Certainly can't! Grieves me to see a precision instrument in that state though. Many thanks for watching!

That was a great find for £1 Ben, well worth a bit of tinkering time - really must stock up on brass brushes - I've got one somewhere!!!!! I got another blow lamp yesterday - didn't need another one, because the last one I got is exactly what I needed, but this latest one is a massive WW2 one!!!

Yes, it was well worth the tinkering time. They are not difficult to work on. On the issue of blowlamps, fantastic! You can never have a big enough one! (Or a small enough one). I have an even bigger one than see in my videos as well. Many thanks for watching!

Can such channel locks be used in a similar way you did with the screw when the spindle is seized but grabbing the spindle through some paper?
@BensWorkshop
@BensWorkshop 3 дня назад
Do you mean to grab the thread? If so, quite a bit of paper or some scrap leather, but yes. With stuck threads it can be better to work back and forth and with plenty of oil. Hope that helps. Many thanks for watching, please like, share and if you like the channel, subscribe!

@@BensWorkshop Yeah the part of the screw that's where the tip is, i think that there's a small amount of rust on the spindle and area where the lock nut is located, i tried to move the thimble with my hand but it only was slipping on the screw

Be careful, work it back and forth, put lots on 3 in 1 on. If you have some scrap soft leather use that otherwise lots of paper. Good luck. Also don't squeeze too hard.

That was a bargain for a pound. Check your feeler gauges now 😂😎
@BensWorkshop
@BensWorkshop 2 года назад
Cheers, certainly was a bargain, but it goes from 1 to 2 inches so not a lot of use for feeler gauges! I do have 1/10,000" 0 to 1 inch micrometers which will read a feeler gauge to 1/10,000ths of an inch though. Many thanks for watching!

Working as a physics technician in a local school, I had to repair and recalibrate abused mikes every day! Boy, did I get sick of micrometers...

I can believe it! If cared for they work well, and need little adjustment.... If not, I dread to think! Many thanks for watching!

LOL Ben you best go buy a lottery ticket for how lucky you were with that breaking loose. Very nice job. Very heartbreaking seeing nice instrument treated so unfairly.

It is heartbreaking seeing such fine tools so abused, one of the reasons why I bought it. Works correctly now though. Many thanks for watching!

What oil should I buy if i want to do the same? Would WD-40 clean out the rust just as well?
@BensWorkshop
@BensWorkshop Год назад
I use 3 in 1 oil for that sort of job. Water Dispersant 40 is good for dispersing water, and with a brass brush might well work but 3 in 1 oil will also work and lubricate as well. Many thanks for watching, please like, share and if you like the channel, subscribe!
