That motor needs Rings. Guides wont cause excess crank case pressure unless its on a boosted application . Rebuild that iron duke Those are good motors. I agree with your service accumen . Give the customer the most Honest value you can give them. Instead of electrical tape to secure the wire, you should give self fusion silicone tape a try. After it is stuck to itself for a couple of minutes, it will never let go. It doesn't have any adhesive to degrade over time like regular electrical tape does.

I'm from the UK and I don't agree with your comment. If you think its bad in the UK then its even worse in the states where everything has a price and just as bad if not more so that the UK. In both countries finding a conscientious contractor is the key. There are contractors out there who value their reputation and work to it accordingly but they may not be the cheapest as that additional 20 minute has to be paid for somehow. The key is to question the contractor on what they are going to do before you give them the job.

I’m in Quebec, we have lots of water , my well was made in the mid 1800’S went a bit dry in 2019 yes 175 years ago , it’s 30 feets deep and it’s a 1 inch pipe , I called a friend that has mini excavator, we find the well then pulled out the pipe and we put a 1 /1/2 stainless steel pipe, 50 feets deep , removed the lead pipe from the well to the house , yes made of lead , not too healthy , filled the excavation with very compacted sand , then using my pump I pumped a bit over 5000 liters to create the new well , the well is about 50 feet from the house , after pumping about 2000 liters into the well it was visible the earth was lifting of about 6 inches on. 60 feets diameter, by the time I went to a friend refilling my 1000 liters taut the earth has lowered , it was slowly raised as I was pumping water into the well , after the fifth taut I let it set for 2 days , then pumping water from the well , it was a bit sandy and Claudy at first but after about 30 minutes of pumping the water was very clear and no debris.

I agree 100,.%. I do automotive diagnostic. I check the whole system and discuss this with the customer before I start that similar to a flat tire it may have more than one issue causing it to go flat ie a nail...bad valve stem...rim leak due to corrosion ect. We don't know what we don't know. I keep them informed as I go sometimes I give a high worst case estimate to ensure a proper repair...only billing them for what was needed .They appreciate when im under estimate.Integrity matters. In the videos I've seen you always have Integrity. Keep to your values. God bless.

I had that mindset instilled in me at an early age and it's good to know other people out there have the same mindset the other important part of that mindset is to pass that knowledge on to others. Most people take more pride in their "bullshit" words and using the blame game than just getting the job done right and that applies to all jobs not just your field of expertise.

Had the vintage 1992 heat pump stop working in a rental, expected this to be the end of it. Called the local A/C guy, he got there before I did, found a blown fuse, and since nothing else was wrong he cleaned out the air handler and topped off the refrigerant. Now I keep their number in my phone, not going to call anybody else. He could have easily told me it was just old and dead and charge 5 grand for a new system, I wouldn't have known the difference, but he only charged $115.

Good business acumen, since you are there...... There is an A/C guy on ytube, his motto is look at the big picture, fix it right, fix it once. The engine is pushing blowby, if it has gotten hot it has taken the tension out of the rings and they are no longer sealing, hence crankcase pressure pushing oil out at the highest spot on the engine. A side effect of worn rings is oil in the combustion chamber/process causes detonation, IE preignition under load, and that will eventually beat the bearings out of it. A painted radiator may look good at one time, but the paint inhibits the heat transfer. If the cooling/airflow is marginal to start with, like no fan shroud, excess paint, worn out impeller on the water pump it is not going to remove the heat and the engine will consistently run hot under load.

Honestly you should keep that iron duke and rebuild it. Parts for them are easily available since the post office's fleet of LLVs use them. A V8 would just be overkill, take up more room, and require a much larger cooling system. Where the cast iron 4 cylinder that is the Iron duke both head and block are much more tolerant of being ran hot.

I love your videos. I am a new subscriber to your channel and have been watching all your videos. I am from northern Wisconsin, so I understand cold. I am in the process of changing out my pump as it up and died due to a lightning strike. I have a fifty-year-old well that was not grounded back in that day. I had to have a well driller come out to pull my old pump as it had a rusted pitless that would not budge. They hooked up to it and it snapped off the pitless in the process. Now that I have the old pump out, I will be replacing the pitless and installing 1 inch poly pipe with a 1/2 hp 240-volt 2 wire pump. I enjoy your teaching and am looking forward to replacing my system from start to finish. Thank you again for all that you do. Your awesome.

