My issue ("add water" light always on even when full of water) turned out to be gunk that had plugged up the rubber water feed line that goes from the pump to the outlet where the tray gets filled up. One I took that apart and cleaned out the black goop it was as good as new. (I'm on well water and since there is no chlorine gunk can build up after a while).
WHAT NO HOUR LONG JIBBER JABBER BEFORE GETTING ON WITH IT. NO HISTORY ON THE ICE MAKER, NO GOING THRU EVERY WIRE AND PART INSIDE EXPLAINING WHAT EACH DOES. GOOD GOING. THANK YOU.
The Ice Full light is also caused by the IR sensor. You can bypass the sensor by hotwiring the circuit. See ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h-9yLB9yZX0.html. I did it by stripping a micro USB wire, creating a wire hook, and inserting that into the plug socket to connect the top 2 pins. Inserted the plug again and it works.
Mine just stopped making ice, not weird lights or sounds. it goes through the process normally, fan works and it feels cool when opening lid. I see water on the tray but after a few minutes, tray just drops as if it had ice and starts over.. idk where to start! Thank you
I received three 14kg per hour ice maker machines from someone who was going to throw them away. They all had the ice full and no water indicators flashing. I also found one microswitch in each machine with no continuity or reading like a 100 ohm when pushed. I sprayed Electrolube contact cleaner in each one. Now they all read 0 ohm when pushed. After fixing the switch, all the machines work and produce ice. Looks like a very common problem. I wonder why?
Why? Cheap parts. The switches may or mat not continue to operate, that's why most people replace them because they are cheap. These switches only have about 2.5 volts on them and any resistance could cause a malfunction. I know you are trying to get out as cheaply as possable, but I wouldnt want to be spraying contact cleaner where it could contaminate the area where the ice is made, and spraying where these switches are located is sure to get in the ice compartment.
I have the same size Igloo I bought from Wal-Mart about 10 yrs ago. It started doing the same after about a year and a half later. The very same switch you replaced on yours was bad. The activation arm Broke Off on mine however. I replaced it just as you did and am still using it today.
You did not need your meter... Those switches either click or they don't.. If you were pressing pressing the switch I bet it did not make a clicking noise..
THANK YOU for posting this!! I'm handy enough to fix a switch, but not handy enough to figure out what the cause was! Mine had the exact same problem. I ordered a soldering iron kit and replacement switches and now my ice maker is working perfectly again - for a lot less than the price of a new machine!
What a fantastic video! I was just about to toss my machine but seeing how I have the same problem symptoms anyway, I will verify the switches and fix this machine. I love my ice machine! Thank you so much for doing this!
Remove the back cover and you will see the little tube that comes from the pump to the ice reservoir, it could be leaking, or partially clogged up, you can pull the tube out at the top from the little rubber port and blow back through it, you could probably flush it with warm water. Also look at the tube for possable mold build up in the tube that could limit the amount of water. If your water system chlorinates your water that probably wont be the issue.
My machine was doing the same thing. I checked the switches and they both were working. That is when I noticed that the rotating lever only went up halfway. I pushed the lever all the way up and let it wind back down. Them I power cycled it and it has been working ever since.
My ice maker doesn't make ice anymore it feels the water let's it out after a while and it doesn't make ice... Then once in a while it makes ice then does it again....
Just wanted to say "Thanks." My Think Gizmo Portable Ice Maker seemingly had died. I opened it up, checked it all out, and couldn't find the problem. After watching your video, I checked the switches and discovered the little metal bar on one of them had broken off. Spent a few bucks at Amazon to get new switches and it's all back up and running. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
Hello everyone HELP!!! where can I find the microswitch 6a 250V T125 FOR MY IGLOO, I called the co. they referred me to the manufacture who No Longer services Igloo products.
all I find in 3 pins switches and in the video it looks like he had 3 pins and then there was 2 pins he must have cut one off and did tell us, He could have mentioned that to us.
Help please. My ice maker problem is the water is not getting cool enough and for that reason the water don't turn to ice. Everything is going working well but not the water turning to ice. Thanks for any help
Thank you for putting up this video and providing the know-how to fix this problem (micro switch replacement). You have saved me from buying another icemaker at $99.00. I had to get 10 of the switches from Amazon to use 1, but hell it was a lot cheaper fix than a new icemaker. I am a neanderthal when it comes to computer stuff, but I can still look up stuff that I need help with. I am just glad there are good people like yourself that take the time out of their lives to put this kind of information out there. These fixes really help on a fixed income (no pun intended, just reality). PS: Just for shits and giggles, I waited until the ice tub was full before I did this reply. Just to be sure you know. Thanks again.
