Cities Skylines Industries:
In one of the most in-depth expansions in Cities: Skylines history, Industry becomes a larger and more meaningful part of the game with this expansion. Players can customize their industrial areas with supply chains for the four different resource types and unique factories. Well managed industry areas will level up and become more efficient. Aside from production chains, there is a new city service for handling mail and the cargo airport eases import and export of factory goods. There are FIVE new maps, new policies, new city services, new buildings (including resource extractors, manufacturers, warehouses and unique factories) and more.

Follow your products from harvesting to processing, storage and production, then transport them to commercial zones or export to other cities.

Industry Areas are divided into four types based on the natural resource they are processing: Farming, Forest, Ore and Oil. I think you made a little mistake there in 17:27 because anybody who is coming in on the left highway junction of the two that lead into the industrial area, will have to follow your lane guidance, be guided around that block and leave the industrial area at the next high way junction. I think there are no extra lane-changing-spots in between. So in the end anybody who wants to get into the industrial area will have to use the right junction of use the recycling center area to cut through to the industrial area.

Hey, Biffa, what i saw on 17:37. You have 2 lanes from down-left to 6-l highway. After little road-segment same 2 lane MUST go to the down-right 2 lanes on road around Cargo Terminal. People from city highway CAN"T go to Cargo, they must make a big roundabout around all Industry sector. This is a really issue. This is happened sometimes in another your videos, so you should check reachability if you do "lane mathematics" with restrictions to move somewhere else. Maybe just split road on smaller segments?

This has been the best half an hour i have spent on RU-vid for a looong time. Never knew about this game, though i played the original Sim City in the 80s on Amiga, so i understood the concept. Now, i can't decide what i presses me most. The depth and thought underlying this game, or your skills with it. This should be mandatory to play and graduate in, for city planners and infrastructural planners. :-)

It still blows my mind that adding less lanes helps more! I’m on a spree of learning lane mathematics and traffic logic in order to fix my cities, but it’s hard work lol

For the industrial zone the lane management isn't that good as you think ;) Because of the intersections are too close to each other, you cannot switch lanes to enter the industrial zone, so you have to move out again immediately.

Indeed, people comming in go through the cargo hub, straight into the next roundabout across the highway. People that are already in the industrial zone have to go around for ever without any escape!

Yup... which is exactly why all that traffic went through the recycle district, those other two intersections are only good for leaving the industrial area, and going to the train terminal now. It should be set up so that the right-most lane must go into the train terminal, and the left can either turn or go straight, then make the 4 lane road a 5 lane road. Fixed.

My general response to traffic issues is "huh, must not have enough pedestrian paths". That or, "huh, guess I'm adding a highway specifically for trucks."

@@m8sonmiller, I tend to make my cities highly walkable because it keeps people off the streets. At one point, I made a city where the highways were all followed with an elevated pedestrian path. The path had ramps down every so many streets. You could walk throughout the whole city without ever stopping for traffic. The pedestrian traffic was immense because so many people chose to walk instead of drive. I honestly think the CIMs' priorities are set up to prefer walking over driving just to make sure they choose to walk sometimes (that is, to counter the ease of driving vs. time spent at road crossings).

Question, Mr. Biffa: do more traffic rules ("lane mathematics") a) lower the cpu workload because there's less traffic to compute as everything gets to their target quicker, or b) higher the cpu load because it's harder to plot each route due to the restrictions set?

Build a double trumpet... Those also work nice in TheoTown... I use them for 4 way INTERCHANGES and use normal trumpets for 3 way ones...

Another thing you can do with roundabouts: If you have the right line always leave the roundabout, you can have the right lane on the streets entering the roundabout just allow to connect to the right line in the roundabout without stopping

If I had stupid amounts of time, (and I mean stupid amounts) I would create my actual city in this game and watch the mayhem. They laid it all out so horribly. Hi biffa i have a trick for you! If you have TM open and select the signs (give way and stuff) you can hold L Shift and click on a road. It Will do all give way stuff you are doing from one junction to another (on the road you click on) saves a lot of clicking and sipping tea!

I fix my traffic by giving free public transportation, and also a huuuge transport system that allows to travel around every single place by using it. Thanks to that, my traffic it's always over 90%

There's one little flaw in this formula that I see that they're not taking into account. In Oregon, when you're on the freeway and there is an offramp coming up people start to slow down whether they're going to take the offramp or not. (I think it scares them) This is a very common problem we one of our freeways (beltline) coming off of Delta where you have two OnRamp's going to the river bridge and then an offramp after the bridge where people drop down from 55 miles an hour to almost stopped. Kind of wish that our city planners would use a game/simulator like this because their solution was metering lights onto the on-ramps.