Nice work mate. I agree with your ethos, the customer wants the well to work but it’s not just the well. It’s the full system of well, pump, valves, switches, pipework and filter etc. they all must work together so a top to bottom diagnosis of the system is required to determine the fault. All the best.

I have stayed on "ticket" before and gone off ticket. It generally depends on the customer. I have had customers who want extras but will only pay the bill after arguing about it for six months. On the other hand, when I take my car and lawn tractor to my mechanic, the car mechanic is allowed a $500 overage, pre-auth. Usually, I get a call and say something is up, but if it is minor, they just fix it. On the other hand, my car mechanic does not always charge me to look at my car when it is a few minutes of labor, like taking porcupine quills out of my car. I missed all but the tail. The last time my lawn tractor was at the shop, I told him to add up to 30 minutes to do little things. He made the sheet metal fit much better and addressed some annoying things. I also have folks that I will NEVER go back to.

Heij :) I enjoyed this hole systems overview. And I have same opinions: You´re a good, thorough, big picture worker and yes, the motor needs a rebuild. If You´re really attached to it let it bore out, new pistones, new bearings and seals, get the head dressed up- good again for 30 years. Give Jim´s Automotive Shop (yt channel) a ring, maybe You fix his well, he fix Your motor- all good. They are just as good with engines as You with wells.

You should try a heavier oil like 20W-50 and/or Engine Restore in the silver can. That's the one thing I've seen work agaisnt bad oil consumption and blow by. I've heard of iron dukes powering cars, trucks, boats, and mail delivery vehicles. Hydraulic fracturing rigs is a new one to me. Maybe next someone will put one in an airplane. Did you mention what year the engine is?

So many questions. I came across your channel by accident and now has me wanting to ask questions. I will have to look through the video list but we have a property/cabin in a high mountain park in CO. This property has an older well and a new septic system. When I purchased the place the well hadn't been used in several years. I had to replace the pressure tank and all the plumbing to the tank (tank had a hole in it, new pressure switch, check valve, etc.) Well worked ok but I let someone stay there for a week and didn't show them to shut power to well when they left. Have an outside freeze proof spigot outside and when this person left he left a hose on the spigot and spigot open. Hose sprayer was on the hose so the hose could just build pressure. He left and 2 days later we went to the cabin and the water was running everywhere because the cheap hose ruptured. Looking at my game camera I found that the hose ruptured shortly after they left so well pump was running for 2 full days. After this happened I had to replace the check valve on line to pressure tank because something caused it to fail so it would allow water to flow back toward pump when pump shut off. Ever since this time I have been getting air in my whole system. Not sure if my well is drying up or something else is wrong. I haven't called a company yet to come and check the whole system. Prior to this issue with the burst hose the well was working just fine with no air in the system.

For the motor rebuild, you might want to also oversize the radiator while you are at it since you said it overheated. Or maybe an heat exchanger with the water you pump?
@JoeCdaYT

With watching your videos on the Hydro Fracking that your little 4 cylinder engine does work really hard and it might be a good idea once you pull the trigger to replace it, go with either a Ford 300 6 cylinder or the Chrysler 225 Slant 6 that comes out of an old 60's truck. The slant I have a lot of experience with and they are tough engines and can take a beating. Get a good sized radiator on them and they won't overheat either. You could push them all day and they won't care, as long as you feed it fuel they keep putting out the power.

A good example of an excellent service and no brainer. 20 minutes to do the job properly and prevent the need for a second visit. Unfortunately not contractor thinks that way in the belief that a second visit will generate more profit. Unfortunately for the customer their workload means they wont get back for several weeks so the customer has no alternative but to carry on without the thing working and wait or find a contractor who can

It's completely different when you're just an employee sent out to do a job. Doing anything extra on top of what you were sent out to do is potentially a loss of revenue for the company because they could otherwise charge the customer for it. And it also depends on the customer. Some people call professionals simply because they don't have the tools to DIY it themselves. They know exactly what they want to get done and that's what they expect you to do. So yeah, going the extra mile is generally a nice thing to do, but it depends on circumstances and a lot of variables. If you work for yourself, the best is to talk to your customer, explain everything and find out what exactly they want, and if you're working for a company, the best is to follow the company policy.

I found the pressure tank was full of water , the pressure valve was blocked , springs in the valve were loose and galvanized pipe in the well . Told the woman this is what I found and they need to be addressed . Depth of well I found was 130’ . The well house is an underground block of concrete and full of leaves and was wet . Told he to contact a well company to do the repairs . She cussed me out because of the price the well co charged her .