First check the water drain where the machine sucks the water. It has a screen underneath the filtration cap. Even a little debris will restrict water flow.
new link www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GDD9PJL/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 also i fixed my by actuating the stuck switch a few dozen times with my finger. started working and has not quit for a few days now
So a follow up on the micro switch replacement. It functioned as it should for about another year and then the icemaker quit. Both switches were still functioning properly as best I could tell, but it stopped making ice. A thorough cleaning and still nothing. So we purchased another one. This lasted a year and the same position switch failed. I don't remember where I put the remaining 9 switches I got off of Amazon from 2 years ago, so the snipe hunt has commenced. Argggh! (EDIT) FOUND THE BAG of SWITCHES! Swapped out the switch and things seem to be functioning properly again. Thanks again for the "fix it yourself" information and video. I am diabetic and a cold mug of water is great all year long.
I have a similar unit,, but I have a different issue. The paddle/scoop that lifts the ice out has somehow (Im at a complete loss how) got passed the 2 tabs and now it doesnt move right (when its supposed to lift out the cubes it falls down because there is nothing on the 2 tabs on the left/right to hold it (its not broken it slipped past the retainers).. Any ideas on how to get it back in place? I have been fighting with it and dont want to break it..
I have the IGLOO ICE206-TG portable ice maker and my ice-forming tray will not stay in place. How do I locate the part to replace the ice-forming tray? Thank you for the tutorial on the switch replacement. I ordered the switch and it works perfectly until the ice forming tray stopped working.
I have one of these same model type mine is a tramontina .. & it’s been acting up the shovel bucket thing won’t come Down & go back to fill with water when u turn it on .. it’ll come down some & go back you can hear it trying to cycle but doesn’t..
I have the same ice maker but it's labeled Magic Chef. We made the mistake of not draining the water after use but still used it every day. After We cleaned it the rotating reservoir only fills 1/4 of the way. Is it possible to knock the filling stream of water out of alignment while cleaning? I'm looking for the exploded parts drawing if you have a source. At $89 it's has paid for it's self already so i'm not sure it's worth the trouble.
What should I check into if the maker is overproducing ice? The model that I am looking at has a probe just level with the top of the ice bucket. It is located on the back wall of the bucket compartment, before the area that the maker and shovel are located. I believe that it is probably a sensor that is malfunctioning, or dirty. I can’t find any vids pertaining to that specific problem. Do you have any suggestions?
Very helpful tutorial! Thank you. I tested the two micro switches on my ice maker with a multimeter, and they work fine. The water pump works fine, but water doesn't go into the ice forming tray, into the water reservoir instead. No leaking. The problem with my ice maker is that there is no water in tray; hence, there is no ice. Having opened the lid, I realized the ice forming tray doesn't catch water from the intake valve. How do I fix it! Appreciate all your helps.
I literally found one just like this in a dumpster last night, not a scratch on it. Only thing is it's missing the ice basket. No biggie. But when I plugged it in etc... it's doing this exact same thing except sometimes it will cycle normally and produce ice as it's supposed to but then it will mess up and do this same thing in video above. Going to take apart later and try this. Hopefully it's the same issue
I have one i had to replace that switch on and worked for the last year now i had to take it apart clean the fins they were plugged up a bit stopped letting air through it got it cleaned out now it's only making little ice caps the tray is not filling all the way maybe the pump is weak not sure yet.
That is the exact same issue that I found with mine. That ice maker is sold under a great number of names, mine is "magic chef" but is exactly like yours. The led that I got was the add water LED, solid on. Oh I bought mine at Lowes, for 68 dollars one day they brought a pallet load out and put them on sale. Where did you get the replacment switch? I ordered 6 from Amazon for 6.89 . But I havent received them yet. I verified that it would operate by unsoldering the lower wire, and operating it manually for 5 ice making cycles to verify full operation. Great catch!
super, i had the same problem, the real issue is water in the switch. Desoldering it, I heard the water evaporating. I soldered all the terminals and the switch worked again.
If the ice full lite is on solid...troubleshoot the photo cells. If the ice full light blinks it is most likely one of the switches or tray jamming or motor. The computer chip uses the ice full fault line to stop the ice maker and makes the light blink when the switches dont operate corectly.
This is great. I had to replace same switch but forgot to write down what color wire goes where. Please let me know. 2 Blue and 1 Purple. Do the two blue go together (one is from machine other is from top switch. Purple is from machine not other switch. What is the order PLEASE Help. Thank you in advance.
Alternatively, once the error light comes on, hold the select button down for longer then 10 seconds and it should start making ice. Red light will stay on but it works. Just won't know when to stop so make sure you empty it before it freezes over.
my ice maker is having a different problem but i started watching this anyway to figure out how to open it, instead you cut that part out. Thanks for nothing!
Is the compressor running at all? There are videos on how to check compressors. The compressors in those videos will be on full size refrigerators, but the info should apply to these little ice makers.
