent red belt on top and tuck the bound tie in? Or a belt that consists of a strap with the length of the waist measurement attached to the front wrap piece from the centre front to where the tie is now, continues around the back and ends in a hook (either hook and eye or like a bikini top closure, an asymmetrical hook) concealed behind a bow, brooch or flower ornament.

It might not have been the tension but that the embroidery was too "heavy" for the very thin viscose fabric alone and a stabilizer might have helped with that. I suggest trying tissue paper (like the kind you use for gift bags) under the fabric which might give it enough support to not get caught up as much in the machine's face plate which can mess up the the stitching. You can then just tear away the remaining tissue paper off of the garment. This is a great technique for very light weight fabrics.
@olgahein4384
@olgahein4384 Месяц назад
Exactly what i thought. If it's a see-through viscose, it must be very slippery and finicky. Stabilizing paper underneath, just like machine embroidery, should help. There's also stabilizinger fabric for exactly that purpose which dissolves in water. Put it underneath, sew/stitch, cut away excess and hold into a bowl of water for a while (or throw in the washing machine) and it's gone.
@xfairfaeriex
@xfairfaeriex Месяц назад
@@olgahein4384 I agree that stabilizer specifically made for embroidery would likely work best but I wanted to offer a low-cost and readily available alternative.

Great result! I love the pop of red. Imagine if you added a small strip of red at the bottom. Then you could have the scallop edge. Perhaps the size of the sleeve edge would look nice.

Maybe, but I think the red fabric is firmer, and it would stick out a lot. The thinner strip of original fabric now has nice movement when she was gesturing.

Definitely agree with the additional red - maybe you could sew a satin ribbon on the waistband rather than actually replacing the ties? And either a red necklace or long earrings woulf be a nice final touch 👍

I love the fast fashion flip concept !^^ The before/After is of night / day proportion : So. much. Better. And elevated and put together. I'm as surprised as happy for you that somehow, the cut part of the skirt was long enough to circle the entire length of the red part, despite the gathers.

I make so many tiered dresses and skirts and I like to finish my seams with bias tape. It takes awhile but the finished look is so nice.

The dress turned out so nice! You can use a wash-away stabilizer for the scalloped edge because the dress fabric is thin. Before cutting the excess fabric off the scallop edge, I'd use Fray Block or similar to seal the edge.

Maybe a scalloped lace at the bottom to get the synchronicity with the neckline that you wanted?

I love it! The red on the sleeves really balanced it out. I think adding a 4th layer would have made it too bottom-heavy.
@Looma_Loo
@Looma_Loo Месяц назад
I’ve used the same technique to add a scalloped edge on some items. I’ve found it works the best if you use spray starch or even hairspray along the area of the fabric where the seam is going. If the fabric is lighter/thinner, you could even add some interfacing or some kind of backing to stiffen it up a bit and add some extra sturdiness, then just remove what you don’t need after you have finished trimming the excess.
@aliiannucci3135
@aliiannucci3135 Месяц назад
This was such a fun and cute transformation!! I was wondering if you thought about adding a scalloped ribbon at the hem. I think either red or white would work, but then you could get the cohesive scalloped-ness you were hoping for. It looks great as is though!!

Cute fix for the dress. For the problem of the embroidered scallops you need to use a rip away stabilizer on the back. It makes the fabric stay all the same tension going under the presser foot. When you done you can tear it away. Or they have some that come off with water.

Adding a small simple red ruffled edge to the sleeves might be cute! Having the red only on the bottom might be making it a little bottom heavy? I really like how you had it on the sleeves
@RoundMtnDryGoods
@RoundMtnDryGoods Месяц назад
When you try to do the scallop on the hem, you need a stabilizer under it and possibly a water soluble stabilizer on top. That would firm up the stitches and work much better.
@violetstarla

I love the dresses makeover and how you repurposed a fast fashion cute strawberry dress into something more wearable to you, but feel the bottom tier should have mimicked the length of the red to make it flow a little longer. Something doesn't feel symmetrical yet I love the design and craftsmanship. Its so 80s strawberry shortcake and Shelley Duvall as Olive Oil.

I really love it! You took this dress to the next level 🙌🤩 so glad you added the red to the sleeves! What I immediately thought, to make it more cohesive, have you thought about embroidering the red in the dress with some green leaves like the ones in the strawberry dress? 🤔
@lindouglass4115
@lindouglass4115 Месяц назад
I want to love it, but there is something about the red that throws it off for me. I think it would have looked so cute if the red was green instead. I'm picturing it with the green from the dress. Im glad you like it since you are the one wearing it. Just thought I would give my 2 cents. ❤ ... the red is just too bold for me. It's still cute, though. ❤

I’m glad you added the red to the sleeves. It’s a shame you didn’t have more of that red. Personally, I think a 2nd red panel at the bottom would have still looked fine. But, overall, what a great job and enjoyable video.

I fixed a dress that was too short for me in the exact same way last summer! It was pretty easy, and turned out really cute. As a nursing mother myself, I'm really looking forward to seeing what nursing-friendly fashion you will sew. It's really hard to find nursing-compatible clothing that also fits my style!

Could have also added some of the red to the ties in some way. Replaced them, put tassles on them, etc. But I, too, agree with the red on the sleeves! I was thinking it before you got to talking about it! 🎉

I know im late to the comment section but I believe this may be an option in the future. There's a way to make scallops or shells on a hem edge using the invisibe hem stitch. That stitch that looks like __/\____/\__ on the machine. The points go past the edge and that is what pulls the fabric in. It's worth a try to see if you might like it.

You did a beautiful job! 😊 Usually when combining a white piece of fabric and a darker one you need to make sure the darker fabric doesn’t “bleed” onto the white one when washing. Washing with cold water, manually and using very little amount of detergent is probably going to do the job. But if the fabric is synthetic, there are many chances it won’t “bleed”. :) Another thing I noticed is you might want to combine fabrics that are pretty much the same type; thickness and that drape similarly in order to achieve a better result. But this is a matter of personal preference …

Not related to this video AT ALL but I realized something, at first when you mentioned you’d keep your child out from the lenses I was like “oh wow but ok that’s her choice” And then I caught myself watching another RU-vidr that recently also gave birth and the channel changed so much, then I realized is not the content I want to watch :/ Wich is ok! Is not their fault or anything:) Basically I wanna say that I appreciate so much the fact that your content is still the same even throughout your pregnancy and post partum Wich sounds like A LOT of work!