You kinda forgot the 7 oval roundabouts on the Highway connections who are, in my opinion, a very good idea because roundabouts on the highway exits almost never block if you build them right. (And if no backup traffic is blocking them of course.) EDIT: Just asking out of curiosity: When a street is red for much traffic, but the vehicles are normally driving, thats still good isnt it?

You should fix Falun and Mora in Sweden (IRL). These cities are a nightmare to drive in, traffic is always stuck. But this isn't anything I wanna watch and I dont know why YT would ever recommend anything so boring.

i love motorway road junction diagrams on road maps ! I used to waste many a4 notepads designing city roads as a 8yr old through to my teenage years ! Is there a more simpler road traffic simulator junction game about to play anyehere ? i remember my brother had to play one for maths homework the type im after playing in his UK secondary school , but i have no idea what it actually was ?

Looking at the highway entrances and exits, they are not in good locations. You see cars coming onto the highway competing against cars that are exiting. Even the roundabout in the thumbnail, I would have a road going over the roundabout so that cars don't have drive thru it if they just want to get to the otherside.

They should implement this game logic to my town i live in. I understand in real life its not as easy to move, destroy and all that but my god if anyone has ever driven through Batavia, NY in the USA, you know that it is said to be worse than driving though run hour in New York City at rush hour

They use this kind of programs to actually design roads. Very nice. In theory.. This stuff is often full of mistakes. Better use your own head. Every donkey understands its not logic to merge the traffic from 4 to 3 lanes to so split again in 2+2 lanes.

I think the problem is vehicles don't take into account traffic, only their route, so cars just take the same route even if there is another available farther away.

My recipe for good traffic is to not segment residential, business, and factory district. So people don't have to travel long distance which in turn less traffic.

You're getting confused. I am fixing a broken city that wasn't built that well, hence it got traffic. I choose to use a mod to make it easier and imho, more fun for me and the viewers. I do have videos where I fix traffic without mods. It is possible :-)

Yep, one of the biggest complaints people have about this game is that people tend to follow the rules too well! In real life people do silly things like that, but in the game, almost never.

Yeah whenever they hit a node they will try to change directly to the lane they want, which can make for some goofy switches. There's actually an option in Traffic Manager (Enable Highway Rules) that limits lane switching in highways to one lane difference per switch.

@@NonsensicalSpudz Exactly. The slower the traffic, the more time they're on the road. The only time slowing traffic is effective is when there is precariously short crossovers and turns with lots of traffic.

I am new to this. Literally never seen nor heard of this game in my life. Can this be used to map models of actual cities or prove helpful in figuring out actual traffic solutions? Traffic is a killer in my town (Newcastle) would love it if my council planners used this. My guess is they don't.

@@stuboy13 The cost of all those ramps and overpasses probably comes close to a billion $ in real life. The cost of all those roundabouts is in the tens of millions, considering all the lanes and exits/entrances. Then multiple metro routes, those will add up. So there's probably a few billion just in the initial cost of all the transit systems, for a city of ~60,000. Not to mention that just constructing all the roads/bridges/etc would have a larger carbon footprint than many countries. Concrete/asphalt construction has a ton of ghg emissions.

@@bbg5000 Not to mention that when you go to make that new entrance to the highway and bulldoze the residential area you suddenly have all these lawsuits :D (which is why you should always bulldoze at night when the people are sleeping.... Though bulldozers are loud, it might wake them up..... Prius bulldozers?)

Michael Archer I paint my bulldozers black, giving them a high level of stealth during nighttime operations. Most of the time people wake up from the noise then just go back to sleep when they fail to spot the bulldozer coming through the new garage door in their living room

Can confirm this game and these videos are contributing reasons to why I am 3/4 years into a Civil Engineering Bachelor with a desire to do Highway Engineering. This game is actually a very good way to visualize traffic throughput and how successful certain designs are (With obviously acknowledging the way that Cars AI Path in this game). I've been able to take the lead on certain parts of projects because of this game helping me visualize the way that traffic likes to flow.

@@soop8765 Awesome mate! I see it already happening: Next homework project you have to design a highwaysystem through some sort of city. You take Cities Skylines, build your project in the game and then send in your savefile to Biffa so he does the fixing for you lawl!
